I have an accurate story of a call at night that scared the shit out of me and my mom so here it goes: I was asleep when I awoke to my mom urgently waking me to notify me that someone had just called to her from our gate which was not visible from our porch due to some trees and the winding of the driveway, anyway when I awoke I instinctively told her to arm herself and I did the same with a glock. Shortly after this I went outside and made sure to check the perimeters, scanning around and looking for said person/thing. After I had gotten done, I went back to the front to fire a warning shot into the ground, a little after this we hear another “hey!” similar to the one my mom had heard before. I then told the voice that they should get the fuck out of there and that we were not going to help them in anyway. I suppose that worked since the perpetrator ended up not doing anything else to us that night. More context to the story- we live in the boonies, about 1 mile from the next neighbor, on a dirt road, and about 10 miles from town. This was chilling only due to the fact that we know that people that are out late on our road are most likely doing something they should not be doing (due to the fact that not many people live on this road). Hope this creeps you out a little bit because it definitely activated my fight or flight when it happened.

In indian culture if here things calling your name and you look around for it, you have basically give it a signal you acknowledge it and things latch on to you. Also most of things are commonly near water. Take it as is, I haven't run into this things in the woods but once in a while when I am home alone I hear my name and ignore it or imagination is faulty.

When I lived in Georgia and was like 7yrs old my best friend and I would hear voices calling our names from the woods. We knew to run. It was usually close to being dark outside also. Very scary!
Not in the Appalachia, but here in the Rockie Mountains, we would go fishing at 11 Mile Lake in Colorado and would sleep on the bank of the lake. We'd stay up at night and night fish but more than a couple times once we would start dozing off I would here something say my name right in my ear and would instantly wake up to nothjng around us and no one else awake. It was always in a womans voice when I heard it.
It only happened to me once, and I recognized one's of my aunts voice. She died that night, even though dozens miles away from where I was living, at the time.
I hear my mom say my name sometimes right when I’m dozing off and that’s when I’m totally safe here in the house. That’s totally normal. And my mom is fine she’s not a ghost lol
@@Bamazon1990This used to happen to me a lot when my mom was living, and it was always kind of comforting to me. After she passed it stopped happening! But I don't think I'd be upset if it happened again though.
Turn around and declare in a loud and stern voice, "Alright you Primitive Screwheads, listen up! You see this? This... is my BOOMSTICK! The twelve-gauge double-barreled Remington. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. You got that. . .?"
I'm not so sure it's all made up. We had something in our house mimicking various family members for a rather short period of time. It was usually heard by more than one family member at a time and the person being mimicked was never at home at the time.
You couldn’t be more wrong it’s hilarious. Spend enough time out there. And I mean enough. Eventually things can happen/something will happen. For some more than others. I’ve had my fair share. Hope you get to experience it atleast once!

I was camping along a stream in a holler near my home. I would go down and fish at night and only one time had I heard my name called. I had gotten into my bivy and fell asleep. Around 3 am I had to take a p. My small fire was out so I turned on the red light feature on my head lamp and went to go when I heard my name called. It was mimicking a recent girlfriend and we had broken up. I knew immediately it wasn't her. I turned off the light and made it back to my bivy. It called out again. This time a bit closer. I already knew the rule. I heard some rustling but I kept quiet. I had about 3 hours or so before sun up. It was the longest stretch of time before the sky began to brighten. As soon as I could see clearly I packed up and hiked out. While I still to this day hike and fish that holler, I do not go to that spot after sunset.
This is something I have a hard time believing. My mom went into the woods *ALONE*when she was at her grandpa’s house in the Appalachian mountains and she heard nothing like this. My dad grew up in the Appalachian mountains and I’m sure he’s probably been in the woods alone or in the woods after dark and hasn’t seen anything or heard anything like that. Edit: y’all… I asked older people in my family and they said that they had heard the rules…
I would suspect that spiritual beings can work around our senses. Even deaf people can hear voices in their heads (without being metnally ill). And blind people can have visions.
Rifle AND pistol is a bit overkill and heavy. But, yeah, same here. I'm always with my pistol with spare mags or a rifle/shotgun. Anyway, bullets and buckshot ain't much against the supernatural....
@@pennsyltuckyreb9800 True, but according to most accounts, when it comes to the various forms of shapeshifters, it's tough to kill them by shooting them, but it takes more than enough chunks out of them to stop the fight right then and there. Also, basically all traditional cultures believe in making noise to drive away evil spirits. And guns are pretty stupid loud. So better than nothing by a longshot, I'd say.
@CWCvilleCop Had a similar experience in an old, overgrown, haunted cemetary in Illinois about 25 years ago. Exploring the perimeter of the cemetary grounds at about midnight with my brother, when we heard the most horrible and loud sound. It was like the growling, choking , gurgling of a buffalo being strangled. Along with the thumping of some enormous animal getting up on its feet. You could feel the ground shake as if something very heavy was stomping on it. I immediately pulled my .45 auto and pointed it in the direction from which these noises came. At the same time I announced in a loud and firm voice : "I don't know if you understand English, but I have a magnum handgun here, which may not kill you, but will definitely blow ham sized chunks off your body !!" I think the calm and forceful tone of my voice gave whatever it was pause, because it got real quiet real fast. My brother and I then gradually and carefully withdrew from the area. Weirdest & most exhilarating experience I 've ever had scouting out paranormal.
No, no, Dagon or his ilk are strictly relegated to a few Atlantic coastal regions. Maybe could show up if you come across a strange hidden lake or pool but you'd be lookin at about the same odds as runnin across an injured/grounded Polyp (which would actually be unlucky, even if it was dead!)
I saw one... in the foothills of SC... its giant hand gripped a tree as it slipped behind it right as we shined a light in its direction. Ive never seen anything like that before or after.

Nobody in the WV part of Appalachia is going to ignore a cry for help just like a few weeks ago when a guy found a missing girl in the woods. There are no special rules except be respectful and don't trespass! As a rule if someone calls your name we're gonna go see who it is we don't ignore nothing that's just nuts. I feel sorry for any monsters that would wander into our woods....maybe that's why I've never seen or heard anything and sometimes I spend hours in the woods at night. If you live alone in the appellation mountains, WHOS CALLING YOUR NAME IN THE MIDDLE OF FUCKING NOWHERE.i know it’s not your best friend Steve, keep walking
I did that before. I heard my name behind and i said "what". I was in a camping trip at this time and i was around 14-15. I was walking with my brothers and heard my name called from behind. It was around 5 pm at this time, after i reply and looked back, i saw nothing. Something only happened when i went to sleep. I had nightmare of being choked by a women that stared right in my eyes with a bloody eye and rotten teeth. I couldn't move, or anything. I closed my eyes for a long time and then i woke up in the middle of the night in my tent gaspng for air. My brother was on his phone so he saw me gasping and wonder wtf happened. He said he heard me making noises in my sleep but just shrugged it off. I explained what i dreamt abd stayed up that night never going to sleep.

Not even for a second. You may never find the trail again. If you heard your name, you didn’t. If you saw something weird, you didn’t.
This was a BANGER! I haven’t listened to a decent story time in weeks. But you!
I remember as a kid, going outside at night to get something from the car. I never heard or seen anything, but felt an evil presence, and if I stopped something was going to grab me, especially going up the steps (12 steps) my legs got so weak they barely held me up. But I didn't stop and I didn't look back until I got inside.
I’ve lived in Appalachia all my life, I love all the spooky shit.
Me to man
Every seen anything?
I lived in the Appalachian foothills in ga,one night I was fishing and heard something,I took off toward home on a 3 wheeler and something black with like a cloak on was flying behind me in the air trying to grab me off the 3 wheeler, the shit is real I promise u.
your peripheral vision will see spirits but you can never see them when you turn and look at it.
As a definite human Appalachian resident, I can deny this. It is perfectly safe to turn around, in fact, a human clown will be there to entertain you had have fun and give out candy. Again, I am human.
Wich Indian? South Asian or North American?
His name is Aman Singh. What do you think? Anyways I'm also an Indian from India but idk what this guy's saying trying to represent India. @@sycamoreresident7295
You talking East Indians? They have that happen to them?
@@ItsEzraRoan Nah, indigenous Americans. They've been living and dying here far longer than anyone else, and the land remembers that. You gotta be careful near river water cause that's michi-pichew or heent-sabit territory and make sure to get the hell out of dodge if you hear an owl during winter cause contrary to popular belief, wendigo are more owl than deer.
When I lived in Georgia and was like 7yrs old my best friend and I would hear voices calling our names from the woods. We knew to run. It was usually close to being dark outside also. Very scary!

If you hear someone whistle don't respond in any way and get tf out of there quickly. This is well known in the Cumberland mountains
How does it know your name voice or family voice n names???
I hear my mom say my name sometimes right when I’m dozing off and that’s when I’m totally safe here in the house. That’s totally normal. And my mom is fine she’s not a ghost lol
@@Bamazon1990This used to happen to me a lot when my mom was living, and it was always kind of comforting to me. After she passed it stopped happening! But I don't think I'd be upset if it happened again though.
Don't ever compare the rockys to the appalachians!!!
Turn around and declare in a loud and stern voice, "Alright you Primitive Screwheads, listen up! You see this? This... is my BOOMSTICK! The twelve-gauge double-barreled Remington. S-Mart's top of the line. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That's right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about a hundred and nine, ninety five. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. You got that. . .?"

Ok, I'm going to go watch it for the 100th time now.
In India we believe don't turn wen someone asks things like cigarette food or offerings. Specially on highway.
Why?

The shadow beings. I heard many a stories from my elders about these beings. Even my dad has had experiences seeing them.
What if it was a hallucinogenic reaction to different species of mushroom spores within the Forrest air 😮.
While that could be possible in certain cases. It does not explain all possibilities. Far to many weird events to sum it all up to mushroom spores.
If you are ever lost in the woods and people show up hollering your name just run very very fast deeper and deeper into the woods.
🤣🤣🤣
i grew up in a tiny appalachian mountain town.. the stories people make up are so creative 😂
I'm not so sure it's all made up. We had something in our house mimicking various family members for a rather short period of time. It was usually heard by more than one family member at a time and the person being mimicked was never at home at the time.
Talkin about this like an instruction. Like its real af, and like ill ever go to the apalaichans in my life😂
What everyone is not being told is “ if you talk about haints you invite them into your life” good luck
I talk about God, that how I invited good spirits
Just go camp and realize all these folklores are your own mind playing tricks on you
Or campfire stories or just stories from crazy ppl lol.
Did you realize it or did you come to those conclusions. Cause we dont really know
Dont listen to this guy he is gonna get you killed i have seen it enough already
True, anything that is out to kill you wont make a sound, so really you are in the most danger when you think you are the most safe.
You couldn’t be more wrong it’s hilarious. Spend enough time out there. And I mean enough. Eventually things can happen/something will happen. For some more than others. I’ve had my fair share. Hope you get to experience it atleast once!
Finally ! A response rooted in realism. Although I believe there is definately something in those woods....I am more concerned with the kids going to school in December in tank tops and duct tape holding their shoes together. Is the Windygo of the Allegheny an Appalachian mountains
Pretty sure the wendigo is mainly in the northern areas toward the Great Lakes. In Appalachia it’s more feral people.
Took his advice.
Pissed my girlfriend off.
This advice can and should be followed for EVERYWHERE! 😂 😅
They must have some good drugs in Appalachia
Did you ever go pee?
@@CWCvilleCop Yep. I was going when it called. I turned off the lamp and finished before heading back. 😆

It happens at Mt Surprise also. North Qld Australia gem fossicking fields. Creepy!
My great grandmother used to say these were evil spirits ready to steal your soul. She said they'd do this through your eyes
Hidebehinds hate the smell of moonshine. Other strong liquors might have similar warding effect
Really? That’s interesting. I would think it would have the opposite effect?
I wear earphones while alone so won’t do them any good 😂😂😂
I feel like deaf people would be completely immuned to this
Not if it speaks in deaf language

I would suspect that spiritual beings can work around our senses. Even deaf people can hear voices in their heads (without being metnally ill). And blind people can have visions.
With the deaf, it tickles their butt cracks
If someone signs your name, no they didn't.
This is why I go with at least with a rifle and pistol every time I go to the woods
@@CWCvilleCop Good points! 👍
At the same time I announced in a loud and firm voice : "I don't know if you understand English, but I have a magnum handgun here, which may not kill you, but will definitely blow ham sized chunks off your body !!"
I think the calm and forceful tone of my voice gave whatever it was pause, because it got real quiet real fast. My brother and I then gradually and carefully withdrew from the area. Weirdest & most exhilarating experience I 've ever had scouting out paranormal.
I'm getting the chills! O_O
“Appalaytcha” & “If you hear your name, no you didn’t! ☝️😐”
Lmao.
This literally happens to me on a daily basis, stay away and never come here if you don’t want mangled by the wood booger
Y’all I’ve lived in these Appalachian mountains, my entire life and haven’t seen a Dagon thing. I don’t think they like me.
Same, I’m starting to wonder if maybe I’m too ugly or I smell bad because they never seem to want to talk to me, very weird 😅
No, no, Dagon or his ilk are strictly relegated to a few Atlantic coastal regions. Maybe could show up if you come across a strange hidden lake or pool but you'd be lookin at about the same odds as runnin across an injured/grounded Polyp (which would actually be unlucky, even if it was dead!)
it’s actually smart even if you don’t believe in that type of shit if you here a noise at night in the woods don’t investigate it
Missing 411 hunted i think its called is the freakiest documentary I ever watched. Made me rethink the deep woods completely.
I'm always strapped when out & about in the mountains.
Hearing my name is an opportunity to add a cryptid head to the trophy wall.
I saw one... in the foothills of SC... its giant hand gripped a tree as it slipped behind it right as we shined a light in its direction. Ive never seen anything like that before or after.
My Mother spoke of this..she was born and raised in the Appalachian mountains
It only feeds on outsiders. Us Appalachian born and raised have no issues 😂
Out of topic, but is there anybody who ever hear ur name being called by your mother or dad at house, but turn out your parents not home ?
Happened to me plenty of times. I also hear my wife call me and then when I go ask her "what?" she looks confused and says she didn't say anything.
I've done it and my parents are dead. And no, the supernatural doesn't exist.
@@t.mitchellb2766Except that it does, and if you delved into researching it with an open mind, you'd come to the same conclusion.
Been in West Virginia my whole life. Have also heard my name called alot in life.
That’s an amazing hat and o must have it
Im Joe this is my wife's account it's on my tablet but anyway: I grew up against the wilderness of WV and we live way back in the wilderness now and I've never heard this crap sorry. I'm the scariest thing in the woods if I catch you on my land man or monste don't matter to me...
If you live alone in the appellation mountains, WHOS CALLING YOUR NAME IN THE MIDDLE OF FUCKING NOWHERE.i know it’s not your best friend Steve, keep walking
I've witnessed this with other people off the Appalachian trail
Living in WV in the middle of the Appalachia mtns., there are a lot of weird things in the woods. We all know about it but ignore it as long as it minds it’s own business. Plus, we all carry big boy toys in the woods.😉
