I’m glad somebody else saw the light how cool and powerful this torch was. As a frenzy flame enjoyer, I equipped it immediately just for the style points and then was taken back by how good it actually was

I definitely see this getting tweaked... they should just swap the effectives of the torch and Midra's spell. Especially lore wise considering that Midra became a Lord of Frenzied Flame while whatever remnant is attached to Nanaya's Torch FAILED to be come one. It would also balance the insane speed at which it procs madness, with the torch there is little risk in using it, the spell leaves you vulnerable and without hyper armor. I feel like they're going to nerf the torch's madness build up into the ground though so enjoy it while we cuz madness never gets any love.
@@Scriffer they've already added a buff to shadow tree fragments for the negative reviewers so I don't see this preventing a change, 9/10 most of these broken new items in the DLC is just applying pressure to the person but most people back off and heal themselves or try to keep a gap and get punished

I feel like like the torch may be bug because is insane that proc madness in like one hit of the AoW Also, try the combo spread xbow with sleep bolt into the thiollier’s hidden needle AoW, it make explode enemies that are sleeping When you proc the sleep switch the xbow to a empty hand so you able to use the AoW, if not you will shoot again the xbow instead of the AoW
that sleep build is def on my radar, need to try that out! The torch is a little RNG with how fast it procs because the fire flies at random. Sometimes I get an insta proc and sometimes it just doesn't hit
I genuinely love the greatsword of damnation, might be my new favorite weapon. From my poor and likely inaccurate testing, the Dagger Talisman and Blade of Mercy work with it, so the grab seems to count as a crit. All the standard damage buffs work too ofc, but hopping on a phantom and doing more damage as a reward is already beautiful enough. Also, I'm stealing that fashion. It looks sick
tested dagger talisman in invasions tonight, it definitely works! Golden Crux can basically one shot people with mid vigor, kills anyone after landing an R1
just tried pairing the damnation sword and nanayas torch and they go so well together, especially at max level since optimizing stats while having enough int for the torch doesnt matter at max level bracket, still does 80% HP of all players i grab and the madness procs within like 1-2 seconds if i get lucky on the rng with the torch. Probably my new fav build now, nice job finding a pvp build that ACTUALLY feels great to use lol!!! great vid
I have an idea to counter this madness, start fight using clarifying horn charm+2 if madness about to proc swap to ailment talisman and then swap again to clarifying horn charm+2 so you dont get madness a second time. The grab and hyper armor of golden crux is generous, respect it and you should be good.
yeah it is, it doesn't make sense. Midra's spell should be the ultimate madness spell, but instead a measly little torch is so much better at proccing madness

add in the madness perfume bottle with rolling sparks ash and it does insane madness build up it would work so good with this build hot swapped from the torch

Getting the torch is very easy. Getting to Midra's Manse is the annoying part, and the worst part is getting the madness talisman which you can only get from killing a specific Winter Lantern (Aging Untouchable in this game) outside the church, and you can only do that by parrying it first. Good luck broski.
For the fists, I'm running a dex/faith 50/50 rl 150 build and it does a modest 425 damage before madness procs, I've had a lot of good luck with landing the spear hand strike and I've found out you get a guaranteed two heavy attacks from madness if you're close enough. If you're REALLY close, you can full charge the first heavy and follow up with another uncharged heavy. I usually reserve the charged heavies for when I've raised their madness with the torch and finished it with the fists.
Feels like it, it's not optimal by any means but I like it when I can still get whooped lol. Madding hand feels fair enough to me since it's such a short range weapon, torch I use in ganks
The proc rate on this torch is OP I remember when Elden ring was out madness spells in general got nerfed on how much madness they gave. Pretty sure this one’s gunna get it too
I noticed that! I was also using the +2 focus charm for a bit to give me a massive focus bar, but decided to just go for more damage because the torch doesn't inflict as much self madness like the incants do

@@dw7080 unfortunately no, that's the exact reason I first tried this setup - thought it would guarantee the grab. If you land the golden Crux L2 after madness it does not do the grab, it just does some damage and knocks them back just like landing any other attack. It's better to just R2 since it does similar damage without as long of a cast or end lag. Golden Crux is still excellent to have around vs aggro opponents or those that want to rely on their hyper armor to trade
This but with a colossal like the ancient ore GS is a much better setup in my experience. If they try to rush you down you just trade with the colossal and win the trade and when the madness procs from far away, you use the AOW to rush to them.
have you tried the spread crossbow with sleep bolts? that could be an insane combo with any madness weapons, but maybe particularly the hand or perfume
someone else told me that madness and sleep share a proc, so you can't actually chain one into the other. however, they may still work well on the same build just for the sake of proccing one or the other

No the madness buildup on the torch doesn’t scale with arcane, only way madness can scale with arc is on things like a blood/poison/occult fingerprint shield or with dragon communion seal + frenzy incants
@@dots1761 Thanks for the answer :) I also read some comments claiming that dagger & blade of mercy talismans, both of which increase the damage output on (dagger) or after (blade of mercy) critical hits, actually enhance the aow grab damage. You might want to try and test them too!
@@kingtree5137 frenzy seal is the worst seal in the game, use godslayer seal for 40-69 faith and erdtree seal for anything above that, if you wanna go int/fth use the golden order seal because it gets good scaling

kinda funny they don't realized using the torch is actually when you are the most vulnerable, they could had just hit you but instead they run and get procced instead, The flame projectiles themselves doesn't even do that much

Considering the sword of damnation is a str weapon. This build might even be more nasty if you just went str with a fth tax to use some of the spells/torch.
The hitbox, and tracking on the swords ash of war need adjusting. It looks like it will miss, but then teleports the target under the sword to get hit and spiked. Plus it jumps in the air. Almost guaranteed to land, and no way to punish. Super stronk.
quite well, it would basically cancel the second madness proc. But in this case, you would just start playing normally with the greatsword or go for the grab attack to finish the fight
I wish the Greatsword of Damnation was either a light Greatsword or the same moveset as the guardian sword spear. The only things special about it is madness buildup and an extremely underwhelming unique ash of war.

The sword doesn't proc madness, and the moveset is considered the best a greatsword can get with the pokes. Any GS with those pokes is instantly S tier.
I tried this recently. They added the new feature that prevents you from getting slept and madness for a few seconds after it procs. So getting just a sleep proc or getting just a madness proc will prevent both status effects from building up for a few seconds.
Yeah the sound was a little off on this vid for sure, I usually create vids from console but made this one from PC for the first time in a while. Generally sound quality is better 👍
it would! However, it doesn't work like that. If you go for the L2 after the madness procs, it does not connect, it just does some damage and knocks them away. Much better to just hit with an R2 and not be stuck in an endlag animation so you can start channeling madness again
a little bit, I'd recommend using the dagger talisman to boost the damage of the sword of damnation grab and maybe going strength focused instead of faith for more melee damage. The faith was mostly to try the madness incants, but I'm not a fan of them. The Torch of Nanaya carries in the madness department and you only need minimum faith/int investment to do that.
I always seem to have difficulty getting into arena, i see ya getting in seemingly instantly. Playing on PlayStation am i doing something wrong? I love trying builds like this but it feels like it takes 23 minutes to get into a match 😢
It's a pretty nutty grab hitbox rn, I wonder if it will be nerfed. You have to just sprint & roll/jump away. If you try to roll to the side, you're getting grabbed
This torch is broken so is swift slash, smithscript shield, and spread crossbow with sleep bolts they shouldn't even be allowed in pvp. Idk how L2 spam is fun to some people

good question. You don't have a long window before they can roll so the best you can do is as jump R2 or an uncharged standing R2. If you try to fully charge an R2, they will move out in time. There may be a more optimized weapon for this than the Greatsword of Damnation, but I feel like it fits thematically with Nanaya's torch

for some reason my 1 handed attacks with the greatsword do so little dmg when trying this build? any idea why> outside of the DLC area my R1 attack is rated at 140
@@izzycollins2695 648 with this build. If you invest more in strength than Faith, you can get it up past 700, but the ash of war and your madness spells will be weakened as a result. you can really go either way
So the torch is not really useful for PvE. However, the greatsword of Damnation is an excellent weapon for PvP and PvE. I'm running 60 faith on this version (along with the minimum stat reqs for the weapon and torch) so you can basically swap to any incants you want for PvE. It's pretty good. You could also just do 60 str instead of the faith and rely solely on higher sword damage
The madness is the extra flavor I enjoy! The zoning and ranged pressure it exerts baits people enough to aggress me and make the Golden Crux easier to land
Did you even watch the video? The build is in the video....at the beginning. It's even time-stamped for you. Madness is not particularly good in PvE since you cannot inflict madness on most enemies.

It’s not OP people are just bad at PvP. Especially if you were invading. They just trade into it and get grabbed. But it’s super easy to punish

Madness proc in 1 hit seems a bit too broken, though in reality it is not actually broken because when everything is broken then nothing is.
yeah in a vacuum, this is pretty broken. But relative to all the other nutty stuff going on rn, it's kinda even lol

I wonder how well the ailment talisman counters this build
quite well, it would basically cancel the second madness proc. But in this case, you would just start playing normally with the greatsword or go for the grab attack to finish the fight
I kinda wish midras sword could infuse with madness or do the weird umbrella unfurl stab as am r2 underated either way
It would be nice if it has that cool madness flame effect enchanted onto it after landing a grab or something
If you go all str with rakashas armor and dagger talisman/2handed talisman you can one shot most people
Yeah the strength focused version of this build might be better, I initially went faith to test the madness spells like Midra's flame of frenzy.
I wish the Greatsword of Damnation was either a light Greatsword or the same moveset as the guardian sword spear. The only things special about it is madness buildup and an extremely underwhelming unique ash of war.
Nah it's fantastic, it's literally the claymore moveset. It has thrust R2 and crouch R1 thrust

The sword doesn't proc madness, and the moveset is considered the best a greatsword can get with the pokes. Any GS with those pokes is instantly S tier.
Can you chain torch into sleep bolts and back to torch. Would be funny.

I tried this recently. They added the new feature that prevents you from getting slept and madness for a few seconds after it procs. So getting just a sleep proc or getting just a madness proc will prevent both status effects from building up for a few seconds.

The base dmg of the torch seems to be very weak. Its the instant madness proc that makes it terrifying to enemy players
that sword should have had madness buildup

Yeah the sound was a little off on this vid for sure, I usually create vids from console but made this one from PC for the first time in a while. Generally sound quality is better 👍

it would! However, it doesn't work like that. If you go for the L2 after the madness procs, it does not connect, it just does some damage and knocks them away. Much better to just hit with an R2 and not be stuck in an endlag animation so you can start channeling madness again
I really wish midras frenzied flame was actually useful
I think it needs a bit of a buff. It's heavily over shadowed by the torch for quick madness procs and by unendurable frenzy for heavy combo damage
How does this build go in the Base Game PvE on NG+ and above ?

a little bit, I'd recommend using the dagger talisman to boost the damage of the sword of damnation grab and maybe going strength focused instead of faith for more melee damage. The faith was mostly to try the madness incants, but I'm not a fan of them. The Torch of Nanaya carries in the madness department and you only need minimum faith/int investment to do that.

Huh I wrote off the torch as being a gimmick torch. But after seeing this I might pick it up and mess around and reinvest my stat points
I always seem to have difficulty getting into arena, i see ya getting in seemingly instantly. Playing on PlayStation am i doing something wrong? I love trying builds like this but it feels like it takes 23 minutes to get into a match 😢

That ash of war great sword cannot be i frame dodge. its impossible to roll through if your opponents have high latency.
It's a pretty nutty grab hitbox rn, I wonder if it will be nerfed. You have to just sprint & roll/jump away. If you try to roll to the side, you're getting grabbed

It def is. Something is up with the math of this torch. Not enough self madness and too much madness on foes
This torch is broken so is swift slash, smithscript shield, and spread crossbow with sleep bolts they shouldn't even be allowed in pvp. Idk how L2 spam is fun to some people

it's worth it, only 14 int for a busted madness proc

After they proc madness, can't you just hit them with a heavy move that deals 1500+ damage and end the fight right there?
good question. You don't have a long window before they can roll so the best you can do is as jump R2 or an uncharged standing R2. If you try to fully charge an R2, they will move out in time. There may be a more optimized weapon for this than the Greatsword of Damnation, but I feel like it fits thematically with Nanaya's torch
understandable. I was just thinking of how toxic it would be to swap weapon and jump attack with two colossal weapons.
@@xorce1009 that's a really good point! might have to try that lol. Only problem is the immense endurance required to hold two colossals - might not be able to do that easily at 150 without using two equip load talismans and cutting into other stats
might not even need to be two colossals. 2 bleed nagakiba might also be annoying.

for some reason my 1 handed attacks with the greatsword do so little dmg when trying this build? any idea why> outside of the DLC area my R1 attack is rated at 140
sounds like you don't have the right stats or your weapon is not upgraded

Not enough strength. Try two handing.
@@izzycollins2695 648 with this build. If you invest more in strength than Faith, you can get it up past 700, but the ash of war and your madness spells will be weakened as a result. you can really go either way

So the torch is not really useful for PvE. However, the greatsword of Damnation is an excellent weapon for PvP and PvE. I'm running 60 faith on this version (along with the minimum stat reqs for the weapon and torch) so you can basically swap to any incants you want for PvE. It's pretty good. You could also just do 60 str instead of the faith and rely solely on higher sword damage
That greatsword is all you really need tbh, extremely broken in pvp.
The madness is the extra flavor I enjoy! The zoning and ranged pressure it exerts baits people enough to aggress me and make the Golden Crux easier to land
That sword need a nerf the tracking is insane, i can roll out of it but still is insane damage
The tracking on it is pretty gnarly

Madness is not particularly good in PvE since you cannot inflict madness on most enemies.
