As someone else with over 40 years experience in remodeling and home improvement, electrical isn't difficult once you acquire the basic knowledge. This is well documented and great advice for those wanting to learn how. Y'all always do a great job with the videos, and Jordan's edits are excellent! While I'm certain the safety police are gonna go crazy, I saw absolutely nothing in this video that was not done safely, and mitigated any potential for danger. In fact, you found quite a few things that never would have been noticed without the circuit tracing being done. Ignore the idiots, and keep doing what you do.
Love the blooper and retake "What I'm gonna do to prove this is the refrigerator circle" -> "What I'm gonna do to prove this is the refrigerator circuit" I have no problem taking the panel cover off. I may be a software engineer, but I hobby in electricity/electronics, and had a great teacher in high school that taught our Electricity and Electronics and safety in class.
Even though we have iPads, cellphones….TECH; I still prefer to this day using a white board to draw and layout/mark all the work that is going to be done, AND THE NICE thing is…… ¹ALSO, I like using diff colored markers on the white board to help organize things. Doesn’t take that much more time, but for me, I can quickly look at the board and see my breaker numbers compared to “building drawing”(example: use black for drawing rooms, building, etc….and use BLUE to label breakers, and then orange for objects like switches, outlets, and so on….) Most cellphones or tablets have Notes apps of some kind (or 3rd party) that you can select whiteboard when taking a pic to import all that info into digital; where can share, change, write over (making corrections or notes) for everyone to see who like the “digital” thing, compared to “old school”. So, it’s a win win😉👍🏻 I use both, but b/c most tablets and cellphones are small displays; having a huge whiteboard REALLY comes in handy when doing any project, not just electrics, layout😉 Great vids Gents, & keep up the great work you do….attention to detail, and that high standards level👍🏻👍🏻 Cheers✌🏻 ¹ Edited to add this
Guys, my son and I are in a remodel now and your videos are showing me tricks and tips I wished I had known years ago. I am going to map our house like this when we go back this weekend so I can check to see if all the rooms are OK with the load. We just pulled out the main bathroom and plan to replace all of the electrical in there along with the vent fan in the ceiling. The lights in there always flickered when the vent fan was running so I am wondering if it was overloaded. Great video. Keep them coming.
Another great job gentlemen. One of the things I notice Paul, is that you do not merely know how to do the work correctly, you have the vocabulary to go with it, which demonstrates another level of understanding of the trade, and suggests that you have spent a great deal of time studying, observing, and performing this kind of work, e.g. your explanation and use of the term, "bonding" in this video. And I hear in you a desire to get it right, not only so that you are more effective in teaching, but also to become more confident that the Internet will have less material from which to critique the work. Blessings!
So apprapo and so tastefully done! Who better to benefit than guys that work so hard and stress so much. It’s a nice reminder for guys to take care of themselves while they are working hard to take care of their families. I’m elated for them and everyone who benefits from the products!
You guys make the best videos. Informative and entertaining. Before you erase that white board, take a picture of it. Maybe even print it out. It will be a handy future reference for you or the homeowner.
Fantastic knowledge drop boys. This video should be the first thing popping up when anyone searches mapping a breaker. Watching pros do pro things at pro levels is always entertaining. The circuit siren is very handy when doing electrical by yourself. CONGRATS ON 90K this week!!! Big 100K Milestone coming up!
Ohhhhhh my! 😍 I can’t wait to redo my map. At the time I was relabeling my panel I googled for ideas till I gave up and made a janky list. I will make a map, laminate it and tape it inside the box for future homeowners reference. 😎
Only big surprise in this video was naked wire in circuit breaker box.. Great, that You find it! White board idea is better than paper drawing - easier to change something without redrawing.. 👍😉
I'm not taking down my walls, but I absolutely need to get everything mapped out properly for the electrical. I had turned off what I thought was all of the electrical for the AC/heater but there was still a hot cable under the house. AC people left it lying on the dirt. When I passed it I could feel a buzz coming off of it and told my friend to avoid it (we were running new water lines after that winter storm that hit Louisiana busted all the pipes). He forgot and it zapped him. It is in a sleeve but it still managed to jolt him hard enough he flew up and hit his head on the underside of the house & lost bladder control. So now I turn off nearby breakers as well as the AC. I also turned off the hot water breaker just in case. I bought some conduit that I plan to run that cable through in the future bc I know something is very wrong if it can zap someone when there doesn't appear to be any exposed wire. My house is all electric too. But its a fairly large house so its going to be a pain to map out everything. My father mapped out the electrical in the 80s but things have changed since then and I haven't found a more recent sketch of his and he passed away years ago. I can somewhat use his diagrams to locate most of the outlets and switches-- although I know for sure that some more were added. about 1/3 of the electrical in the house is no longer working so I need to figure out why. One issue I noticed is that I sometimes see sparks when I flip a switch. I've gotten a little zap from my bathroom light switch before. I want to change out all of my toggles to rockers. They are easier for me to flip. The whiteboard idea is genius. I have a large whiteboard I can use for this. I actually plan to put a magnetic whiteboard on the inside of my exterior door (which is steel clad). It got dented a little in transport and I want to add some visual interest (and a place to put notes). I'm going to use a white board for my electrical panel notes and then take a picture. On my circuit board there are magnetic labels and I think some got moved. I know one says AC/Heater on it. I really need to replace every single outlet in my house. I think its mostly 20amp with larger for AC, Dryer, heater, water heater, water well, etc. Got 2 15amp but I think I want to upgrade to 20amp (all wire is at least 12gauge or higher). Ooh, I just checked a photo of my breaker box and I have the Square D breakers that look like that. How do you know they are QO style breakers? I stopped to google and I see its Quick Open breaker. That reminds me, I need to upgrade from 3wire to 4 wire for my dryer when I move it. I will be moving it closer to the electrical panel. How do you test what breaker is used for a light switch? I like how you marked the cables with the breaker numbers. I'll have to do that with tape or something.
Great video as always I never miss one… Just a note though… A receptacle is not a plug. Plug is what’s at the end of cord. The plug goes into the receptacle. Also I think outlet is proper
look at all the content on this channel. great sweet and simple quick vid. love you guys listen and read comments and having fun. Great job with adding graphics Jordan!
I dont even remember the first video of yours i watched but i have been watching all of them almost back to back... You guys are great, keep up the amazing content
You guys just broke the 90K threshold! Almost at 100K! Let's go folks, let's help these guys get 9,500 more subs to smash that barrier! And keep liking and hitting that notification bell!
Great work once again. I am glad you pointed out that if you are not comfortable pulling that cover, call an electrician. There are many that should not even make the attempt. I like the diagram bit and all you did, that will help me in the future. I always did make me a little list, but the way you do it is much better. I wish you guys were a little closer to me. I am in La. but too far away. I am interested in the next video too, because I want to see how you wire up the range.
Also, check for proper Gauge/Amp. Most houses have 20 amp breakers on #14 (Probably because they got tired resetting them) but this is dangerous and wrong.
Great info with awesome explanations. Go back to the panel though and make sure those Neutrals aren’t double-tapped as well. Seen many many many of them scorched. NEC doesn’t allow it and it will be a great vid as you rewire everything!
Another great video! 👍🏻👍🏻 I actually hit the like button as the video starts... I'm just "liking" that you had time to do another one! 😂🤣🤣 (BTW, looks like double-tapped neutrals... first noticed around 9:20-ish)
Great job explaining guys I would have loved to see you changing out a breaker since I need to do this with one of mine. Great to hear you got your first sponsor....you deserve it!
Nice clear explanation - damn those mice. When possible I try to have two circuits in each room so a short in one light or plug leaves another circuit for lights in an emergency.
