Without having an actual movie star as a parent, Bryan MacLean probably still qualifies as Hollywood offspring. His dad was an "architect for the stars" who designed homes for Liz Taylor and Dean Martin and was good friends with Robert Stack. MacLean's childhood girlfriend was Liza Minelli, whom you did mention.

Over the years , I've thought of them as many things , important isn't one of them . I shared the stage with them years ago at a Nudist Colony in Michigan , when they appeared with Mitch Ryder as " The Rock & Roll Army " . My band No Busfare Johnson & the Bustones opened the show . I now go as Durango . Life is no doubt filled with tantalizing mysteries .

I looked her up and it seems she never charted nationally but the 1965 song, It Happens In The Same Old Way released on the Vee Jay Records is a pleasing pop song. Vee Jay Records had one foot in the grave by this time so I doubt she was getting much radio or store promotions.

These thugs would destroy any and all film equipment to stop rivals who refused to pay. Kind of a semi-legal protection racket. The early movie studios would relocate to Hollywood as much for the better weather but also to be as far away from the Edison monster.
Terry Melcher was the target of Manson however he had moved from that house. Also the Sales brothers started in the 60s but became part of David Bowie's band Tin Machine

My understanding is that a good part of the appeal of Los Angeles is that the natural sunlight was great for filming; you didn't need bulky, expensive and extremely hot arc lamps and the like. A lot of those comedic silent shorts were filmed outside although the sets were designed to look like they were indoors.
Melcher was more than peripherally involved with Manson, he's the one who introduced the Beach Boys to the Manson Family. Also, that girl band that the Runaways was based on said Melcher brought them out to the farm the Manson family lived on to ride their horses and they felt terrified and trapped out there. The Spahn Ranch! Yeah Melcher was actually very deeply involved with Manson for quite some time before the killings.
After the incident at Cielo Drive, Melcher would never be the same and would have to look over his shoulder not knowing if Manson or the Family would eventually come looking for him.

Kidnappers were caught after the fact, sentenced to long terms but in several cases released early. Frank Jr. was an understudy with the Duke Ellington Band as a teenager, musically, played bars & dance halls, opened for more famous acts & so on.... Guest Hosted the Dean Martin Show with his sister Nancy... appeared in small & big screen... critically acclaimed vocalist of American Songbook Classics.

I always thought it was interesting that Al Kooper wrote and recorded This Diamond Ring. Al's cut was more funky than the GL & the Playboys version. Equally fascinating is that the Gary Lewis version was produced by Leon Russel.
How about singer/keyboardist Larry Tamblyn (son of actor Eddie, brother of Russ) of the Standells? Seven charting singles (only one top 40 though), which makes him more than a one-hit wonder. I'll also note Jack Jones, who had 26(!) charting singles in the 1960s, although he was more of a big band crooner than pop star or rock musician; his dad was musician and actor Allan Jones.

Thought you might be interested in 2 books by a fellow named Ron Hall. "History of Memphis Garage Bands" Volumes I & 2. There's much more in these books than just "Garage Bands". Some very interesting history covering the late 50's through the mid 70's with the main emphasis on mid-60's.

Didn't Peter Fonda inspire John Lennon's "She Said?" He freaked John out at a party by going on and on about knowing what it's like to be dead, until Lennon had him thrown out.
I think it was at a house in the Hollywood Hills in August, 1965. Fonda was there with McGuinn and Crosby of The Byrds. I don't think McCartney was there, although Eleanor Bron reportedly was.
Taking it into the 1970's (with 60's ties)----" Silverspoon" had Carol Burnett's son Joey Hamilton on lead vocals, Jose Ferrer & Rosemary Clooney's son, Miguel Ferrer in drums, and guitar player Jimmy Haymer, son of film character actor/MASH cast member Johnny Haymer. "You Hurt Me So" is the best example of their work. Mal Evans tried his hand at producing them.

Dan Duryea's other son, Peter, was an actor with a bunch of credits in the 60's. A while back I read an internet blog by the son of Sgt Zale from the "Mash' TV show (I'm too lazy to look him up). He told how he was to be an original member of 'The Knack' but he shared a girlfriend with another member who blackballed him. I think he mentioned he was in other bands with other Hollywood kids.
Opposite Doris Day in Pajama Game was John Raitt, father of Bonnie Raitt (so I guess she and Melcher may have crossed paths). Better known from 70s but she was starting up in late 60s.

I forgot Kim Fowley, whose parents were actors. He and Gary Paxton put out 'Alley Oop' as the Hollywood Argyles. He later managed The Runaways and (unfortunately) wrote a lot of awful songs with Skip Battin, some of which wound up on latter-day Byrds records.
Spencer Dryden, the nephew of Charlie Chaplin! I had no idea. The Airplane claimed they found him playing at a strip club. Like his uncle, he had a thing for the ladies. He romanced Grace Slick, and took over the band.
If you haven't read it already, you might want to check out the book "Chaos" by Tom O'Neill. Terry Melcher appeared to be much more heavily involved in the Manson-Tate murders. Or should I say he was more involved in the cover-up of those murders.
Dennis Wilson tried to interest Melcher. Wilson later rewrote Manson's 'Cease To Exist' as 'Never Learn Not To Love' off '20/20'. There's speculation that Manson wasn't happy with that.

The Clingers! Look up the Clingers, they inspired the Runaways later on. Look for their Manson Family stories.

Two great Dan Duryea movies available on YT are The Black Angel and Scarlet Street. A great introduction to Film Noir, if you're new to that genre.

Frank Jr. was an understudy with the Duke Ellington Band as a teenager, musically, played bars & dance halls, opened for more famous acts & so on.... Guest Hosted the Dean Martin Show with his sister Nancy... appeared in small & big screen... critically acclaimed vocalist of American Songbook Classics.
Frank Jr. was kidnapped by an acquaintance of Jan Berry and Dean Torrence helping derail their career.
@@thomasrobinson182 Yeah, a guy named Barry Keenan who they'd gone to High School with & was close to Dean Torrence. The Defence theory was that Torrence had leant $$$ to Keenan to pull off the Kidnapping, and that it was really all just a "Publicity Stunt" with Frank Sinatra Jr. in on it as the publicity would help to boost his career. Absolute $^&# Show of a situation however in the wake of the Kidnapping & Frank Jr.'s release, he did get a boost, appearing on the Ed Sullivan Show & opening for the Beatles if memory serves. Jan & Dean did go on to continued success for a time however your absolutely correct, being named as a "Financier" of so despicable an "event" pretty serious career killer. Jan Berry was apparently unaware of it all & mightily upset, Dean Torrance on the other hand, well... this is why its wise to pick your friends carefully, and when they reach their late teen or adult stage & come to you with whatever illicit schemes, shut them down, cut it off. Keenan's life & mind unwinding, Jan & Dean's who were both attending University while Rocketing to fame & fortune crippled as a result.

I always thought it was interesting that Al Kooper wrote and recorded This Diamond Ring. Al's cut was more funky than the GL & the Playboys version. Equally fascinating is that the Gary Lewis version was produced by Leon Russel.

How about singer/keyboardist Larry Tamblyn (son of actor Eddie, brother of Russ) of the Standells? Seven charting singles (only one top 40 though), which makes him more than a one-hit wonder.
I'll also note Jack Jones, who had 26(!) charting singles in the 1960s, although he was more of a big band crooner than pop star or rock musician; his dad was musician and actor Allan Jones.

Thought you might be interested in 2 books by a fellow named Ron Hall. "History of Memphis Garage Bands" Volumes I & 2. There's much more in these books than just "Garage Bands". Some very interesting history covering the late 50's through the mid 70's with the main emphasis on mid-60's.

Didn't Peter Fonda inspire John Lennon's "She Said?" He freaked John out at a party by going on and on about knowing what it's like to be dead, until Lennon had him thrown out.
I think it was at a house in the Hollywood Hills in August, 1965. Fonda was there with McGuinn and Crosby of The Byrds. I don't think McCartney was there, although Eleanor Bron reportedly was.

Michael Chaplin recorded a single called "I Am What I Am". 1965.
Taking it into the 1970's (with 60's ties)----" Silverspoon" had Carol Burnett's son Joey Hamilton on lead vocals, Jose Ferrer & Rosemary Clooney's son, Miguel Ferrer in drums, and guitar player Jimmy Haymer, son of film character actor/MASH cast member Johnny Haymer. "You Hurt Me So" is the best example of their work. Mal Evans tried his hand at producing them.

Dan Duryea's other son, Peter, was an actor with a bunch of credits in the 60's.
A while back I read an internet blog by the son of Sgt Zale from the "Mash' TV show (I'm too lazy to look him up). He told how he was to be an original member of 'The Knack' but he shared a girlfriend with another member who blackballed him. I think he mentioned he was in other bands with other Hollywood kids.

I forgot Kim Fowley, whose parents were actors. He and Gary Paxton put out 'Alley Oop' as the Hollywood Argyles. He later managed The Runaways and (unfortunately) wrote a lot of awful songs with Skip Battin, some of which wound up on latter-day Byrds records.

Spencer Dryden, the nephew of Charlie Chaplin! I had no idea. The Airplane claimed they found him playing at a strip club. Like his uncle, he had a thing for the ladies. He romanced Grace Slick, and took over the band.
If you haven't read it already, you might want to check out the book "Chaos" by Tom O'Neill. Terry Melcher appeared to be much more heavily involved in the Manson-Tate murders. Or should I say he was more involved in the cover-up of those murders.
Yes, my friend is loaning me that book and I do know Melcher lied under oath so it should be interesting reading.

Dennis Wilson tried to interest Melcher. Wilson later rewrote Manson's 'Cease To Exist' as 'Never Learn Not To Love' off '20/20'. There's speculation that Manson wasn't happy with that.
