As a mountain biker myself, i absolutley love to see people trying out mountain biking. You dont need to go crazy with trails, jumps or drops. Just get on and enjoy the ride 👍 To me, there is nothing better than being out on an MTB in nature.
That was brilliant Kate! When we were kids in the days before mountain bikes, suspension, helmets and protective padding we'd ride our basic single speed, internal rear hub brake bikes anywhere and over everything without a care in the world, it just seemed natural. Then only a few years ago when I found myself on skinny little 25C tyres staring down from the top of a 10+% decent for the first time, knowing I'd be going 35, 40 or even 45+ MPH on a 1/2" patch of rubber on a public road I thought "This is (_blank_) NUTS!". Now, I don't even think about that either. Guess we're all a little bit 👹dare-devilish 👹deep down . Congrats on getting over the bumps on the course and in your mind, it was super to see the excitement in your face and the nerves long gone when your rides were all successfully done!☝💪 - Bob (Toronto, Canada)
Riding MTB will improve your overall cycling skills (& fitness) so quickly, every roadie should own a knobbly tyre bike! Swinley is great, there is something for every ability and most trails are repeatable with a short loop back on the fire roads. Repetition means you can mentally review and correct your technique quickly rather then dwelling on it. So, time to get your own MTB and ride these types of places once a month for big gains!
Honestly it was so fab. I could feel my confidence just growing. I won’t invest in a bike just yet, but that did give me a glimpse. I think I need to not leave huge gaps in riding as my fear comes back so fast 😂 wish I still had the confidence of a teenager. But you’re super right, even simple repetition will help correct and I might look into lessons.
Well done Kate, it can be so intimidating the first time, but you did exactly the right thing taking it at your pace 👍🏻 I’m a little surprised the hire shop didn’t give you any advice, but of course don’t know the conversation you had with them. There’s so many good places like this to get your confidence up, if you’re anywhere near Tunbridge Wells, go to Bedgebury Pinetum 👍🏻
Oops that sent too quick! I think because I was with Isaac (who gave me some tips, the bike shop assumed I was good to go 😂 I got in my own head to be fair… but they were great. Really enjoyed taking it slow, felt a bit vulnerable posting it but in the end had a great time ✨
Hey Kate, welcome to the real world 😀😀I was going to suggest two rules for you to get more comfortable with mtb-ing 1. don't do drop type jumps and 2. don't do rock gardens, but it sounds like you have already moved past rule 1. The Whytes are nice bikes but next time spoil yourself with a dual suspension. Well done today (back in August 🤣🤣)
Hahaha thank you - I know I know August is so long ago! (Technically was start of sept) but I had this footage and thought why not share 😂 thanks for the tips ✨ I’m excited to give it another go!
Lovely!! I highly recommend take a class if you can, learn some more basics of tech handling skills and body movement. It will be more fun and enjoyable after a good beginner's session.

Thank you so much for the lovely words. So right!!
That was amazing! I really felt the fear through you - I doubt that I'd have the courage even after your pep talk at the end
Haha the fear was so real!!
That place looks awesome love going on my mountain bike
It was so amazing! For both mountain bikers and gravel grinders. Something for everyone too.

Great episode!! Mountain biking is so cool, I ride both and it’s great fun to mix it up every now and then!! Nice one🚵🏻♀️🚵🏼♂️
I definitely didn’t take to it immediately 😂 but loved getting stuck in 😂
