The best of Davy Jones (HD)

- I recently re watched the pirates of the Caribbean movies. And I was reminded of the amazing performance of Bill Nighy as Davy Jones.
Always as a child I thought is was the coolest character in the franchise, so I decided to pay a tribute to his great performance by making this high light video.
There are some major spoilers in this video, so if you have not seen the movies is strongly recommend you watch them first.
Of course I do not own any of the rights of the franchise so I don’t wish to make money of this video. It’s just here as a tribute! - Кино

In the scene at 3:20 where Will challenges Davy Jones, the music in the background stops. I just realised that's an Organ playing, and Davy Jones is playing it, it's the Organ in his ship! The music cuts off right before you hear the steps. A masterful piece of storytelling and atmosphere building with music, incredible.
The fact that Will's sword for Norrington is appreciated by almost all the villains in the first three movies is fantastic.

Davy Jones had really good CGI for that period.
He has really good CGI by todays standards.
It has to do with the fact they brought in animators to hand animate his beard.
It's also because the less human CGI is supposed to look the better it will age. That's why a lot of the digital altering in films to play dead actors or to de-age them is already looking bad and outdated, because the mind knows what people are supposed to look like. One of the most poignant and overall, the greatest Disney villain in history.
He's not even a villain really. More of a tragic antihero
@@user-mx4is4fx3c He's explicitly not an antihero, and his background doesn't make him an antihero either. He doesn't display any heroism through Dead Man's Chest or At World's End, he ruthlessly murders characters several times across both films, and he's characterized as having neglected his duty to ferry souls to the afterlife. None of his actions remotely fit the definition of an antihero.
If he was an antihero, he'd be a selfish character, sure, but that selfishness would be displayed as a reluctance to do good. @@damnsonwheredyoufindthis.3830 if he hide the heart on the bottom of the sea, it may get crushed by anchor
If he hid it it the water, he would still be able to feel it, which is kinda the whole point he hid it in the first place.
One of the things that fucks me up about Davy Jones as a villain, is that Calypso never actually betrayed him. Calypso IS the sea; she is the water and reefs, the fish and the deep. She promised to be with him forever, to meet him after 10 years. And yet when he came to meet her, she wasn't there? No, that was the only day he was alone.
She was with him every day aside from that, as the salt in the air and the rain on his face. Every time the Dutchman dived, she was there embracing him. And every time it surfaced, she was the wind greeting him at his back.
There was never a day when Davy Jones did not feel her love; it was only because he, a mortal man, did not understand that that resulted in such a tragedy.
You can see it at the end of the third movie, when the Maelstrom brews and the rain first hits Davy Jones face after Calypso is released. For the first time in centuries he feels her again, and realizes that she was with him, always. But by then, it's far too late for him. He's gone without a heart too long to be saved, and he knows it.
"Life is cruel; why should the afterlife be any different?" Are words spoken by a man who felt more love and kindness than any other sailor on the Seven Seas.
"I can set you free mate"
"My freedom was forfeit long ago"
Epic line.
Davy Jones is quite an interesting villain. As a kid I always thought he was just pure evil but looking back with context I actually feel bad for him. A man who's heart was broken and turned to the dark side. Like POTC's Darth Vader.
i wouldn't say he turned to dark side considering that the whole thing is, you know, set on the pirate era, to me, Davy Jones seems to have pretty good light sides, such as skipping death by serving him for 100 years, it's not a short time but, probably better than dying
he's not really evil he's mostly neutral, strict and just apathetic, kinda makes sense since he's trapped doing this job for all eternity.
He simply an antagonist due to the protags being pirates, and the main wants to cheat death (an affront to his nature being ferryman of souls) and broke his deal with Jones before.
Every time I see pirates of the Caribbean abbreviated I think of passion of the Christ lol

I love the Kraken theme playing in the background when he makes his first appearance representing not just the power he controls but also mirroring the fact that he himself is a looming threat of the sea, just waiting for his moment to strike.
This will always and forever be some of the greatest CGI ever created. Nothing made today looks this good.
This movie was Way ahead of its time. The storytelling and the visuals for the time it came out were straight out crazy. One of my fav movie series of all time
“My freedom was forfeit long ago, wah!!”
😂
Wah
He’s an orc… WAAAAAAAAAGH
Such an incredible job done by Bill Nighy. Not one bad scene with Davy Jones that I can think of. Created one of those rare characters that seems to have their gravitational pull.
Say what you want , Davy is one the best villians ever created. I was super scared of him as a little kid but now I can see how much depth his character had .

"Ya fraid to get wet?"
Nice!
the best antagonist in the history of cinema: perfect design and very well characterized
Guess you never seen Star Wars and never heard of a man name Darth Vader. Vader wasn't a angry man. He was simply a man with a broken heart who lost everyone he ever loved.
@@derrmann1800 i don't like very much Star Wars, but Davy Jones's design is better Darth Vader's one. He has also a great story, very sad
I’d say three best villains are:
Heath ledgers joker
Davy Jones
Darth Vader
In no particular order
@@thesidewalkmaster4925 of course!! Agree! I love joker, but I don't know well Darth Wader
@@donquixotedoflamingo6288 Darth Vader or better yet Anakin Skywalker was born into slavery. He left his mom at a young age only to see her again while she was dying. He's mother died in his arms after being tortured. Then he ends up losing his wife. Davy looks bad ass but he's only mad cuz a female stood him up when in reality she Never did set him up. Since calypso was the sea she was always by his side. Anakin story is far more sad then Davy Jones
Its amazing how well the cgi and effects have held up. They look better than things being made today.
3:18 can we all agree This is the best Davy Jones moment
My favorite line has got to be “Life is Cruel, Why should The Afterlife be any different.”

"I'm a heartless wretch"
*giggles and snorts*
Why do I love this so much 😂
Lol the laugh😂🤣
Amazing, absolutely speechless by his acting capability. I love how Bill puts his whole body into the character, mind blowing.
I like how he pushed that one guard out the way. Basically saying, move out of the way, nerd. Davy Jones is in the house. 😂😂
"I challenge Davy Jones." *Organ music stops playing*
I love how Beckett's right hand man, the guy with the black clothes were always the calm, quiet and scary murderer. And then he just gets completely fucked up by Davy like hes nothing
Mercer?
@@jamesnorrington7411 Yeah
@@-MR.Nobody To be frank I never liked him... He killed Governor Swann and so many others, he was a bit of a jerk too.
@@jamesnorrington7411 Ye ye. I never said I liked him. But the films portrayed him like a calm, cold blooded killer. And then in the end he got fucked by Jones effortlessly.
Mercer's death was probably the most brutal out of the entire franchise, and frankly I think he deserved it.
Bill Nighy is so fucking legendary. If I ever made a movie, it'd be written just for him
I love how even despite having a CGI department, the producers hired an actual tentacle man to play the role of Davy Jones. Just shows how much realism the filmmakers hold themselves too
"Best of Davy Jones"
-Nearly every second where he has the spotlight.
