This scene with the father wouldve sent shockwaves through the cinema. Remember that at the time of this film American society was living under the fantasy of perfect family home, obedient kids that got perfect grades at school and didnt talk back to parents or rebel. This scene wouldve shaken those moral foundations.

However at the same time, Arnie is no saint either. Even those who care deeply about him like Dennis and Leigh aren't safe from it either. Does his parents deserve to get dressed down? Yes. Jake Jones I was raised in a similar kind of family. We put the FUN in dysfunctional. I was raised by my grandparents. My grandfather was a bully and passive-aggressive control freak. My grandmother was abused by my grandfather and took it out on me with emotional abuse and daily beatings. I wish I'd had half the guts Arnie had in this scene. Perhaps if I'd had the cojones to do what he did the abuse might have stopped. As it was, all I could think to do was get the hell out of there as soon as possible.

Such a powerful scene! Christine appears to be the catalyst for this 180 that Arnie’s behavior takes, but really this is a rage that sits inside of all of us who struggle to fit in. This pool of negative emotions that evolves into anxiety, self loathing, resentment and anger that simmers until it finally reaches a boiling point.

Well. I have to say it. It was Arnie's mom's fault. Because for one thing she forbidden him not to keep the car there at home, which had caused him to put it at the where he worked at. If his mom hadn't forbidden him not to keep the car at home it would have stayed in one piece. Most parents would be happy for their kids having a car. That's the way it should be. This scene shows us all that if anything negative comes out of your mouth & it comes true you will get blamed for it.
While I would agree, I don't really see how that would have stopped Buddy and the gang from smashing Christine. At least at Darnell's there was some security such as doors only Darnell and Arnie could open. Here, it's an open driveway and even if she relented she probably wouldn't let him put Christine in the garage. Not to mention I could see the following scenario: Buddy and the gang smash up the car, Arnie's parents wake up. Alerted to the noise, they see Christine getting smashed up. The dad offers to call the police, but the mom who was the most vocal about hating Christine stalls him until they leave. Then calls the police. "Sorry Arnie we tried to stop them." "How hard were you trying?!" That being said, there has been some debate in both book and movie over people's reactions to the car. More or less, implying that it has some influence that the people can feel subconsciously that causes them to react. In the case of Arnie's Parents, Dennis and Leigh, they hate it and it seems irrational to how much to hate it. However it's a question of how much their hatred and fear of Christine is based on her influence or based on their own attempts to rationalize the feeling said influence causes.

I think at this point of the movie, Christine's entity got her claws into Arnie and he became a fearless sociopath. Quite early prior to this scene, Arnie already became well attached to Christine because that's how she works with her owners. Control, psychosis, obsession etc.
I am going to analyze this scene and put it based on what people are saying along with what's happening: Arnie's mom apologizing I would not accept either; Arnie has been treated more like a dog than a son his entire life, he has been treated like a baby his entire life and since Arnie started retaliating after finding Christine only did it make them realize that he should be treated more humanly. The part where Arnie blames his mom about not letting him park his car in his driveway, I am going to have to argue against that. Someone said that if he parked it in his car in his own driveway it wouldn't have been as vulnerable to trespassers I want to argue against that to say. The bullies found out where Arnie kept his car at Darnell's. They would have tracked him down and found his car at his own house even if they let him park it in his own driveway They were so vengeful of what him and his buddy did in class to get him most likely suspended. While everyone was asleep at night they would have gone over to his house and vandalized his car anyways. His mother saying it's not fair Arnie has every right to be mad. If that was her car, she would be the same way. Bottom line It would have gotten vandalized anyways. The part where she wanted to talk about this rationally, Arnie's comeback was indeed justified what the bullies did to his car was not rational at all. The part where his dad said that his mother and him decided to help him buy a new car, that's bullshit it would cost more to buy a new car than to just fix Christine up. So that was just stupid and foolish. The part where Arnie said F you to his mom that was just mean and unnecessary, instead a less harsh way instead would have been "well screw that" I am fixing up Christine. Then him and his dad probably wouldn't have gotten in a fight.

Honestly, I know it's the car speaking through him (in a sense) but there were some valid points. It probably wouldn't have happened if they let him keep it in the driveway instead of where he had it. But then again it probably still would've happened if Buddy and them knew where he lived. I personally blame the mother more because she was doing most of the scolding in both the movie and the book, especially towards Arnie's friend. As for the father, I'm sorry to say it like this but the guy is pussy-whipped in the movie while in the book he was rather timid to a degree. Like he could've put his foot down and say to her "Look, it's Arnie's money. If he wants to buy a car, let him. He's old enough to decide for himself." I understand the time period but after reading the book and watching the movie countless times, it just irks me how it went down.

I really admire the way his dad grabs him,all like,"Listen,buddy,you've been disrespectful to your mother just one time too many! Now you go back in there and apologize to her at once!" Really,his mom truly looks like she's going to cry; what parent in their right mind wouldn't cry at taking such disrespect from their kid? I know this is only a movie,but still,using words you're not supposed to in front of your parents sure is a huge price to pay. Seems I remember there's also a scene later on where Arnie also uses the f word with Leigh,his girlfriend,over the phone.

I don't care what anyone thinks, Arnie was right in this situation. If his parents had let him park Christine in their precious driveway then it would not have been destroyed the first time.
Even if Repperton's gang found out where he parked the car. They would have been very foolish to break into his home knowing they could've called police, and Arnie would've been legally allowed to take any measures if they invaded his property.

Well. I have to say it. It was Arnie's mom's fault. Because for one thing she forbidden him not to keep the car there at home, which had caused him to put it at the where he worked at. If his mom hadn't forbidden him not to keep the car at home it would have stayed in one piece. Most parents would be happy for their kids having a car. That's the way it should be. This scene shows us all that if anything negative comes out of your mouth & it comes true you will get blamed for it.
While I would agree, I don't really see how that would have stopped Buddy and the gang from smashing Christine. At least at Darnell's there was some security such as doors only Darnell and Arnie could open. Here, it's an open driveway and even if she relented she probably wouldn't let him put Christine in the garage. Not to mention I could see the following scenario:
Buddy and the gang smash up the car, Arnie's parents wake up. Alerted to the noise, they see Christine getting smashed up. The dad offers to call the police, but the mom who was the most vocal about hating Christine stalls him until they leave. Then calls the police. "Sorry Arnie we tried to stop them." "How hard were you trying?!"
That being said, there has been some debate in both book and movie over people's reactions to the car. More or less, implying that it has some influence that the people can feel subconsciously that causes them to react. In the case of Arnie's Parents, Dennis and Leigh, they hate it and it seems irrational to how much to hate it. However it's a question of how much their hatred and fear of Christine is based on her influence or based on their own attempts to rationalize the feeling said influence causes.
I'm proud of Arnie. In the beginning, his parents treated him like trash. Thanks to Christine, The tables are turned.

I am going to analyze this scene and put it based on what people are saying along with what's happening:
Arnie's mom apologizing I would not accept either; Arnie has been treated more like a dog than a son his entire life, he has been treated like a baby his entire life and since Arnie started retaliating after finding Christine only did it make them realize that he should be treated more humanly.
The part where Arnie blames his mom about not letting him park his car in his driveway, I am going to have to argue against that. Someone said that if he parked it in his car in his own driveway it wouldn't have been as vulnerable to trespassers
I want to argue against that to say.
The bullies found out where Arnie kept his car at Darnell's. They would have tracked him down and found his car at his own house even if they let him park it in his own driveway
They were so vengeful of what him and his buddy did in class to get him most likely suspended.
While everyone was asleep at night they would have gone over to his house and vandalized his car anyways. His mother saying it's not fair Arnie has every right to be mad. If that was her car, she would be the same way.
Bottom line It would have gotten vandalized anyways.
The part where she wanted to talk about this rationally, Arnie's comeback was indeed justified what the bullies did to his car was not rational at all.
The part where his dad said that his mother and him decided to help him buy a new car, that's bullshit it would cost more to buy a new car than to just fix Christine up. So that was just stupid and foolish.
The part where Arnie said F you to his mom that was just mean and unnecessary, instead a less harsh way instead would have been "well screw that" I am fixing up Christine.

Honestly, I know it's the car speaking through him (in a sense) but there were some valid points. It probably wouldn't have happened if they let him keep it in the driveway instead of where he had it. But then again it probably still would've happened if Buddy and them knew where he lived. I personally blame the mother more because she was doing most of the scolding in both the movie and the book, especially towards Arnie's friend. As for the father, I'm sorry to say it like this but the guy is pussy-whipped in the movie while in the book he was rather timid to a degree. Like he could've put his foot down and say to her "Look, it's Arnie's money. If he wants to buy a car, let him. He's old enough to decide for himself." I understand the time period but after reading the book and watching the movie countless times, it just irks me how it went down.

Well. I see Arnie's point. It really was his mother's fault that he wasn't allow to keep his car there at home like he should. His mom said "You're not keeping any car at this house." She said it so it really was her fault. If she had just let him keep the car there at home it wouldn't have got torn up. Other words it wouldn't have been touched.
