    **sorry for the weird audio at the end, good'ol copyright claim on a backing track had to be fixed
    what's your favourite way of boosting an amp within your fractal unit ?
    i usually go for filter/EQ for boosts, but you can get some killer results with drive blocks

    Nice job as always mate. For boosting, I try to keep everything in the amp block, so I will do either neutral or drive boost (with scene controller if needed) and amp input eq to dial out lows going in. Same result, just one less block in the chain.

    • @paulbradshawguitar
      @paulbradshawguitar  8 месяцев назад +1

      thanks 🙏 yeah you can do a lot with just the amp block/preamp boost
      i find some of the boosts on that tab sometimes take over a bit too much of the character of the amp (in saturation and response) i think you can dial in a better grind/hm-2 style boost with EQ for example, but it's awesome having options in any case

    Thankyou for the great demo, and great playing! It really makes it easier to understand what to do to make a metal amp chain! I really want an Axe Fx 3 now, since first looking 4 days ago. Are the axe fx 3 II and axe fx 3 II turbo any improvements in sound quality to your personal experience, and is it worth the extra money over an axe fx 3? I'm considering an fm9 also. I'm mainly interested in metal tone amps, 50% right now, but appreciate all amp sounds. Could you please do a runthrough of a ir cab capture and a tone matching amp capture some day please, and if they rival the kemper? My friend tried an axe fx earlier model, didn't like the complexity, but thought i would, and got a kemper 8 years ago. He modeled my Diezel Herbert Mk2 with it and the results were good. i'm curious what the new axe fx 3s , axe fx 3IIs and axe fx II turbos woud sound like with ir and tone matches ? Thanks for the great instruction! i'm subscribing!

    • @paulbradshawguitar
      @paulbradshawguitar  Месяц назад +1

      thanks, appreciated 🙏 there's no difference as far as i know in sound quality between the fx 3 mark 1/2/turbo, they all use the same algorithms, and there is maybe a an extremely small difference between fm3/fm9/axe fx 3
      the fractal units is a different approach in that it's component modelling with extreme attention to detail with lots of parameters that you can tweak *if* you want to , therein lies the potential complexity, but you don't have to change all those settings just because they're there (in the same way you don't need to eat all the food at a buffet just because it's there =) you make choices, but having choice is great
      i'll do a video on this at some point in a more general form as an overview of the unit, as i think it might be useful
      I prefer the approach of modelling over profiling as you're dialing in something from the ground up, and not trying to find say a particular profile that matches what you're looking for, you can dial in the tone you want,
      for more info/videos on the tone matching check out Leon Todd's video: ruclips.net/video/mUES2bXXQag/видео.html
      he's got some great videos on tone matching and all things fractal/guitar and more, great channel
      the FM3/FM9 doesn't have tone matching, it hasn't bothered me in my approach and setting up sounds
      ultimately it's whatever works best for you and your workflow, for me at least the Fractal unit is my first choice for digital modelling/guitar tones
      hopefully that helps

    I had some fun testing out the Gauss drive (Mesa Flux-Drive) in the new beta firmware for the FM9 yesterday. I have a very positive first impression. So far, it seems like a keeper. I need to keep playing, but I think I might need to change a few presets around by adding it.

    Interesting video, thanks for your efforts! Interesting that you aren's using dync cabs. I have gazillions of IRs but after the release of dyna cabs I very rarely use em anymore...

    • @paulbradshawguitar
      @paulbradshawguitar  8 месяцев назад +2

      thanks 🙏 yeah i'll be doing a deeper dive into dyna cabs soon,
      i guess for making a preset from scratch, it's quicker to pick single cabs from within the list, i'm more used to it as well, but the dyna cabs definitely make your tone shaping via the cab block a lot easier, i'll do a video on this soon
      for metal stuff i still usually use IRs and blends of them from OTTO audio, they're working the best for me at the moment

    New to FM3 and Fractal.... I've read a lot of times on the forum and also the manual, that I should watch the "headroom" on the amp block and it shouldn't be constantly sitting near the 0db mark, because of oversaturation through the master volume. During playing yours is around -1 and 0. According to those sources, one should lower the master volume and rather increase the level on the amp.
    What's your take on this?

    • @paulbradshawguitar
      @paulbradshawguitar  Месяц назад

      thanks for the comment, it really depends on the tone you're after
      from what i understand saturation through the master volume will result in more power amp saturation, which can or not be desireable,
      usually on high gain/metal tone amps where the power amp is intended to be clean (e.g in 5150, recto style circuits) the headroom is a handy visual feature to see if you're clipping the master volume, ie. getting power amp saturation or wether the power amp is clean
      some of the hi gain amps have a huuuge amount of headroom (some of the FAS models i think as an example)
      i'd try lowering the master volume and setting the level to taste to see how that feels, and also try raising the master volume and setting the level to taste, just to really see and feel the difference and make a decision based on that
      on non master volume style amps (e.g marshall plexi, some vox circuits etc..) that power amp saturation is also part of the tone
      the way i like to look at this, is that's there's no right or wrong way per say, just different tones on tap =) if it sounds and feels good stick with it, sometimes quite extreme settings can result in some pretty awesome tones, it's always worth experimenting to really see the difference , as long as you're not clipping the output meters you're good
      hope that helps

    Why is the gate after the amp/cab? Shouldnt it go before those?

    • @paulbradshawguitar
      @paulbradshawguitar  5 месяцев назад +2

      there's also a gate in the input block, for super hi gain i prefer using a sidechain style gate after the amp/cab
      it's tighter than setting it in front of the amp, for stop/go style rhythms or djent especially useful, feel free to experiment in any case

      @@paulbradshawguitar Just got your preset pack for a little reward. One issue I have with my setup is most presets (in general, not just yours) either sound good through my monitors but not through the headphones and vice versa. Is there any advice you can give for quick adjustments for this scenario. The ones that sound good on headphones are obviously too bassy on the monitors, but anything other than that?

    • @paulbradshawguitar
      @paulbradshawguitar  5 месяцев назад +2

      @@Henry14arsenal2007 thanks, much appreciated for getting the presets
      I know the issue, i think the easiest way would be using the Global EQ (under Setup - Out1 EQ) and tweak that to your headphones, and either turn it on, or disable it (bottom right of first setup page in Fractal Edit)
      that way you have a baseline EQ that is tweaked for your headphones that you can turn on/off depending on what output you're using
      you can also just have a PEQ block with something saved in the library with tweaked settings, but that involves adding that each time to presets
      with the Global EQ it will however affect whatever's coming out of Output1 as well, so if you're recording with that at the same time, you might want to look at another option which is EQing within your DAW at the output, just for recording/listening purposes and then turning that off before you bounce the recording to a final version, just something to bear in mind
