wow! notice starting at 10 seconds : white rear-guard dog is calling to the sheep to move into the centre and huddle closer? they are straying too wide = that's what he's telling them -and they obey ☝️
What one observes in most aboriginal Livestock Guardian dogs compared to most recent kennel produced Eastern European LGD's, is a much lighter generalized structural constitution, which given the task at hand, readily available food and nutritional content of their diet, and the fact that larger, more muscular and heavier boned dogs, while perhaps more adept at combating medium to larger predators, would be hard pressed to survive and thrive in an environment where carrying that excess weight and accompanying caloric requirement may have proven a detriment or counterproductive. Much of the mass of current kennel produced dogs does not assist in locomotion, and therefore the caloric cost of carrying that extra weight also imparts a metabolic premium, which in harsh and unforgiving austere environments, where the humans also carry little extra weight and have little spare food to feed their animals, would not be be ideal for the dogs. Dropping a 85-100+ kg dog into that environment would likely over time result in that very large and muscular dog not dying, but losing significant muscle and some bone mass, and revert to a lighter, much leaner, even malnourished by western standards, semblance of their former self. I have observed these magnificent dogs to be exceedingly resilient, even survive being shot in the abdomen with an arrow and brush it off, as a minor inconvenience, and to sustain serious injuries and heal very quickly. They are no-nonsense, and take their jobs very seriously. These are not cuddly house pets, but function evolved dogs. Form must always follow function. I have for the past 40+ years raised and worked with Great Pyrenees, Kangal, and Central Asian Ovtcharka dogs. The CAO and Kangal are wonderful dogs, but they are not for everyone.
There big difference between aboriginal ones and there hybrids. The hybrids can't use as livestock dog. There more guard dogs. I have long hair one, we call it Kavskiuri Nagazi, there quiet but always protect livestock. If have Russian hybrids, you call it caucausian shephard, there are different they don't understand what to do. Here you see Kazbegian dogs.
