      I shoot Federal probably 85-90% of the time for that reason, though not always syntech, but the syntech rounds do run cleaner and cooler. You just have to get used to the little purple or red flecks of jacket when you're cleaning.

    • @OldMister
      @OldMister 27 дней назад +1

      @@billvill61 Yep, I always run Syntech too for keeping the barrel cool and accurate with rapid fire at target practice. That's probably even more important in a self-defense situation, so I'll actually be carrying these instead of HST from now on. Fragmenting rounds are also proven to incapacitate quicker than one bullet can, on average. In that way this is like a "poor man's shotgun" that can be carried in the pocket. 👍👍

      I love these rounds, used to carry them all the time in my Beretta 92fs, now i carry them in my tisas 45 acp. Unfortunately, they're hard to find nowadays online with the exception of Optics planet and a few others. I found my 45 variant of the ammo in a gun shop, just one lone box of them. I'm now looking to buy more, as I'm pretty much out sadly except one magazine full. Feed great and reliably in my 1911. Cheap too! Will probably get HST rounds if I can't find them in person... and wait for online.

    Not a big fan of segmenting rounds. However, of all the segmenting/fragmenting rounds that you have tested, these are the most consistent, deepest penetrating in a straight line, and best performing in the gel. So giving credit where it's due, Federal did an excellent job of designing this ammo. I would use this in my Taurus G3 in a heartbeat.

    • @thebluesrockers
      @thebluesrockers Год назад +10

      @@mplslawnguy3389 All ammo can be lethal. some say that fragmentation causes less damage, and other people state that it has a better chance of not over penetrating.
      A shot gun is like a bunch of fragmenting partials but there's a lot more powder in a shotgun, shell. not to mention the length of the barrel. I would say at close range it would be an awesome round on a human. However, a JHP will be the best choice in most situations, in my humble opinion. You're watching the best ammo tester on You Tube. so I'd say to agree with him is always going to be good. But like I stated, "At close range they may do more damage to someone.
      But if you were to shoot a bear in self defense, you'd probably end up being his dinner. hahaha.. Peace.. Joe

But If I'd ever had to shoot someone in self defense, the thought of a hostile overly zealous prosecutor trying to make me out to be looking to murder someone, was to daunting. Another great video. A lot of folks (it seems you included) seem to get hung up on the amount of mushrooming a bullet has and also the permanent stretch cavity. Permanent stretch cavity is good for making blood trails and (ultimately) killing an aggressor but for ending the fight immediately, one needs a CNS hit. The 'only' way to do this is to hit the spine or the brain. This round gives a 400% increased chance of hitting a spine in a torso hit. If one of those fragments clips the spine, the fight is over. Comparing apples to oranges - permanent wound cavity - this round creates 4 wound cavities that seem to spread out in a 90 degree cone. In ten years, after some of these have been used in defensive shootings, I'm sure that we will find that they did the job (instant incapacitation) much better than standard hollowpoints.

The segments went a considerable way into the gel also. Plus, the name might be less damaging to your legal defense if you ever needed to rely on them(compared to something like RIP.) I missed it by a little and I am surprised
    I run them through an OG Ruger LC9 hammer fired and they kick like a government mule.

    • @snowdogthewolf
      @snowdogthewolf 9 месяцев назад +1

      It does give some leeway when shot placement is less than ideal. Shot placement that would have otherwise missed vitals with a standard JHP might still clip the heart, liver, lungs and whatnot with these rounds. Might even clip several vitals, being we have 4 different wound paths, accelerating bleeding and thus incapacitation.
      I do have a few boxes of these I purchased well before this video, but I still prefer the tried and true HST (and even Golden Saber Bonded JHPs in some applications, such as out of my PSA AK-V and CX4 Storm).

    • @Spike_-rx7bx
      @Spike_-rx7bx 9 месяцев назад +1

      Same thinking process. Higher chance of hitting multiple arteries, organs and muscle.
      You have the 3 petals spread to expedite internal bleeding and the center core create a 4th hole for other potential organs/bone. Which looks to have some barrier penetration when/if needed. The center core seems to be almost the size of a jhp .45 before expansion 😮
      If worried about penetration the Hornady does make rounds with less power for less penetration

    • @boostimalaka1

      The fact is the surgeons can’t tell the difference from the 9mm to a 45. This information is rarely known. The reason the F.B.I. went back to the 9mm is the newer ammunition is basically the same or even better than the best .45 available.
      This ammunition is around a few years, data on it being used in shootings might be around. Mas Ayoob usually has that information.

    • @nikos6220
      @nikos6220 Год назад

      @@boostimalaka1 the FBI switching back to 9x19 is real can of worms. I still believe the true reason was money and inclusiveness towards smaller framed officers 😁.
      On the effect on flesh, as a hunter I can tell you that my 600 ft-lb 357 Sig does something different than a 300 ft-lb 9x19. A 400 ft-lb 9x19 vs. a 400 ft-lb .45 ACP…yes that will be more marginal
      And to come back to the video, this fracturing ammo creates very different wound channels than a classic JHP. I think it is Roulette to hit something critical with those small light paddles while the actual wound channel is way reduced.
