    This is a review or should I say more of a demonstration of the Harbor Freight central machinery high velocity 30 inch pedestal shop fan. It has a powerful motor that can move 9000 CFM! (This was according to Harbor Freights Old catalogues). I believe Harbor Freight is really stepping up their game and is becoming the best place to buy tools. In this video I will show you how powerful this fan is by comparing it with a regular house fan and a control test. If you need have good circulation this 30 inch shop fan from Harbor Freight is a must!
    I think next, I'll use this fan and fog to build a wind tunnel :)

    I just bought this fan. It's very difficult to work in my garage during the hot and humid summers we "enjoy" here in central Illinois. I put this fan in a back corner of the garage and just aim it in my general direction. It does a great job keeping me cool enough to work. I've never used it on it's highest setting. I usually have it on low and it still provides a ton of air flow, without drying my eyes out. I considered their floor model 24" fan but I never have a clear path between any two points in my garage. Even if I did, it would just kick up a lot of dust. In any case, I consider the fan a great addition to my garage and I wish I would have purchased it a long time ago.

      @@gotminnam If I remember I will try to update you because that is my intention, I live in a travel trailer in the south in the summer without air-conditioning so it gets stinking hot. I had a box fan but it just can’t keep up. Even with it sitting right next to my head so I’m really curious about this one. Pretty sure I’m not gonna be able to hear anything on the TV 😂

      Yes, can you conduct the same test with the fan sitting at the bottom of the garage door with cardboard taped to each side .with the garage open at just 30 inches the height of the fan. .. would love to see how it pushes the fog out to simulate a true makeshift garage car painting booth situation ..

    One thing to consider is you will have an equal amount of air going in as you do coming out, that is why the fog does not really dissipate because some is being sucked back in. For a very hot shop or garage you will just be moving hot air around, and only feel kind of cool standing directly in its path. I have one of these and in a 100 degree garage it just blows hot air all around and is very noisy. Useful in certain circumstances

    Second time I bought this fan in two days. Harbor Freight Technical hotline said the motor is not supposed to be hot enough to where you cant lay your hand on it. I returned the first one only to find the second brand new one I purchased has the same issue. Within 15 minutes it gets hot enough to where I cant place my hand on the motor housing. Does anyone else with this fan experience the same issue? I worry this will fry the motor. If anyone else has this problem let me know. I am trying to figure out if I should keep the darn thing or not with the amount of heat its still kicking out.

      When I was comparing these fans I went with the tall one because the CFM rating was higher. The taller fan is also nice for clearing out hot air in large spaces, like a garage or something. Since I work on cars a lot, having the 24 inch high velocity fan would be nice to cool engine bays and exhaust pipes. I guess I'll have to buy this fan as well haha!

    What are the sound ratings (decibels) for this fan?

  • @garymcmullin2292
    @garymcmullin2292 2 года назад +1

    where do you find the 9000 cfm rating? I have looked hard to find a rating because I am interested in this fan. Most fans are sold on claims of cfm performance but not so for this Harbor Freight listing...which I thought is odd. The real value of your video is seeing the air turbulence created by the fan and of course that is possible because of the smoke. Other comments range widely about value of this test and even the value of having a circulating fan in high heat conditions. While it does not cool the air ( in fact the heat of the motor would increase mean ambient temperature), circulation of air is useful in managing heat in live animals and machinery. I have an idea that a guy could affix a small bank of misting nozzles, with a garden hose hookup to the front of the fan cage and thereby create a crude evaporative cooling effect.

      Hello gary mcmullin, I wish I kept the old ad catalogue. It used to say it on the coupon. Harbor freight removed it in later ads. Thank you for recognizing the value in my video. You are correct. It will not cool the local area, but it will move the air. Being in the hot humid southern heat I can tell you that this fan is a blessing. It will circulate the air in the whole garage creating a nice breeze. I like your mist idea. I think that would work pretty well.

    Would you recommend/Has anyone used this in there house for cooling in the south. Like 95°f plus high humidity? During the summer?

    • @GarageDynamics
      @GarageDynamics  4 года назад +1

      Hello LSPR Nation! This would definitely work well in the garage to move the southern heat. It should work in the house, but please plan ahead where you aim the fan because it's really strong, even on its lowest setting and quite loud too. But if it's heat you're concerned about, then this fan will help a lot. Cheers!

    The only thing I want to know is, does it have ball bearings? I'm tired of buying fans that have bushings-- they're cheap and you have to oil them all the time, and they get dirty... I hate it.

    Pedestal fan vs floor barrel fan, thoughts?

    • @GarageDynamics
      @GarageDynamics  3 года назад

      Hello Shane Baker! I went with the pedestal fan because it had more CFM listed in the ad. I wish I held on to that ad because now I think they removed the CFM rating. Also, the Pedestal fan is better for mobility and storage space once you add casters to the base. But if you work on cars a lot and need to cool the engine down, then I would go with a floor barrel fan. I hope this helps. Cheers!

      @@GarageDynamics I looked all for for the CFM rating last week and couldn't find it until I saw it in your video. I wonder if they got in trouble for making a ridiculously over exaggerated claim 😂

      Hello Artincorona, I just held an event over the weekend and had the fan running for over 4 hours straight. It ran just fine. I've also used it a number of times throughout the year, all on the lowest setting, because even at the lowest setting, it's still super powerful! Cheers!

    That fan would clear that garage in under a minute Open that window at the back of the garage and roll the fan to the front edge of the garage. Instant wind tunnel.
