  • Team Member Shawn Nelson has shot more rifles at more Tactical Games matches than anyone we know. He's learned all the lessons (many the hard way) on what the ideal setup is for this type of match. So, if you want to save yourself some trouble and guessing, check out this month's video rundown.

    I'm on my second TTG and going with my usual 12.5 SBA4 pistol with a 1-6x LVPO. I'm just there for the "free" t-shirt. I thought about going suppressed this year but my Sandman S is 1.2lb of unnecessary coolness. I may change my mind and regret it, but I'll still get the t-shirt.

      Ive ran my sandman S on an 11.5 bcm in two tactical games now. Its definitely a trade off especially in the battles with long runs lol.

    Did you try something like a burnproofgear heat/rail wrap/rap? I would rock your 2nd build for in home defense.

    • @shawnsixtwo
      @shawnsixtwo 3 года назад +1

      I had crafted up something using welder's fabric & was able to get a full wrap around the suppressor, even under the handguard with no contact. It worked well in training, stayed in place and reduced mirage quite a bit. It would inevitably work itself off when dealing with getting out of sled straps & there was a time or two of getting muzzle stamped in the calf with the rifle slung while kneeling.
      There are plenty of guys that compete suppressed and seem to have no issues, just ended up not being for me. I do still enjoy this build & will be topping it with a UH1 for around the house. It probably needs a light too while I'm at it.

    Great vid! What the reasoning or technique behind right hand thumb on right side of receiver for some of your shots?

    • @Jerzeyguy
      @Jerzeyguy 3 года назад +1

      It helps with pulling the trigger
      Straight back. Hence lowering your chances on pulling a shot.

    • @shawnsixtwo
      @shawnsixtwo 3 года назад +1

      Jersey Guy hit it - I find that especially when bracing into the sling, keeping my thumb on the right side allows a straighter pull for more precise shots. If I need to manage recoil with faster follow-up shots, I stay out of the sling & keep a traditional hold on the grip.

    What are the average distances of the rifle and pistol targets at the tactical games? Did the 1x10 work well?

    • @actiongunner
      @actiongunner 8 месяцев назад

      Average pistol targets are 3" shapes at 10-12 yards. It's pretty typical to see rifle paper at 50-75yds, but if the host range has the capabilities they'll push you 3-400 yards for a couple stages. 2023 Nationals saw some engagements close to 700 yards. The 1-10 is still highly preferred.

    Why carbine length gas system on the 13.5 and not mid length?

    • @shawnsixtwo
      @shawnsixtwo 2 года назад

      This just came down to having enough clearance on the handguard to place my sling qd mount where I am used to it. The adjustable gas block at mid-length interfered with it.

      Go with a 223 wylde chamber so you've got options. My preference is factory 223 ammo (69gr for these matches). I am a big fan of JP's M-lok hand guards, they are light weight & have a nice textured coating.

    • @shawnsixtwo
      @shawnsixtwo 3 года назад +2

      400 is probably a safe maximum for this year, the amount of long range at an event depends on the host range capabilities.

    Yeah, throw on a lpvo to lighten it up genius 👎

    • @shawnsixtwo
      @shawnsixtwo 3 года назад +8

      Some context was lost in brevity here. The initial intent of rifle 2 was to use the same spitfire, but with lpvo now being allowed in the same division it started making sense to take the magnified route. Short range steel targets have been replaced by smaller paper for scoring so it's nice to be able to see your hits and make corrections. Even with the lpvo, the rifle still comes in lighter than the first.

      You should go the TTG with the gear you have, not the gear you wish you had. No one fails to finish the TTG because of 2.2lb of extra weight. Most people are happy with just finishing after doing their best. Gear weight is irrelevant if you're minimally fit enough.
