  • @JulAlxAU
    @JulAlxAU 5 лет назад +1

    There are literally hundreds of videos online and no one has broken it down like yours. Well done mate! On the first left hand pattern, one easy way that I found to bring it into the rhythm is to play it with my fifth, second and first fingers in such a way as my hand swings when I play each combination; swing backwards with finger 5 and 2 for C+G and swing forward with finger 5 and 1 for C+A. Very difficult pattern indeed and took me almost 10 days to find the best way to play it. That’s how I play it with fingers rather than arm! And don’t bother moving with the right hand before you could easily and comfortably play the 12 bars of blues.

    Thanks for that extra camera shot. I have a bad habit of typing hard on my laptop (aggressive) and seem to do the same on the piano. Also, I loved seeing you do the 5th and 6th with just your thumb and not index and thumb. Gave me validation as I've seen others do it and didn't want bad habits. It feels better to me just using my thumb.

    Hmmm, I was watchign another boogie woogie video and the guy played the first BW left hand pattern with 5, 2 and 1 fingers while you are doing it 5 and shuffling your 1. Why do you prefer your way? Is it easier, or faster? Are there any historical video recordings?

    • @Creativepianoacademy
      @Creativepianoacademy  3 года назад +2

      Great question. Answer - I don't prefer it and i swap between both fingering methods on a whim. Try both and see what works for you. Arguably the thumb shuffle 'could' give you more options for different boogie chops but really have at it and see what works for you.

    • @bill-2018
      @bill-2018 3 года назад +1

      I saw one like that too and was going to ask. I think moving the thumb as a beginner seems easier to me at this stage.

    I would recommend playing the C-G chop with you’re index on the G and you’re thumb on the A, it’s harder but once you get used to it, it allows you to play much quicker without messing up as often

    • @nickharris5684
      @nickharris5684 4 года назад

      Thank you! I've already learned the fingering with using index on the G, it's tedious relearning fingerings!

    • @jjrusy7438
      @jjrusy7438 4 года назад +1

      ya, if you actually play boogie, the index on the g and thumb on the a is bulletproof. zero moving fingers. plus you can play at any speed. you can only fumble your thumb back and forth so fast and only for so long. this is actually not doing anyone any favors regarding the chop.

    … a small note (pun intended), since the 50s when Sister Magnacarta would hit my hands with a ruler in 2nd grade, I have never been able to focus on the piano because of the need to do two things at once. God forbid understanding chords. I’ve played many types of woodwinds, (from C melody tenor to Eb Sopranino saxophones) but I could never grasp the piano, until now … at 75 with your videos and a GREAT piano. For those struggling, I suggest an acoustic piano like my 1949 Acrosonic Baldwin. When the room rings with your left hand, the music has begun. Love studying piano this way.

  • @grberkh
    @grberkh 5 лет назад +1

    For the first hand pattern - I used to use my thumb between the G and A notes.Then I watched another video and demonstrator on the video used index finger on G and thumb on A.
    It took awhile to get used to, but it’s now natural. My question is: should I go back to just using my thumb between the two notes? Is either one more beneficial in the long run?

    • @Creativepianoacademy
      @Creativepianoacademy  5 лет назад

      One is not more beneficial than the other imo. I use and switch between both.

    • @jjrusy7438
      @jjrusy7438 5 лет назад

      IMO, playing the chop with index+thumb is less fatiguing AND more accurate for when you are concentrating on the right hand stuff. Nothing moves.... The only time I would still use thumb on 5th and 6th would be if there were lots of notes in the pattern between the 1st and 5th that need lots of fingers(like pinetop boogie bass maybe) or I was setting up for like a chromatic fill for a transition etc. I agree that being comfortable with both is probably a good idea to give you more playing options. BOOGIE ON! edit: I think I would do pattern 3 with thumb and index since I would also slide my finger down off the e flat onto the e, so I would have spare fingers to use one for the 5th and thumb for the 6th

      His fingering is wrong. I suggest that you find another lesson with a different teacher. This will tie you up later on. It will form bad habits that you will have to unlearn. Keep doing it the way you are and you will find it easy to change key. There are good and bad everything, including piano teachers. Good luck.

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️👎👎 This guy does not know the correct way, rather he only knows part of the left hand. This style of music originates from the days of the cowboys in the 1870s. It’s actually a style of music from the Wild West that should have the rhythm and speed of riding a horse a walking speed. Then over time it was played faster and faster which eventually gives us the boogie Woogie music we hear today.
    This guy has a really nice touch.
