this is a generational song, you come across a song like this once every 20 years. for me this has been my favorite song of all time. I'm glad it got the recognition it deserves.
I’m a metal and hard rock fan, but I really enjoy The Weeknd. His extraordinary vocal talent along with his melodic and instrumentation choices are just so great to listen to. Thank you for the video.
The Weeknd's voice is so amazing. I used to be one of the purists who only raved about his early trilogy mixtapes but his more poppy later phase grew on me. I appreciate both sounds now.
He's a generational talent, closest we've got to MJ expect Abel even takes it to greater heights with the world's and the stories he create, especially with the trilogy that we're currently waiting for the final part!
GREAT reaction/analysis Beth!! I'm typically a rock, metal, prog guy, but I love anything that can make me move - and this song epitomizes that (much like MJ's Billie Jean!). This song immediately grabbed my attention - the groove and his voice - WOW! I first got into The Weeknd from his collaboration with Daft Punk on Starboy (would be good for a reaction!). I love the music he creates - and it doesn't hurt that he's a fellow Canadian! Cheers!
Get a grip. Martin's team did most of the leg work. Martin likely spent little time on this compared to The Weeknd and the rest. Stop trying bro take away credit from The Weeknd because what you wrote can be applied to virtually every artist with a hit song. And this video is about The Weeknd's singing delivery. Did Martin have anything to do with that?
The first time (and SEVERAL times after that!!) I heard one of The Weeknd's other songs "I feel it coming", I seriously was convinced, that it was a previously unreleased song by Michael Jackson!! 😳 😅
Talking about Siousxsie and the banshees he actually sampled them in some of his earliest work. On his track House of balloons/ glass table girls for his first ever mixtape house of balloons he sampled happy house
Me gustan tus reacciones asía la música retro me ponen de buen humor no se que disfruto más si escuchar esta bonita música o ver tu bellos ojos bien Beth 👏👏 🍀🍀
I may be doing him a dis-service, I'd always assumed there was some AutoTune in there... Thanks for choosing the VMA performance for this review, it's an impressive piece of staging!
First time I heard this song I was super confused, like it was very 80's but not completely, it also sounded modern at the same time. I have not heard it before so I was sure it was not 80's hit but it sounded too 80 to be new... I had to google it and was shocked when found out it was a new song.
Please do paramore all I wanted live, they never used to perform it much because I Hayley Williams wasn’t confident performing it live, but I’m so glad that’s not the case anymore
Also...something that niggles at my brainstem when I watch a reaction/analysis video, is when the host refers to certain segments of a song, an *"ad lib"* Can something truly be considered an, *ad lib* if it is used in studio AND regularly on stage?
Don't know if you've reacted lately to Lucy Thomas but she's recently dropped a cover of Unchained Melody you might want to have a listen to, she also has 3 live videos on her channel from her very first Concert that took place in Manchester.
Loved this song when it came out...upbeat, nice voice, good visuals, clever audio, etc. Yeah...there's autotune+ but that's today's music....don't mind it if it adds to the experience.
don't get me wrong i like some of "his" songs. But in the singing spectrum who the hell is he??? I quoted his because we know most artists don't even write their songs. Same with most singers today. Who is Taylor Swift? I'll give away Lady Gaga, i think she's good, but in the last 20 years who has come up (i'm not mentioning Dimash's and those like him who don't have representation in global sales) that can be considered a singer that will always be remembered???? yep.........
I dunno. Never understood the popularity of this song. It just sounds so, for the lack of a better word, redundant. I keep feeling like it's filled with major parts of other songs from the mid 70s or mid 80s, but cant put a finger on which? The familiarity is maddening. And not a fan of that tinny (almost vocoder) sounding type of vocalizations. **edit** Couldn't tell you what other songs he has..I almost never listen to pop radio stations anymore. And the few times I do, the lack of originality between songs usually sends me to the tuner, or the off switch.
Something is wrong with your audio, every time you pause and talk there is like a thumping noise for a couple of seconds. Horrible to listen to on headphones
To do a vocal analysis of this performance, praise the *difficulty* of it, and just completely ignore the obvious use of autotune (and other effects) throughout the entire number, is disappointing and makes the analysis not credible at all. These tools make it profoundly EASIER to sound great and eliminate so much of the skill truly "great" singers need. And the reasons these tools are used is because he is NOT actually a great singer. Sorry, just reporting the truth here.
I'm sorry but this just isn't true. Whether he is using autotune or not here I can't say, but there are plenty of videos of him singing acoustically and he sounds amazing. Adding vocal effects is not the same as autotune
Say what you want about him but he is a great singer just because he uses auto tune very small amounts if not any in some cases shows how great he truly is.
He truly is a generational talent, you have to check the “Alone Again” VEVO Live Performance that one is great, my mom and I would really love to see more of him in your channel, my mom has a disease that’s affecting his memory, so she’s learning English (we’re Mexicans) she loves music and vocal education so she really loves your content and it also helps her with her classes to get involved in something she loves with your beautiful accent ✨ thank you so much for the joy your content brings to this home🫶🏼 Ps. The live performance of Save your tears with Ariana Grande is also great to coach about voice greatness

Would you react for "Desert Rose" by Sting ft. Cheb Mami, please
Would you react to Calm after the Storm by the Common Linnets (country song/eurovision song)
this is a generational song, you come across a song like this once every 20 years. for me this has been my favorite song of all time. I'm glad it got the recognition it deserves.
Bro this is exactly copied from someone 3 years ago but who cares
As an Ethiopian XO, this video made me happy. i love that u did research on Ethiopian music and his roots in general. Thank you for reacting to this!
I saw him live and I must say this was the best concert ever, his sound, his presence, his voice absolutely out of this world.
I’m a metal and hard rock fan, but I really enjoy The Weeknd. His extraordinary vocal talent along with his melodic and instrumentation choices are just so great to listen to. Thank you for the video.
Damn that’s cool haha
He lives across the road from me. So much coming and going. Nicest guy
Legend.. ❤
The Weeknd's voice is so amazing. I used to be one of the purists who only raved about his early trilogy mixtapes but his more poppy later phase grew on me. I appreciate both sounds now.
Man, Beth truly knows it like a library
Even tough I am a metalhead, I enjoy this song and 80s synthy songs
He's a generational talent, closest we've got to MJ expect Abel even takes it to greater heights with the world's and the stories he create, especially with the trilogy that we're currently waiting for the final part!
Great song! Great voice! ...and apparently super popular too. I must be living under a rock 'cause I never heard this. Thanks for the introduction!
The production on this track is so on point, fantastic.
GREAT reaction/analysis Beth!! I'm typically a rock, metal, prog guy, but I love anything that can make me move - and this song epitomizes that (much like MJ's Billie Jean!). This song immediately grabbed my attention - the groove and his voice - WOW!

Lets not forget that this is produced by the legendary Max Martin, he deserves credit for this megahit.
Get a grip. Martin's team did most of the leg work. Martin likely spent little time on this compared to The Weeknd and the rest. Stop trying bro take away credit from The Weeknd because what you wrote can be applied to virtually every artist with a hit song.

This is such a well done video and it compliments the perfect performance perfectly
My heart and mind jump everytime I hear this song!!
The first time (and SEVERAL times after that!!) I heard one of The Weeknd's other songs "I feel it coming", I seriously was convinced, that it was a previously unreleased song by Michael Jackson!! 😳 😅
thought the same with "I can´t feel my face" lol
I really love the little fun facts about Abel, also this is my favorite live performance from any artist ever
This is perhaps the best reaction to this performance. Great job.
Wish you had analysed his Superbowl medley! (if you haven't already?)
Aster Aweke is an Ethiopian singer he’s mentioned as an inspiration to his singing style and you can def hear it.
I remember when this came out, summer of 1985, great year.
Talking about Siousxsie and the banshees he actually sampled them in some of his earliest work. On his track House of balloons/ glass table girls for his first ever mixtape house of balloons he sampled happy house
Everything about this blows me away.
Me gustan tus reacciones asía la música retro me ponen de buen humor no se que disfruto más si escuchar esta bonita música o ver tu bellos ojos bien Beth 👏👏 🍀🍀
My lady ... It's just as great a reaction video as the song. I loved watching it, thank you. 🔥🤟🏻
Love this song
You can hear Aster Awoke in his voice every time, her influence in his carrier is amazing
Another great Canadian Artist! He joins many- Hank Snow, Gordon Lightfoot, Denny Doherty, Myles Goodwyn, Anne Murray, Sara McLoughlin, ...
He was pretty good in the show The Idol as well so he can act as well
Check out “In the Night” as well. Even higher. Even more MJ vibes.
nice research

I saw the explanation of who Michael Jackson is pop up on the screen, and felt extremely old.
This guy is Michael jackson … Clonaid . It is impressive .

I'm so accustomed to listening Raynich's cover of this song so original alnost sounds somewhar off to me

It's Friday. Thumping is bound to happen.
No connection whit Drake and fuck Drake if we talk about Weekend song
Poooot
Steven Suptic ruined this song for me
Auto tune.. Reverb.. Delay...
Thank You!!!
Voice is full of electronic manipulation. Pass.
