- Derann Film Services was founded in 1964 by Derek Simmons and his wife Anne and became in the 1970th one of the most important distributors of Super 8 film prints in the UK, and in the mid 1980th the global leader of film prints on Super 8. Ged Jones joined the company in 1975 until its closure in 2011. In this interview he tells us exclusive details about the business of producing prints - on Super 8.

Sehr schöne Erinnerungen kommen da auf. Habe Derek Simmonds persönlich kennengelernt, als ich die Firma DERANN 1996 und 1997 besuchte. Beim ersten Mal hat es sogar mit der BLACKPOOL-Filmbörse zeitlich zusammengepasst. Dort "live" vor Ort zu sein war für mich das Größte, Mr. Simmonds war sehr freundlich und umgänglich, es wurde ein sehr langes Gespräch daraus...

I started film collecting in mid 70's I met Derek in late 70's at film convention in Leeds I became his regular customer he was a great guy, watching this clip gave me the background how Derran Film functioned it's amazing what goes behind the business. Looking forward to see other two episodes👍👍👍

Lang, lang ist es her: 1988 besuchten ich und zwei Filmfreunde aus Bamberg Derann Film in Dudley. Gary Brocklehurst zeigte uns damals die ganze S8 Produktionsstätte und die Filmlager. Auch gab es ein Interview mit Gary, welches in der damaligen Publikation des Lumiere Filmclub veröffentlicht wurde.
Das ist ja interessant! Das war dann noch das A5 Format. Vielleicht kann ich die ganzen alten Hefte mal auf off2 stellen, ein paar Jahrgänge sind ja bereits verfügbar.

Towards the end of Derann Film Services trading life i purchased a complete feature Super 8mm copy of The Curse Of Frankenstein . Unfortunately i had to return it as it had a pinky / purple tint to the colour . Ged informed me it was a problem caused during processing in the bath . Sadly i never did get a replacement and got a full refund instead . I am still looking for a decent copy to this day .

Es ist sehr schade, dass es Derann heute nicht mehr gibt. Die Filmkopien von einst werden heute zu Neupreisen auf dem Gebrauchtmarkt gehandelt. Einfach irre! 😕👎
Waren halt letztlich Kleinauflagen.
Die Untertitel führen sichtlich ein Eigenleben und scheinen sich nicht besonders um den gesprochenen Text zu scheren 😂
