I’ve owned this model ever since my mom gave it to me as a Christmas present, must’ve been in the early 1970s. She saw how much I liked to sew, when I learned to sew in 7th grade HomeEc class. I’m 61 now, & I just finished a project of repurposing a quilt into a jacket. This machine has certainly withstood the test of time!
Oh my goodness i cant tell you how greatful i am that you made this!! My grandma gave me this machine and i could not find any videos on the basics. Thank you!!!
Thanks so much ; my wife just got a Singer fashion mate 257 today, I looked it over and is in tip top shape belts are good will clean and oil then it's all her's 😇
Got one (used) in the 1970s, gave it away in 2014 - because of the weight - as I moved across the continent. REGRETS! Hope whoever has it now appreciates it.
Threaded wrong. Thread should be behind the metal arm just over the tension arm coming down and then again when you come back up from the spring. I’ve had this machine for many years
I inherited thi machine which has been sitting in my closet for years. I think the first thing I'll do is have it serviced. But, after that I need to find videos on how to set it up and find beginner patterns.
Thanks for showing me this! I hand sew a lot of things. Sell them too. But my fiance found one of these on the side of the road one day scraping metal. I've never used a sewing machine I can't wait. One problem, it's slow. Could you tell me what's wrong with it.
The gears are probably gunked up. You may need to wipe the gears down with keronsene or lighter fluid if that is the case. First I would try oiling it real good and let it run for a while without any fabric under it. It should start to sound better. Let me know!
@@mrs.pamelar.martindbacastl911 That's exactly what I did and it picked up in speed! I was so happy. My grandmother sewed a lot and I think she wanted me to have this machine. I already made one grocery bag holder. Took me 10 mins versus half a day. I love it. It has a lot of oil on it. Someone took good care of it.
Hi Ms Pamela. Thank you for the video. I am new at using sewing machine and like to know why does your right hand have to push the wheel all the times when the machine is sewing or in motion ????

That's awesome! Yes get it out and put it to work! I have a few sewing videos. May do more later.
I found one for $25 do you think the service will be nominal? I'm just giving sewing a try and definitely need some classes.
Yeah. I just got my own yesterday and wish to know how I can service it
Please what’s the best needle size for the machine to sew thick materials

@@feliciabriand4190 That is wonderful news! Thanks so much for letting me know! You "Go Girl!" and keep on sewing!
Thanks for the great video :)
Thank you!
Rough sounding machine.I wonder if it needs oiling to loosen it up?
These machines need oiling on a regular basis.

To give the machine a tug to get it started faster.
IF YOU don't need to do it then don't. This machine has been sitting a while.
These vintage machines DO NOT like to sit idle! They like to sew!
