    Caleb,
    I seriously cannot thank you enough. I'm fairly new to After Effects, and I've been doing very basic motion graphics to obviously get acquainted with the interface. I've watched endless tutorials on motion typography, and they've done a decent job at getting me to understand null objects. However, this is so in depth and absolutely phenomenal. No idea why this never occurred to me, but using the title safe and the second null literally saved and changed my life lol. SO simple, but ingenious.

    • @caleblancaster
      @caleblancaster  7 лет назад

      Hahaha, this is a great comment! I appreciate the kind words. The second null is a very simple, but incredible trick. Works so well for many different things.

    This tutorial is so awesome! You can also center your text by having the "Pan Behind (Anchor Point) tool (Y) icon" selected from the top bar, double-clicking the icon while holding down the "Command Key."

  • @goosane

    Thanks for making this tutorial. At the end when you're tracking the letters, the A is staying centered when there are 5 letters because your text is center aligned and it's the middle letter. When you changed it to "TRACKS A" it didn't keep the middle A static because the space between TRACKS and A is interpreted as a character. Your theory about using words with an odd amount of letters is correct, but the space messed you up.

    Thank you for doing this! Today was literally the first time I've ever tried using After Effects. Even had to download it from the CC. Except for getting to know menus as I go along, I've learned so much just digging in with this. I hope your cat got plenty of pets after you were done recording. It's hard to mouse while a cat is trying to shove it's head under your hand for pets! hahahah been there.

    I am an After Effects beginner. This was a great help to me. I tried to make a rap kinetic typography video... so... exhausting. So many words per minute, but the visual metaphors are quite interesting. Thanks for posting this. This video has so many basic concepts for After Effects I feel like I need to watch it more than once.

    5 minutes in, and I can already tell how good of a tutorial this will be! I have captions on as well, and you're speaking so clearly, that so far, that hasn't been one mess up with the auto-generated captions. Which make me happy, because I sometimes have to read the words as well haha. But anyway, thank you for this tutorial, and going into much detail! That's very important for a beginner's tutorial, and I've tried many kinetic typography tutorials for beginners, and this is the best one yet! I'm sure that the hour of learning this will be worth it :)

    If any1 else is having troubles finding the handles in the Ease graph(and if your graph looks different then in the video), next to the eye icon(graph properties) you have a button to choose the graph type, click on it and select 'Edit Speed Graph' and it should switch your graph to allow the handle bars manipulation.

    The tracking makes odd numbered text have the middle one static. It's just that the space is counted as a character, so you spelled "tracks_a". also it depends if the type have all the characters have similar to monospace widths.

    Hi! Thanks for this tutorial! I'm a media student, and I have a project doing Kinetic Typography, and instead of getting help by my tutor I'm watching this, as this is better haaha! I would really appreciate if you could add a bit text in your tutorials, so when you say a shortcut you write it in the video aswell, I struggled a bit with finding out how to make my keyframes ease, as you only said f9, and that didn't work for me, but I figured it out! I also really like how you have setup your workspace, so would be really cool if you could show us how to set it up like that.
    Thank you for making this!

    I know i'm kind of late and new to this stuff, but i think on the tracking animation, when you put "tracks a", none of the letters remained static b/c that is actually 8 characters instead of 7 (the space between the s and the a is included). If you take out the space, the middle (4th) character will remain static.

    • @caleblancaster
      @caleblancaster  8 лет назад

      You are correct! After rewatching this video I noticed that I added the space without realizing it, figured that was the case.

    So I have a question. When making a song with 2 or 3 verses and a chorus and overall, just multiple sections, you obviously don't want all of those verses and choruses on the screen at the same time, so how do you get one verse or stanza off of the screen so the next verse or stanza can show up? Do you just end the first verse words by cutting off the little red layer bars on the layers panel? Or is there some other way that I'm not aware of. I'm fairly new to AfterEffects and I'm making lyric video's for my band called Frago. Sorry if this is a dumb question. Lol.

    maybe its because you added a space between the (s) and the (a) when you wrote (tracks a)at 54:01 , so when you count the amount of letters being used its still a even amount , witch would explain why it did not work
