Short answer NO. Longer answer: Submission is a word that does not sit well with modern women but looking at this in the Christian context of marriage it shouldn't be an issue. When you think about it, if men are called to love their wives as Christ loves the church, that means he loves her so much that he is willing to die for her. If he loves her that much he is not going to be harsh with her. I do think though that if a man is not fulfilling his role this would somewhat alter the situation and dynamic. I used to really dislike this scripture until I saw it in its correct context.

I was lucky with the way my father treated me, he was very "liberal". Mum was the bossy one in our house.
