If you're wealthy you can be better shielded from the harsh reality of the poor in a region you live at, because the government proactively protects wealthy areas, at the cost of everyone else. Apparently, richer guys have a louder voice and more influence in most cases, for better or worse.

Have you noticed that when rich people move into a neighborhood, prices jump up. If this is how the rich want to help poor people they would stay in the areas where they made their fortunes. I say, for myself, do me a favor and stay out of our neighborhoods. We don't need your "so called help", because we know that whatever area you touch things get worse. They either become more polluted, more expensive, or more fractured. With the kind of help that the wealthy brings to the table, most of us can do without it.

In Michigan for example, there was a 25ish year waiting period between the housing downturn in the 80's due to the Savings and loans crisis and the 2008 global financial crisis. There was a decent housing downturn in some area's of CA during the Dot Com bust. I think we'll see a downturn in housing in the next few years here, because of the run up in prices in so many area's. We never had run ups in prices like this until after the mid 1990's. Also the Inventory shortage won't mean squat, when people lose theirs J.O.B.'s.

He totally misrepresented why there is backlash in Puerto Rico about people like him being there. It’s not because they are “jealous of successful people.” It’s because the influx of Americans trying to get better tax rates has driven up prices to the point where in key areas locals can no longer afford to live there.
I’m not saying he is wrong on his reasons for leaving California, I’m saying he’s being intellectually disingenuous on his reasons for the frictions in Puerto Rico. He moved from where he was on the losing end of the economic pendulum, to where he is on the winning end (great for him)…but that means he’s putting THEM on the losing end…and they don’t like it.

I want to share a real story of that law that Mr Malone is trying to "sugar code" as a great thing for the Puerto Ricans locals. One of my 88 years old puerto rican aunt, whom happens to be on social security was recently evicted and threatened by one of the beneficiaries of that tax law. My 88 year old aunt receives 800 dollars a month of social security. She was renting an apartment in Cabo Rojo for 500 a month. She lived at the same place for 15 years. One day, one you of you guys, offered to buy the building and increased the rent to all occupants to 2k per month without any notice. Since they required my aunt to earn 3 times rent (6k per month) and she only made 800 a month on social security; she was "threatened" to leave the place in 30 or face legal eviction if she was not able to pay the new rent of 2k (all of this with 30 days of notice). Plus she had to leave at the end of her lease (even if she came up with the 2k per month, since she no longer qualified). My aunt ended up in the streets "homeless" at the age of 88. My cousin is also facing the same issue at a city named Bayamón. She is paying 600 for a place that is not even in a great location (Crime + drugs infected), and a crypto guy took it over and increased the rent to 1800 a month, from 600. Since My cousin does not speaks English she asked me to translate and i personally called the new landlord and told him she could not afford the increase. For my surprise the guy attitude was to laugh and told me to tell my cousin to "earn like an American" so she could afford the new rent and hanged up with an F-U attitude (My Cousin is a single mom that works as a teacher at a public school) . This is what the rican people are sick and tired of. Your entitlement and attitude that "I'm rich, i pay no taxes in your country,, while you pay 45%, so i own you". We have no problem with someone moving into our country; but if you decide to move, pay taxes like everyone else. if I move to one of the states, I'm expected to pay my taxes like every US citizen. We expect the same from you or anyone that moves to PR; PAY YOUR TAXES.

If enough wealthy investors go to Puerto Rico to provide affordable housing, not worried about taxes and regulations holding them back too much,
there is hope that competition and supply will lower the cost of rent overtime.
Given enough success, Puerto Rico might be able to slowly but surely reverse trend without damaging the economy, by creeping up taxes on the wealthy investors, and lowering taxes on locals.
Of course, there are a lot of wild cards in play here, and the benefits of a free market helping the poor and middle class will not come immediately.
Puerto Rico is in a tricky boat entirely, due to their status as "not a state" and being a small island area, plus a lot of poverty.
Of course, all this is for naught if we don't get to the root cause of this problem: the Federal Reserve and our worldwide debt based monetary system.

If low down payments and a reduced credit score didn’t exist back in the 80’s when I bought my first home neither myself nor ANY of my peers would have ever been homeowners. Interest rates are not the problem and if I am not mistaken (I am not) they are not far off from the average over the last 3 decades. Inflated prices of EVERYTHING is the real problem along with the destruction of high paying middle income jobs. This is the result of the decline in manufacturing (NAFTA) and increase in a service based economy.

If you put locals in a situation where they have nothing left to lose, i guarantee they'll get violent pretty fast, we have cop killers too, the law enforcement in puerto rico is a joke and everyone talks about it.
Go ahead and raise the rents to thousands of dollars, either you'll be forced to lower it because you wont find tenants, or you'll be leaving because of constant raids (yes, raids) from enraged locals already pushed to their limits, just like South Africa.

Some corporate businesses bribed, bought off and/or extorted government into giving them favors and/or creating barriers for their competition... which is how they became monopolies in the first place... who now still own those politicians.
In many cases, the politician IS their own guy from the git-go.

Based upon Creator endowed rights. Some were deists, others agnostic, some Christian and so on. But they agreed that there must be a Creator sewn into the very documents and foundations of the new world, because if you didn’t have that, everything would be subjective and you would instead have privileges granted by man. Which can be taken away at a moment’s notice. We’ve basically regressed into where the founders knew we would if we hadn’t stayed vigilant.

Think about the total amount of California sales taxes are paid for a purchase of a car. The same car, over the lifetime of the care, may be bought and sold six times. The lousy state of California collects a sales tax six times on the same car. The value naturally decreases but a sales tax each time the car is sold, except to a relative adds up to a pretty nasty amount. Some cars may be sold more than six times over its lifetime and others less than six times. Anyway, it is viewed, what a RIP OFF! California just sucks, and, since I was in the Navy, screw the ocean or the desert.

MRNA was mentioned in a book I read written approximately 20 years ago. Beyond Genetics by Glenn McGee. Bit of a rough writer. Good information to understand to this day

Its happening also in AZ. I dont think its a Democrat or Republican thing. Its a government thing. Arizona/ Republican states are supose to be more business friendly and businesses oriented states, but its actually the opposite and that considering Im originally from California and moved to Arizona. Arizona seems to be a very negative state. Seems to have a strng element of No,No brickwall everything and dead end you unless your already wealthy. Alot of people I know and have had conversations with see the same. And its not and hasnt been a cheap state at all for a long time now. But yes United States is in the Dumpster now. Were no longer the best country anymore, were actually a garbage comunist country along with the other horrible contries

Housing is subsidized by govt with tax breaks which accounts for a portion of the inflation of housing , meanwhile the taxes on incomes of workers has increased. Along with the inflation tax piled on Americans…. There accounts for the differentiation of housing costs to incomes. Govt at its best eh?

Inflation is related to the war effort and all the "free" checks government gave away a few years ago. War equals hidden taxes!

My husband has been a merchant Marine for over 20 years and the Jones acts protects American Mariners. Of course you'd have somebody rich trying to say something bad about it.
