An intereresting point from history is that the first time Everton went down it was with a 22-year old Dixie Dean sandwiched between some awesome seasons for him and the club.
Ultimately it seems like the problem lies with Moshiri, hiring a director of football yet constantly undermining him with his own incompetent decisions, although you rely on him for finance so you might have to put up with him for now. Hope yous survive anyway.

They had a few chances to sign Eddie Howe as manager over the years. Young, experienced and attacking minded. It was always obvious to me and always said so. I cant believe that professionals in the football board and management could have such poor judgement. I think Frank Lampard will be good for the future. Lots of terrible signings like Iwobi and Prickford who are regularly getting games is a big reason. Prickford in particular is a championship standard keeper with one of the highest error rates since he joined the club. People look at him with rose tinted glasses from the NT performances (which aren't great when you look at it critically and objectively). Terrible distribution, very poor communication and inability to organise and command his back 4 which is why they leak goals for fun.

They can see the play unfold and assess the situation quickly and accurately to make the right decisions. Prickford does not do that. He is often caught out of position or ball watching instead of issuing instructions. He isn't particularly vocal and doesn't command or exude an aura of confidence or reliability and that definitely leads the defence to look so wonky, out of shape and disorganised. Granted, a lot of the Everton defence is out of form but a lot of that is due to the poor cohesion and organisation - which is largely influenced by the keeper. A great example is the 3-2 loss to Burnley earlier in the month. Burnley's second goal - they win the ball by the touchline, in the middle third. There is a good amount of time for Prickford to assess the situation and issue instructions to the back 4 to pick up and mark players. Instead he sets himself up to defend a long range shot that never comes and is subsequently out of position with an open net because the ball finds a loose Burnley player who easily taps it home for the equaliser. A similar situation then played out for the Burnley winner. Lampard surely has to pull the trigger and make the switch before it's too late. Prickford was absolutely woeful when Sunderland were relegated back in 2016(?) but was forgiven by many as he was young at the time and English. He's basically doing the same here and being exposed again but escaping scrutiny which is mad! For mine, he's got to be the biggest underperformer getting regular games. For the price paid, he should be doing far better but given the inflation of home grown players, he was never going to live up to the price tag

Here's the problem. The manager builds tactics and the team. He alone should be the one saying I want this player, that player is not performing, ship him out. What it seems to me, following the situation, is that Everton had a chap who wasn't the manager making decisions on players the manager didn't want , and the manager had to suck it up.- which has caused the obvious tension as the managers have got the flack for poor performances of those players. The manager always carries the can, hiring Benitez was a huge mistake by the owner as obviously no idea of how deep rooted the rivalry with the Reds goes….. it will take a long time to sort the backroom problems out and rebuild a "Band of Brothers"….. Wayne Rooney was the obvious choice but I expect he could see (at this stage) it was a poison chalice and in any case his ethics tied him to Derby. What a job he has done there amongst all that shit he had to deal with……. he will be a great manager someday as he inspires the dressing room.

- Lack of Patience
- A zest of short term vision
- A straw of miscommunication between the owners, the board, the tecnical staff and the manager.

Lampard out of his depth
Lots of terrible signings like Iwobi and Prickford who are regularly getting games is a big reason. Prickford in particular is a championship standard keeper with one of the highest error rates since he joined the club. People look at him with rose tinted glasses from the NT performances (which aren't great when you look at it critically and objectively). Terrible distribution, very poor communication and inability to organise and command his back 4 which is why they leak goals for fun.
Granted at club level he’s been atrocious, but every time he sticks an England top on, he looks class. Slab head’s the same
Pickford's been really good for us in the last two seasons, he just gets let down by his shit defence
@@jamesbirkenhead876 the problem with him is a good keeper organises and communicates with their defence as they can see the field of play. They can see the play unfold and assess the situation quickly and accurately to make the right decisions. Prickford does not do that. He is often caught out of position or ball watching instead of issuing instructions. He isn't particularly vocal and doesn't command or exude an aura of confidence or reliability and that definitely leads the defence to look so wonky, out of shape and disorganised. Granted, a lot of the Everton defence is out of form but a lot of that is due to the poor cohesion and organisation - which is largely influenced by the keeper. A great example is the 3-2 loss to Burnley earlier in the month. Burnley's second goal - they win the ball by the touchline, in the middle third. There is a good amount of time for Prickford to assess the situation and issue instructions to the back 4 to pick up and mark players. Instead he sets himself up to defend a long range shot that never comes and is subsequently out of position with an open net because the ball finds a loose Burnley player who easily taps it home for the equaliser. A similar situation then played out for the Burnley winner.
Lampard surely has to pull the trigger and make the switch before it's too late. Prickford was absolutely woeful when Sunderland were relegated back in 2016(?) but was forgiven by many as he was young at the time and English. He's basically doing the same here and being exposed again but escaping scrutiny which is mad! For mine, he's got to be the biggest underperformer getting regular games. For the price paid, he should be doing far better but given the inflation of home grown players, he was never going to live up to the price tag

They have never bought well, they've just overspent on players past it, while getting chump change for the juniors they develop.
