    I have a 2007 FXSTC, with a DK 2” lift and deluxe option. I did notice that the fuel light comes on a little sooner sometimes, but rarely. The fuel gage on the tank has always been useless and I have never paid attention to it. I still set my trip meter every time I top off, and once I get to 120-140 miles, I fill up regardless of the light coming on or not. Wish I would had done the 2.5” lift.

    My 23 Freewheeler tank can be filled to the brim and never shows full( I fill from a 5 gal. Jerry can). More like 3/4 full. Maybe when I put my tank lift on it’ll show more accurately lol.

      It sounds like your float is not working correctly. I am fairly certain that a Tank Lift is not going to fix that problem, but you will still have all of the other great benefits of having a Tank Lift installed.

    If i upgrade my fuel tank on my 2022 streetbob to a 5gal tank do i need to get the ecu flashed or will it change on its own?

      Great question. We do not know for sure, but it is doubtful that the computer (probably the BCM, not the ECM) will properly compute the MTE (Miles to Empty), also the gauge will probably not calculate correctly.
      There may be other things I'm not thinking of. I would get on the forums and find someone that has already done it and see what they had to do to get everything functioning properly.

    My ultra runs around 120 degrees Celsius on average through the summer months, give or take, and about 110c through the rest of the months, yes the heads are cooled and I've got love lugs, (only in slow traffic) but I definitely noticed the drop in temperature (because I had my powervision first, before the lift.) And there's been around 5 degree change, across the board. So, yes the lift definitely helps.

    Most the old pans and shovels I've had were hardtail and a few shovels and evo's with shocks had me well conditioned to stretch my legs and walk around a bit from the 70's to my first twincam in 2000 so I was always stopping every 100 miles or so anyway lol so now many twincams later I'm on a trike and still outta habit I usually stop well before 130ish miles to walk around for a bit lol

      Always a good idea to walk around a bit periodically. My Sporty with a 3.3 gallon tank and a 3" Tank Lift still gets me around 140 miles...but that is about it. I usually pull over for gas around every 100-120 miles. 👍

      For best air flow front and rear on Touring, Softail & Trike Models. The Deluxe option adds a little bit extra, also gives better access/sight of the rear rocker box. Dyna's and Sportsters is ,mostly aesthetic for the rear...you may or may not like that look.

    17 Road King. Every time I have checked mileage I get right at 41 mpg. Installed the shortest front tank lift & the rear spacer (deluxe kit). I brought a 1 gallon gas can with me, ran the bike until empty and made the following notes:
    "Empty tank test. Total 235 mi. Left after 10 mi/lo range 32 miles. When I filled up I was able to put about 5.7 or 5.8 gallons in and bike was not very level (front end lower due to slant of concrete. " . For what it is worth. I normally just ride now until I hit the low range/10 miles indicator at around 200 & then have 30 miles to find a gas station.

    Do these lifts work with an aftermarket seat with a metal set pan?

      The deluxe option, which is an optional add-on to lift the rear of the tank .5", can make it a bit more difficult to install the seat but not impossible. Lifting the front alone, will not noticeably effect the seat or how it installs.
      You will want to check for clearance before ordering.
      Checking for clearance not only allows you to insure fitment, it also allows you to see which size will look best with your bike.
      We are NOT responsible for any damage done to your bike because of the kit.
      It is easy to check for clearance:
      1. With bike on kickstand, take the bolt out of the front of your tank.
      2. Loosen (do not remove) the bolt(s) at the rear of your tank.
      3. Turn your handlebars all the way to the left and raise the tank up your desired lift height to check for clearance issues.
      4. Turn your handlebars all the way to the right and raise the tank up your desired lift height to check for clearance issues.
      Be careful when lifting your tank, you do not want to hit against something (forks, handlebars, trees, blinkers, etc.) when checking for clearance.

    I would have to disagree. I have a 2016 dyna fxdls I put a 2in. lift. Before the lift I got about 220 mile to the tank and 188 after the lift. There would still be a little over a haft gallon still in the tank. And my gauge was off. It looks good. I was thinking to raise the rear a little to see if that would help. Let me know what you think.

      The Deluxe Option will make the gauge a little more accurate. You should be able to put the same amount of fuel in the tank, with or without the Tank Lift, and with or without the Deluxe Option. When filling, you may find that jiggling the bike a bit when the fuel get near full will help the air bubble escape and thus be able to get more fuel in. 👍🏍

    I could care less about the gas gauge it's useless anyways the 2" tank lift kit on my 07 road king is the best mod to date it made the bike look more aggressive and gave it allot more attitude badass DK !

    I have never had a problem w/ my twin cam. The one thing I regret is camming my bike and I lost 50 miles to a tank. Why would a person choose to lift the tank is it due to style, clearance, or breathability.

      Some people like the look. It allows more air to flow over the engine, helping it run cooler, it reduces buffeting, and it makes cleaning the rocker boxes easier. Here is a video showing the differences in look, and how the air flows.

      Probably because I prefer to keep my bikes stock and original.

    Good video! In the Mountain West, we overly fuel. Better safe, than sorry. We don't have travel centers every 5 to 10 miles.

      Thank you! No doubt on the distances between gas stations in some places out west.
      Crossing Oregon once, headed east, there was one gas station in a long stretch between others. We got there and it was shut-down, no longer in business. Fortunately we had enough fuel to backtrack over an hour and fill up. 2.5 hour delay...but we did not run out.

    So then, I should be pretty ok as far as fuel goes with a 3" tank lift on my 2016 dyna wide glide?

      That is correct, you will have just as much usable fuel as you do now. Your gauge may read a bit differently, varies from bike to bike.

    I have an 883R Sporster 2006 and I bought you the 2" rise... and now I do 25 miles less because gasoline is left in the bottom of the tank that is never used because the fuel tap is almost in the middle of the tank (original tank 3.5 gallons) .
    On the question of helping the engine to cool... it might even help and it's natural that it helps because now it have a bigger space and maybe redirect the air to the cylinders.
    In terms of stability...thats another story because the fact that it has a higher front fuel tank creates a "sailing" effect and lifts the front wheel causing some instability.
    What do you think about this?

      Are you sure you have 25 miles less? Have you run it dry, or are you going of the MTE on the gauge?
      In terms of Stability.
      We have been asked this question a few times over the years.
      Gasoline weighs about 6 lbs. a gallon. So a 3.5 gallon tank you are talking 21 lbs. Not all of it is higher, much of those 21 lbs are at the same height, even with a 2" lift. On top of that, only the front of the tank is lifted the 2" and the rear is lifted, at the most 1/2". Additionally you have the weight of the actual metal tank that is sitting a bit higher.
      On a 6 gallon tank, on average you will have, at the most, 10 lbs. 1 to 2 inches higher.
      There are a few things to consider:
      1. Do you feel any difference in the overall stability of the bike, in the curves, when it has a full tank vs. an almost empty tank? I don't, and I have not met anyone who did. That is well over an 10 lbs. difference in COG.
      2. Usually, a leather jacket, some layers, heavy gloves, and a full drink in the cup holder on the handlebars will weigh over 10 lbs and be Much higher than 1 or 2 inches of a tank lift. Do you feel a difference in the handling or stability in the curves? Again, never met anyone that did.
      3. When riding a 2 wheeler thru a curve, the weight is pushed down onto the contact patch of the tires.
      That little amount of weight (relative to the entire weight of the bike) is so small that it just is not felt while riding...straight or in the curves. Someone that is very tuned in to their bike may feel the difference when pulling the bike off the jiffy stand and/or while sitting at a stop.

    2015 FLD here; gas gauge is pretty much worthless. And yeah, I've been using trip gauges to manage fill ups for almost forty years, my reaction to seeing a gas gauge on the bike was, "well, this is kinda dumb."

    Love your channel. I have a 2013 FLD Switchback that I have fitted a 2” lift to the tank and my fuel gauge shows 3/4 when I fill it. Can I fit a 2014 fuel gauge to a 2013 and do I have to change the sender unit in the tank as well.

      I do not know that they are compatible, and I know that the filler neck on the '14-up is quite different.

    You show a before and after tank lift in your video but don’t say if it’s 1”, 1.5”, 2” with or without the deluxe option. It would be helpful if you did. It would also be helpful if you would say what bike it’s on.

    Looking on your web site. Does the deluxe TLK include font and rear lifts and what height to you recommend for a 2018 Road King Standard?

      The Deluxe Option is to lift the rear of the tank, and is usually used in conjunction with a Tank Lift, which lifts the front of the tank.

      Most popular on a Road King is the 2" Tank Lift, with about 3/4 of the folks adding the Deluxe Option to it.
      1.5" is enough to get a lot more air flowing over the engine, so how high you want to go over 1.5" is a matter of personal preference/how you like the looks of it.

    I have a DK 2" lift on my 2017 FXDWG, I only lifted the front of the tank because I didnt want to drill holes in the rear mount to level it out. I noticed my fuel gage never gets to full even when topped off and my reserve and fuel light come on sooner. I always used my trip before the tank lift anyway since the fuel gauge is hard to see when riding. I do exactly what they said , I set my trip each time I gas up and basically figure at 140 to 145 miles I am going to need fuel. I feel like I have a good range for the type of riding that I do and plan accordingly. 150 ish miles is a good time for me to stop and walk around anyway LOL.

    Guys this simply makes no sense. When you lift the tank the fuel transfer hose is at the front of the tank and its now 2"s higher and on my 2012 Wide Glide the petcock is on the left side of the tank at the rear. The problem is fuel that's on the right side of the tank below the now 2' higher-than-level fuel transfer hose port at the front of the tank will not be able to get over to the left side of the tank where the petcock is. I'm running your 2' lift and I always set my trip odometer and I can attest that the range is reduced 10 to 15%, and especially the reserve gas because the gas gage thinks that everything that's in the tank at any given level can get to the petcock on the left side. Theoretically, you can run out of gas on the left side of your tank where the petcock is with still 2" of gas in the tank on the right side! Unless gas runs uphill where you live or you are always driving downhill. Sorry guys, I disagree it's just straight physics.

      2012 Wide Glide does not have a petcock, unless you converted it from EFI to Carbed.
      When you use a Deluxe Option with the tank lift, the tank is sitting pretty level and you will get as much, or more, useable fuel than without a tank lift. On pre-2014 bikes the MTE and gauge my read off a bit, but the fuel is in there and useable. Here is a link to a written report with a drawing on the bottom.

      @@DKCustomProducts I was gonna say the same thing... 2012 doesn't have a petcock. Harley predominantly makes EFI; in point of fact I'm pretty sure only EFI.

    My 2020 trike gas gauge is far from accurate... I only use it as a guestimate.

      Yeah, it is weird, since 2014 most have been pretty accurate, but every now and then there are post 2014 bikes that the gauge is way off. Trip-meter is by far a better way...that way you can have a good idea of MPG also. 👍

      @@DKCustomProducts I use mileage to determine approximate level... my gauge will be in the red range and still have 3 gallons (half a tank) of fuel remaining.

      @@DKCustomProducts my Heritage had the same problem... it is only a guide. watching the actual mileage works best for me. HD has gauge issues. the speedometer gauge on my Heritage tank not only had a worthless gas gauge, but it also fogged up under certain conditions, actually staining the inside of the glass. replaced under warranty and it did it again. common problem that HD does not care to fix. we spend hard earned money on an expensive HD and deal with these issues all too often. and HD makes what appears to be no effort to resolve them.

    I have a 1" lift with a 1/2" rear lift on my trike. It definitely works and am considering going a little higher if it clears with bars.
    What is the effect on overall stability on a two wheeled bike in curves? Raising the weight of the full tank changes the position of center of gravity. Have you guys ever done a study of how that affects a bike going around a curve at speed? Thanks.

      Gasoline weighs about 6 lbs. a gallon. So a 6 gallon tank you are talking 36 lbs. Not all of it is higher, much of those 36 lbs are at the same height, even with a 2" lift. On top of that, only the front of the tank is lifted the 2" and the rear is lifted, at the most 1/2". Additionally you have the weight of the actual metal tank that is sitting a bit higher.
      On a 6 gallon tank, on average you will have, at the most, 18 lbs. 1 to 2 inches higher.
