    Actually, did you know that the "DIE WILY!" Dialogue is only in th U.S. version of Mega Man 7? In the original Japanese version, that text is actually just supposed to be "........"
    It's supposed to be Rock questioning himself. He's basically asking himself "could i really do it? If i could? Should i do it...?"
    But of course here in the U.S. it had to be cool and edgy, so it was changed to "DIE WILY!"

  • @marnea1
    @marnea1 10 лет назад +118

    There's few small flaws in your theory, Matt.
    1. Dr. Wily is hardly an idiot when it comes to robotics. You make it sound like all he can do is sit back and beg robots to pretty please join him. If that were the case the stages and his fortresses would be empty, and he'd come at you on a bicycle.
    2. You made it sound like Dr. Light made all the robot Masters. He only made the first and ninth Batch of Robot Masters himself. Has I recall, the second, fifth and Seventh batches were all made from the ground up by Wily. The third was made by Light and Wily together. The fourth batch was made by Dr. Cossack. The sixth were made by robotic engineers from all over the world and entered in a global competition. The eighth also came from all sorts of different places, such as Clown Man's being an old amusement park attraction, though I don't believe their creators are ever credited none of them were Thomas Light, I'm pretty such.
    3. LIGHT'S ROBOT'S CAN'T KILL PEOPLE.
    Dr. Wily reprograms them and erases the program that prevents them from doing so. Yes this includes Mega Man. That's probably why he's talking so slow he's, trying to go against his programing, and probably wouldn't have been able to. Remember that scene in Robocop, when he tries to kill Dick Jones? Yeah he was a real prick too. But Robocop could not break his programing, and that dude had a Human Brain! It was like that. Mega can point the Buster and threaten. But that's about it. As advance as Mega Man's A.I. was, able to make some choices for himself he was still a slave to his programing.
    That's what makes X so special. Dr. Light wanted him to be a real person, he wanted a son. So he made something more than a robot, something with complete free will, capable of random thoughts and actions, true autonomy. An absolute variable, hence the name "X". And though he did it begrudgingly, that included the ability to kill people. He knew he had to have that choice for his actions and decisions to have any meaning.
    If what you're saying is true, then X's existence is pointless because Dr. Light's been pumping these out since day one.

      Don't forget that Wily also created Bass, King, and Zero. Three some of the most powerful robots of their respected eras. I strongly do not believe MatPat played MegaMan. All of his information is wrong.
      Dr. Light did not let ProtoMan walk away. ProtoMan refused to allow Light to repair him and ran away. Light actually looked for him and believed he was dead. Protoman still refuses to be fixed............

I have played every MegaMan game from every series. Any fan like myself knows Mat is a liar because his information is just so wrong.
      Dr. Light did not let ProtoMan run away. ProtoMan does not want to be fixed, and ran away on his own freewill.

    The Japanese version of Mega Man 7 has Mega Man stop charging his buster after Wily reminds him that he cannot harm humans; which effects this theory significantly, as it suggests Mega Man's immunity to the three laws of Robotics was added in the English version. The stuff with the Mega Man 9 robots still applies, however, but keep in mind that Dr. Wily also modifies them to better suit his needs. The Mega Man X series establishes that the first completely autonomous robot was Mega Man X, establishing that all previous robots at least had some limitation on their autonomy, like the Three Laws (this is why Proto Man is not considered a Reploid like the robots in Mega Man X are).

    • @FoxTenson
      @FoxTenson 6 лет назад +19

      I think the more free will developing for mega man holds up even with that. He's shown gradual changes unlike other robots towards free will, if he had to stick to the three rules he would have never threatened in the first place. Being reminded stopping him still shows some sort of conscience and conflict. It really fits with his gradual growing "soul" and possible origin of X in him. X has been conflicted many times with his will, but thats something else. 8 also pokes at it during the ending, as things couldn't affect him if he lacked some sort of free will.
      Personally I think his true free will came about after 8. Dr light had many chances to use data from Duo, not to mention Duo's power used on megaman. 8 also kinda shows the possible origin of the zero virus but the games never go into TOO much story detail, so its mostly a theory. A GAME THEORY OH NO!

    • @AgentNine
      @AgentNine 6 лет назад +27

      Also: Megaman killing wily DOES NOT interfere with the laws of robotics. Theres is a 0th law: A robot may not harm humanity, or through inaction allow humanity to come to harm. Wily, although human, was a danger to humanity, and if Megaman didn't apprehend or in this case, kill Wily, that would be in violation of the 0th law.

    The scene where Megaman decides to kill Wily actually is covered under Asimov's laws, because there's an unwritten "zeroth" law, which supersedes all the others. "A robot may not harm HUMANITY, or through inaction allow HUMANITY to come to harm." If by killing one man a robot saves many lives, then the robot is not just ALLOWED to do so, it MUST do so. This is a dilemma Asimov himself addressed. So, it's actually possible that Megaman was following the laws of robotics. By killing Wily Megaman could save countless lives, so under the zeroth law he actually is required to kill the man. He's just following his programming.

      Hmm, they did create the MegaMan games ERGO they created all of the continuous conflict in the Mega Man series ERGO they are the true villains for making these games where robots in that universe terrorize humans.
      But wait, they recently are not making the games ERGO dissolving all the problems that have and will happen ERGO helping Mega Man in his quest for peace with the lack of robot attacks ERGO making them the good guys for putting an end to the cycle of destruction Mega Man has to prevent daily.
      And then the fans complain to Capcom about not making a new Mega Man game ERGO wanting another robot rampage to occur in the world of Mega Man ERGO not helping in the robot's cause for maintaining peace and happiness ERGO making them the bad guys for wanting more chaos for their entertainment value.
      Hmm, I don't know man; it's seems like us MM fans are the true villains here while Capcom are trying to atone for their deeds of putting Mega Man through endless cycle of violence in his games.

      Kind of both really.
      In terms of true villains and your joke about Capcom; the irony was not lost on me that while the fans really love the character, we also demand another game where Megaman has to risk his life to end yet another robot rampage that created untold amounts property damage, injuries and deaths in order to maintain a momentary peace only for the next game to repeat the same thing.
      It's like Last Action Hero: it is cool to see Jack Ryan go on these awesome adventures and kick some ass, until you realize he never really enjoys them due to how much it ruins his personal life.

    If I remembered correctly, the robots were not created with weapons.
    They had tools, but are later modified by Wily and turned into weapon grade arsenals. Almost all of the robots were industrial robots, except for Rock, Roll, and Zero. The fact that Wily mentioned that robots cannot harm humans, it means Light must have already had safety protocols similar to Asimov's laws in those other robots, except for Megaman who were meant to be as human as possible.
    Megaman's statement is actually an assertion of his ability to be able to judge what is right and wrong. Meaning he is not a slave to humanity, but as equals.
    BTW Asimov's laws are not air tight because a robot cannot judge what is considered harm or injury without very specific parameter. In fact the first law is the problem, because while it prevents a robot rebellion, it will make the robot non-functional quite often, which will be explained below.
    Okay, let's say I am in a mall with a gun pointed at my head by a lunatic who is about to shoot me. The first law dictates that the robots in the vicinity must help me, but the first law also stated that harming the guy holding a gun to my head is not allowed.
    Now a normal person with freewill will assess the situation and make a decision. Which decision or whether it is a good decision or not, it doesn't really matter. What matters is that a person with freewill can look at the other decision and say "screw it". However, a robot cannot do such things because it has no freewill due to Asimov's law.
    Lastly, the example about the autonomous turret. Is that suppose to be horrifying because the turret has freewill, or is it horrifying that it has the ability to kill without human pulling the trigger? Yet, the turret have no freewill and is following programming set by humans, essentially an obedient slave. Freewill is not the issue with that turret, it is how horrifying human beings can be when we act in fear that is the problem. The turret is only doing what we told it to do, and we did not give it freewill to question the orders.
    Freewill can be good or bad, and if we deem robots as loyal servants, then we first must question ourselves because we are the ones with the freewill to do so, not the robots.

    Fun video, and an interesting little hypothesis. However, there are some problems with it:
    1: Dr Light did NOT create all the Robot Masters in each game. Dr Wily created the ones in Mega Man 2, 5, 7, and 8, Dr Cossack created the ones in 4, and several scientists were the creators of the robots in Mega Man 6. Since so many of these robots were made by other people, you can't say that it was all Dr Light's fault that they went on a rampage. And keep in mind, Wily created many of these himself, making him share even more of the responsibility.
    2: It is heavily suggested by the overall plot that the type of autonomy Mega Man possesses is unique to him. Notice in the very scene that you use to prove your argument, Wily is shocked that Mega Man is able to decide for himself to blast him.. and this is in Mega Man 7, meaning that a whole lot of time has passed with Wily and Light messing around with robotics. If autonomy was something that all these robots had, why then is Wily surprised that Mega Man was able to make the decision he made? Even more, consider also that the ones in Mega Man 9 were going to accept their fates, and only went with Wily because he promised to fix them so they could keep on doing their intended purposes (by the way, note that many of these Masters are actually re-purposed utility/worker robots, only sticking with the jobs assigned and programed to them. What's more, the decision making abilities they have were specific to their job set and for commanding other less advanced robots for the projects they were made for - Guts Man, a construction robot, commanding a bunch of less advanced construction bots such as the mets - ; that's why they are called Robot Masters, actually. If they had the full autonomy Mega Man has, couldn't they have decided to do some other work, or be able to go against their programing?). They did NOT chose to go on a rampage, that only happened after he reprogrammed them. So if the autonomy that Mega Man possesses is unique to him, or at the very least is something that only a few of the robots have (such as Proto Man, Roll, and Bass), then that pretty much deflates the argument that all these rampages are Dr Light's fault because of all these robots having autonomy.
    Another point, though it's not really theory busting: Dr Light didn't actually just let Proto Man run off and not care about pursuing him. When Proto Man escaped, he was considered destroyed, thus there was no attempt to get him back. Dr wily later found and repaired him; that's how he was able to figure out how to reprogram the robots Dr Light made.
    So yeah, nice hypothesis, but it doesn't really hold up when one recalls the overall plot of the games. Still was a fun video though, and I like the other Game Theorists videos, so no biggie. :p

    • @AluwolfGamer
      @AluwolfGamer 10 лет назад +19

      none of his theories ever hold up, i don't get why people watch this garbage, and before people point out the obvious, yes I'm watching this because it's my first time watching his videos, but this is the third video i've watched and it's clear he has no clue what he's talking about on anything he covers.

    • @Swordsage
      @Swordsage 10 лет назад +9

      ***** Actually, to be fair, a theory is actually a fact, or as close to a fact as we can get, at least if we are talking about the strict definition of the word. This is why I called what he suggested a hypothesis. A hypothesis is something like an educated guess with some support for it (very simplistic definition, I know). A theory is a hypothesis that's been tested over and over to see if it holds up to scrutiny. Most people use the word theory, but actually mean hypothesis, or even just a guess.
      Anyway, just wanted to clear that up, though I do have to state again that I actually like these videos, even if they aren't always correct. They're interesting, and they're fun to watch. Plus, it's just fun to speculate about all these stories and background stuff in video games. We don't always have to be right when it comes to fun speculation, it just has to make some sort of sense.

    • @Swordsage
      @Swordsage 10 лет назад

      Erik Dillon
      True, though I don't dispute that in my post. Also, keep in mind that (as you yourself just pointed out) Wily also helped make the Robot Master's in 3, so again, you can't really say it's all Light's fault. Even if we were to decide that somehow, because Light had a hand in creating those robots, it is his fault, that's just one game, not the whole run of the series. So the hypothesis here still doesn't hold up.

    One huge flaw: Light never ignored the law. The only reason Protoman can think for himself is due to an error in his system (same reason he ran away too.)
    Megaman 1's robot masters were built to obay humans and were made as utility robots and had their weapons (And likely robot ethics) modified by Dr. Wily for evil, they originally did nothing dangerous at all.

    OBJECTION!
    Game Theory, I realize this is merely an entertaining video, but your basis of information is the anomaly that is the English ending of Megaman 7 that most fans don't consider canon because Megaman acts out of character, and it also is different from the original Japanese ending.
    Before 7's ending and after it, it's repeatedly stated that Megaman is a pacifist FORCED to fight, and yes, clearly bound by the rules of robotics if you look at all the actions he did in every other Megaman classic title.
    Megaman only wanted to kill Wily in the English version of the game - something added by Capcom USA, not the original creators.
    In the original Japanese version, he merely threatens Wily, and then when Dr. Wily reminds him that robots cannot harm humans, he lowers his buster and stands down, rather than saying that he's "more than a robot", like in the English version.
    It's sort of ridiculous to count edits made by a localization team as canon, especially when the original creators never agreed to the changes. Keiji Inafune has stated he was personally displeased with the ending of 7, and even the original threat against Wily was not his doing.

It puts and interesting and dark spin on a character that everybody knows as a cookie-cutter good guy. And raises interesting questions, allowing for fun theories like the one in this video. And who says the Japanese way is the right way, anyhow? All of the Mega Man games and cartoons he referenced in the video were American/English adaptations. Maybe he wasn't talking about the Japanese Mega Man. Maybe Rockman and Mega Man are two wholly different ideas because of this. Woah. I was about to divide by zero there. Sorry.

    • @Xhosant
      @Xhosant 10 лет назад +5

      According to the wiki, the Japanese ending did make mention of the rules of robotics, so we've at least established their existence. So that's that.
      Also, (although not as clear-cut as the 7 English ending) Protoman broke rule 3 by escaping, as he disregarded his creator's will to repair him in order to "survive" (as he believed). And at the same time, Megaman volunteers to a course of action that would weaponize him, which to me seems like a breach of rule 1.
      What I'm getting at is this: Although the (non-cannon) ending of 7 made a very clear case of the rules being established and disregarded, there's arguably proof in the cannon that the rules exist, and at least Proto and Mega can bend them.
      Besides, the company's objection was how lousily the character was represented, no breach of cannon ;)

      Which ability of Astro's would Megaman take though? The ability to fly, maybe?
      Also, I thought maybe they would be on the same side, but then I realised they'd probably come to a head simply because Megaman fights against bad robots, whereas Astroboy fights for peace between humans and robots, especially robot rights.

    Buuuut Light only made Proto, Rock, Roll, and the original 6/8 masters (depends on if you believe powered up is canon). Also, X was the first robot with free will (and I guess zero as well), so these robots still had the laws of robotics at the time. Dr. Light in fact tried really hard to make sure X had a conscience by storing him for 30 years (and stayed for 70 more)

    Here's a couple of reasons why this video is wrong:
    1. Dr. Willy is clearly the bad guy, but bot because of the whole German stereotype bullshit, but because he legitimately wants to take over the world.
    2. Megaman wanted to be a combat robot, but he was programed with the rules of robotics in mind (don't hurt people). You hear Dr. Light say "Fight for everlasting peace."
    3. what do Korean turrets have to do with anything its fucking megaman
    4. Megaman is a series from the 80's, and games from that time were marketed towards kids. Although stuff got dark like in Megaman X, it's still Megaman. A robot boy off to save the world from an evil scientist.

      Wily is obviously the villain, but if it wasn't for Light he couldn't. Light basically put a gun in the hands of a serial killer.
      In the beginning of the video, Megaman flat out tries to MURDER Wily.
      But hey, it's just game theory, The show where you take a lighthearted game and turn it into a moral dilemma.

      Yes, Megaman did try to murder Wily. After 7 games worth of robots destroying the city and endangering lives,
      he probably felt it best to end the problem at its source. Acting in the best interest of the world. It's still a dangerous first step, but can you honestly say if you were in his position you wouldn't felt the same way / acted the same way?
      Also I call bull on this all being Lights fault. Wily and Light built the first 6 robot masters for practical uses.
      Ice Man - Refrigeration
      Guts Man - Construction
      Bomb Man - Demolition
      etc...
      Wily went all evil and reprogrammed them. Wily built the robot masters after that point and they were all programmed to further his goal of conquest. Sorry, that isn't Light's fault.

In 1 they were reprogrammed Doctor Light robots, in 3, a "Reformed" Wily worked with Doctor Light to build both the robot masters and the final giant robot Gamma. In Mega Man 4, Wily held Doctor Cossacks' daughter hostage and forced him to build robots to beat mega man. In Mega Man 9, Wily used his wits to corral Other Doctor Light made robots into helping him due to their expiration date. Well..with the exception of Mega Man 6, those were stolen by Wily, made by unknown scientists and then modified by Wily under the guise of Mr. X

    • @misterprofessor5038
      @misterprofessor5038 10 лет назад +4

      I suppose the question to ask is: Would we program those three laws into humans if we could? In regards to other humans and not robots of course.
      Humans enforce laws and nurture one another to be as good and kind to one another as possible, but is this the way it was supposed to be or is this a consolation for not being able to go one step further? If you could guarantee safety by restricting human freedom to commit violent acts, would you?

    • @BlueEyesandCompany
      @BlueEyesandCompany 10 лет назад

      True true, though it might be better to avoid building robots all together or at least give them code that might put human life as something important, or life in general as something important. In the end, if we decide to create true A.I. we need to think about what we're doing, creating even, and what we need to do to prevent damage to life on Earth as a whole.

    • @HarryMadigan
      @HarryMadigan 10 лет назад

      We can't program robots as humans, because human minds are erratic, we think and feel, and both of them can interfere with each other. An A.I. programed as a human will eventually learn to feel, restarting the cycle, making imperfect beings, making artificial life, and will learn how to make more (Terminator somewhere?). Robotics is a dangerous root of science, simple robots are useful, but a small mistake on A.I. improvement, and the worst nightmare of movies can become true.

    • @seigeengine
      @seigeengine 10 лет назад

      MisterProfessor Some might. I consider such unethical. Laws should never be absolute, because our morality largely isn't, and shouldn't be drawn from law. Similarly, there are no rules without exceptions.
      I also disagree with you that kindness and goodness are the goals of law, or the results of how we nurture each other. Law serves to protect society, and it's members, and the results of social interaction are highly variable.
      I wouldn't, and if anyone tried to do so, I would happily kill them should I find myself able to. Tyranny, regardless of intentions, is unacceptable.

    Normally, I'm inclined to think at length on these topics, especially since such a good case is put forth. However, I can't agree at all on this theory. What's being argued here is purely semantics. Dr. Light created a series of androids with autonomy, but NOT, as was stated, without ethical programming. Rock and Blues were experimental exceptions to this as Light wanted to see how a robot without a specific purpose would adapt to human life. Blues chose to "escape" and find his own path whereas Rock acted more like a child would and chose to see Light as a father and act that way. Both, though, exhibited strong ethical tendencies (Blues, though rebellious, usually did the right thing even so far as to end up being a major ally to Megaman in his fight against Wily). The incident at the end of MM7 was the case of Megaman finally being pushed too far and acting like an angry teenager. In summary, Light built some robots who's "purpose" was to be human.
    Now, had you said that Light was responsible for the Reploid uprisings in the X series, then I would be more inclined to believe it. Dr. Light did build X with the full intention of him being absolutely free willed. Dr.Cain, having found X some years later in stasis then used X as a template to create the Reploids and, ultimately, Sigma. And we all know what happened with Sigma there. Though, it could be argued that Wily was just as much at fault when he created Zero as a means to infect all other robots with a virus that caused a sort of induced robot madness and eventually infecting Sigma as well.
    But, really, this is all just like blaming the person who invented the spear for every war ever fought and the deaths that have occurred because of it.

    • @Kunosachiaka
      @Kunosachiaka 10 лет назад

      I didn't like how he grabbed the entirely free will of Proto Man and Mega Man then applied that to every other Robot Master out there, implying they all have the ability to kill humans which none of them ever even considered.
      Also the fact that Mega Man and Proto Man both had human-like ethics, pretty much means Dr. Light created...basically humans. Sure they're stronger than a normal human, but put some body armor on a guy and give him a gun and you essentially have Mega Man. So really, if because of what happened in MM7 makes Dr. Light a bad person for creating something with the potential to kill human beings, then does that mean this video is implying all parents, mothers and fathers, are bad people for also creating something with the potential to kill human beings?

    Once you decided to go and use the well-known, purposeful mistranslation of MM7's ending to support your views this video became nonsense. Originally, Rock wanted to kill Wily, but couldn't due to his programming. Dr. Light gave Rock free will except when it regards the three laws you listed. This is very apparent when it comes to direct translations of the games.
    Oh no, Dr. Light made 14 of the 78 robot masters! They had tools meant to quickly and efficiently complete work that's dangerous for humans, but could easily be used as weapons! It's his fault that these machines were tampered or fooled with for destructive purposes! He's the bad guy of the entire series, and he's the one behind all 78 robot masters getting controlled by Wily!
    No. Other than Rock, Roll, Protoman, and X, Dr. Light didn't make a single robot with free will until MegaMan 9. Even then, Protoman was the only one that didn't follow the three listed laws--an oversight in his first attempt to advance robotics--and the MegaMan 9 robot masters weren't convinced to do evil acts, either. They were convinced to allow Wily to "repair" them, as he promised no nefarious intentions. They still followed the laws you listed. It was self-preservation that didn't conflict with the previous two laws.
    Altogether, this video is full of misinformation and logical holes.

    Dr. Light is not the villain. Wily is. Obviously. I see what youre saying, but Dr. Light is just a dumb ass who made a mistake. A mistake he tried to fix. He is not responsible for someone elses actions. He is responsible for creating a scenario that COULD allow such a thing to happen, but he is not responsible for it happening.
    All you do in game theory anymore is just pick one of the protagonists and try to pin them as a villain. Its getting a little old, and its becoming less effective, as shown in this video. Interested to see how many more there will be of the same type

      Dr. Light is partially responsible for the consequences of his creations, because he did in fact, know that it could happen, by giving them autonomy. Those things wouldn't have happened if Dr. Light just stuck to the roboethics. If he had, there is no way that they could have been convinced to do something other than what they were programmed to. If they in some moment do something that they were not programmed to do, then and only then is the responsibility taken off Dr. Light. But he gave them free will, so he must take the responsibility of allowing his creations to make erroneous decisions harmful to mankind, regardless of who convinced them.

    no, in the grand scheme, Dr. Wily is still the villain, because most of the Robot Masters were built by him and thus designed them for destruction. the Robot Masters Dr. Light built were made to help humans, and in both cases where Light's robots were the enemies, Wily had reprogrammed them to serve his purposes, while only in MM9 were the robots persuaded to his side. also worth mention is that in the end to MM9, Dr. Light found new purposes for his expired robots. while Light may be partially responsible for Robot Masters going bad, most of the blame can still be placed on Wily

    It's worse than this video implies. EVERYTHING in the Megaman, X, Zero, ZX, and Legends series, all of the mavericks, retirements, massacres, civil wars, world wars, apocalypses, etc, all of those are because Doctor Light did it AGAIN when he made X, and because Doctor Cain copied Light's work.

    • @r6srider
      @r6srider 10 лет назад +6

      not all of it, x was sealed in a capsule to test his morality for 30 years before he could be released, though something went wrong and lights lab was buried for 100 years, cain (an archaeologist) copied x's design making sigma, meanwhile zero (created by wily who is carrying around wilys personality in digital form) is activated and wilys' personality (also known as the maverick virus.) When sigma shows up to fight a mysterious robot (zero) the virus transfers to sigma, which is where the megaman x series starts.

      Taking everything to its logical extreme, isn't light suspicious for knowing everything that went wrong? I mean, how did he know where to put the capsules for compatible armors in bases of mavericks X was going to fight at that time? How could he predict that at the same crisis, there was a random cave that was going to be taken over by a maverick as well as in a sunken ship in the middle of nowhere? Maybe this is light trying to take responsibility for his action at the end of his life...

    An ethical possibility for Megaman deciding to off Wily in the seventh game could be the same as Zero being able to fight and kill Dr. Weil in Megaman Zero 4, "fighting for those he believes in" aside. Asimov's 0th Law of Robotics, which states (probably get a little of this wrong) that robots cannot through action or inaction allow harm to fall upon humanity as whole, as in if there was a threat to the entire human race. If said threat was by chance a human, and said human was intent on destroying humanity, a robot would be free to ignore laws one, two, and three in order to ensure humanity's survival. Megaman likely recognized the neverending process of Wily trying for world domination, thus countless lives being lost even if he was stopped each time, and decided that Wily's death would prevent the eventual destruction of humanity.

    • @ArctheLadder
      @ArctheLadder 10 лет назад +10

      The events of the game would support this reading, because the property damage in populated urban areas being literally shown in Mega Man 7's intro and intro stage and intermission is unprecedented in a Mega Man game.

    • @videogamefan101
      @videogamefan101 10 лет назад +4

      Exactly. And 7 was the debut of Bass and Treble, the battle robots made to counter Megaman, a robot originally not meant for battle who volunteered to save the populace from Wily's schemes. While Rock's strength has been shown and proven time and again, by design he wasn't meant for combat. Bass and Treble were, and seeing how strong they were likely gave Megaman another viable reason to end Wily's life. If Wily made more Robot Masters like them, not only would more people die, but eventually Megaman himself would be overwhelmed and destroyed by them, leaving the world without a protector against Wily.

      Judge Eternus No 0th law is even required, just a programming of the laws that is far-sighted enough to take the effect of future events into.
      That is to say, if taking an action (aka, killing Wily) will cause harm to a human, but NOT taking an action (aka, NOT killing Wily) will cause more total harm, then the greatest net benefit to human life is to shoot the bastard in the head and the robot would actually be incapable of not killing Wily.

    By using that logic Alfred Noble is responsible for every time TNT was used kill or destroy something. The problem with that argument (and lets be real here it's a stupid one) is that it takes responsibility away from the the person who used the items for those purposes. If I were to write a book and someone took it an beat someone to death with it does that me me responsible for the murder? No it doesn't. Just because someone makes something it doesn't mean that they are responsible for the actions it was used for. The only person responsible is the person who committed the act, not the person who created the object.
    And before someone tries to argue the gun thing, just remember that in that case, no the creator isn't responsible. It was created to kill, yes, but you have to wonder if the creator wanted to make it in the first place. Even if he did, that doesn't mean that ultimately it's his fault. It's the fault of the people who use that thing. Nothing more, nothing less.

    • @thisizmyname1
      @thisizmyname1 10 лет назад +1

      I completely agree, and it brings up the points about why its wrong to accuse video games when someone who played them becomes violent. The game didn't do it, the person did because they were nuts. Anything can be called a weapon and even used as one, but that does not make it so. It makes the one who used it wrongly guilty.

    • @MrNagagon
      @MrNagagon 10 лет назад

      But there's a little bit of difference. Noble didn't make every TNT stick in existence, he created the principal and the recipe to make them. Also, the argument here is not wether or not these robots can kill (let's be honest, anything can kill a human, even a piece of paper) but rather his irresponsability in creating machines with autonomy and his complete disregard for the Asimov's laws. They exist because creating AI is close to creating life, except without the process of experiencing life and learning right from wrong. Our years of living made us who we are and thus, we can judge right from wrong (in theory, some don't really do that). But a machine like Rock man has the body and autonomy of an adult, but the knowledge and experience of a child, being easily manipulated. Had Light incorporated Asimov's laws into their programming, none of this would have happened, since they would refuse Willy's order to follow him and be reprogrammed to fight humans.
      And I agree with the gun thing, but remember: tools might be created to serve specific purposes, but just because a chair is for sitting doesn't mean I can't beat you in the head.

    • @Brandwein42
      @Brandwein42 10 лет назад

      It´s one case if the object can be used by other humans for those purposes. But those robots carry the danger of free will themselfes and don´t rely on other humans. And Light programmed this specifically. Scientists are maybe not responsible for the knowledge they produce, because that can be used by anyone, but in my opinion they ARE responsible for the objects they produced themself. Light gave those created things out of his own control on his own will and thus allowed the robots to do their own things. It´s a thin line, but responsibility is not a objective matter anyhow. Another matter is of course the sole creation of LIVE, if you want to call the robots alive.

    • @Mr1991bbk
      @Mr1991bbk 10 лет назад +1

      see the problem with your analogies is that all of them only include things that don't have free will. It is like saying that if you raise a child, teach them so that they only know how to use tnt, give them an unlimited supply of tnt, tell them that they're only to blow up rocks with it, then they go on a massacre and you aren't responsible for it in any way whatsoever. Even though you were the one that gave a being of free will only the information to blow stuff up and then let them just go wherever they wanted. Also, of course Alfred Noble isn't responsible for tnt being used to kill, he made the knowledge to make the tnt, it is the person that made each piece of tnt that the responsibility falls on. Lastly, of course the creator of the weapon holds some responsibility, if you are going to make something that kills, you have to live the rest of your life that knowing that something that you have made has or is going to take a life.

    • @ReaMasterMango
      @ReaMasterMango 10 лет назад +2

      Yes, but these robots aren't books, it's more like you make a book with guns on it and someone shoot someone with it, then it's a mistake and not your fault, but after that you don't take any responsability and makes more books with guns on it. THIS makes you guilty. And it is what light did, but with robots.

  • @fsujs
    @fsujs 10 лет назад +11

    The reason I will never take a single one of your videos seriously is due to the fact that you either do very poor research on the topics you cover, or you purposefully omit information just to try to strengthen your point. You ignored the fact that the robots created by Light, are designed for specific jobs, mind you not all of them are common ones, but they all had a reason they were built, so people should have to worry about a robot designed to cut and wield in a construction environment, only as much a human that decides to go on a rampage with construction tools or vehicles. Also if memory serves, Wily actually did create, not reprogram, his own robots in several of the games. Also, you failed to mention that Wily created something known as the Roboenza virus which causes robots to become incredibly violent, and lose all ambition of whether or not they kill humans.
    I can appreciate that you try to look at things from a different perspective, devil's advocate, all that jazz. It's just when you do such a sorry job with the actual facts, I lose all respect for what you're try to doing.
