The Smile is a band by Thom Yorke (Radiohead) and Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead) with Tom Skinner on drums. I hope you're going to listen and give a reaction from their albums - A Light for Attracting Attention -Wall of Eyes - Cutouts It has a radiohead vibe and also old radiohead songs that were never used are on their albums. And yet there is something different about it.
The thing is a lot of people dislike this studio recording but the songs oddly enough very much come to life in live performances, for example Bloom is simply not working for me in this studio recording, but when you hear it live, it's fantastic.
@@s.meijer3339 The best version of Bloom is when they performed it live at the Stephen Colbert show during an hour special, and it just blew me away. Unfortunately I think they removed it from RUclips, maybe copyright issues. They also performed Daily Mail and The National Anthem then, maybe even a couple more, been a while.

I love this album. I really do. It took me two listens for me to "get it". I love this album. I hope you finish the discography up and try the In The Basement series. Also, The Smile is fantastic.
Oh man, you are a bona fide Radiohead fan by doing this album journey, FOR SURE! The further steps are many - the 2 From the Basements, you get to know the band and see them in action and at the height of their skills, then you are a Super Fan! - also a ton more songs like "In Rainbows - Disc 2" and the roughly 75 B-Sides, maybe low estimate, which are rarely throw-aways, they are full of incredible songs, so many, it sounds biased but seriously, it is a legit statement - then watching their live full band big concerts as well as a bunch of acoustic and solo Thom - then of course, side projects, Thom has 3 solo albums, lead guitar Johny Greenwood, Thom's partner as leader of the band, is one of the most highly acclaimed film/movie music orchestral composers in Hollywood, with 2 Oscar nominations, and Thom and Johny made a new band over Covid called "The Smile" and they've done 3 albums as of 2024. BUT - Radiohead have not broken up, and I truly believe will do another album, I'd guess that would be the last, but I still feel confident.
very nice to know you liked it! its probably my fav of theirs, if it grows on me then its already the size of the amazon! xD, im glad to see you liked the orchestra because "A Moon Shaped Pool" has a LOT of those, im sure youre gonna love it! keep up with the good stuff king (of limbs)!
This was my feeling when I first heard it. It definitely turns a corner at Lotus flower. I enjoy the first half now but at first I didn’t like it much, I couldn't find the emotional content there.
I adore the vibes on this one. For a long time when people would ask what kind of music I listened to my answer was, "the kind that makes you say 'what the fuck are you listening to'" The vibe from note ONE to the final beats is immaculate. (The only change I would make is to move Codex and Give Up The Ghost to the last two tracks) I'm excited for when you get into the deluxe editions, b-sides and live performances.
Love this album. Very much slept on! A lot of fans thought this was only part 1 due to the final track being called ‘Separator’ and the last lines being “If you think this is over then you’re wrong”. No part two though haha.
The legend is back!! I'm having fun tonight I don't care about anything else. I honestly don't see why people prefer live versions of most of these songs, I think the studio album is a trip that most aren't attracted towards and that's fine but there's no reason to say that "it's bad" or "not as good" anyways I love the album! 🤎
The biggest reasons I think this album doesn't get the same love A)The "From the Basement" version is almost Universally beloved as better than the studio, and I must agree, absolutely incredible B)2 of the best if not THE 2 best songs off this project were released as a 2 song single, and would have added a lot to the stamp the main record left - I recomend doing that as a quick upload surprise before the next album "The Daily Mail, Staircase" C)The short run time iof 8 songs, with a unique style of really playing into rhtyhm, as the only release in the 10 years between "In Rainbows" and "A Moon Shaped Pool" left fans sad I guess...but those 2 extra songs are included on the Basement session, and by now, as you've seen, they aren't trying to please anyone, they go with an idea - in this case rhtyhm, loops - and make it work. Then figure out with no tricks how to play it live and it absolutely shines like the sun!
Sorry one last comment, either way, you're smashing this, so it'll be great no matter what. But doing Pablo Honey (which half the people who hate on it bet have never listened to it - I was a junior in High School when it came out and it was enjoyed plenty at the time and though it gets sluggish it absolutely has several great tracks and a lot of wild guitar and Thom singing at an unreal level being so young. That beinb said, Pablo Honey next and ending with "A Moon Shaped Pool" especially since their is a chance it's the final Album, though I refuse to truly believe it, they are officially still tpgether and all actively making music and have no drama or beef, so to me finishing on a 10th album with a final big tour is the future I see. But you never know. Anyway, I wrote 3 long ass comments and subbed, you are killing it and just the fact you are thinking of how to go into some of those next levels of material, that would make you goat'ed in the Radiohead Reactor space, espeically if yuo hit the Basement stuff and see what's beyond that (hell, didn't even mention their music videos which are all unique and cool as hell, they even have a VR game focused around Kid A and Amnesiac, which they wrote at the same time0. But 2 more albums on this ride so I am grateful for your time and effort having done all you have and will just on that point. Many thanks!
It made me sohappy to see you react in such a positive way to this Radiohead Musical Masterpiece. So many fans don't like this cd because it's sound isn't solid guitar rock. I think it is magical in its originality and content. Some bands essentially make the same records over and over again, but Radiohead are true artists that continue evolve, change, and adapt their musical style. Thanks for your joyful, heartfelt reaction. You only confirmed to me how uplifting this music is.
I agree with the chill thing. Sometimes I might not want all the heavy stuff at certain times of day, especially with guests or what not. Something a bit more hypnotic is a nice change. If anyone ever listens to genre krautrock, it's like a modern spin on that I reckon. Thom is so soulful at times. Reminds me of some vintage female jazz/soul singers, just with different sound textures and band etc.
Good to see you enjoying! I heavily fuck with this album, but it still doesn't rank very high for me. It's chill, short, stays in its grooves, and at times retreads old vibes. It's still a beautiful record, though. Very effective 🎧
Funny thing about those lyrics on “Separator”, which repeats the words “If you think this is over then you’re wrong…” In the months following the release of this album, the fan community convinced ourselves that those lyrics were proof that another album was on the way soon. This was further fueled by King of Limbs being so short so everyone was sure this meant another full album of material had already been recorded and we’d get it soon lol (it was another 5 years before we got A Moon Shaped Pool).
Another funny thing around this album was comments from Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher: Liam Gallagher has launched an attack against Radiohead. The singer took aim over the title and lyrics on the band's new album 'The King Of Limbs', which was inspired by a 1,000-year-old tree in Wiltshire's Savernake Forest. “I heard that f*cking Radiohead record and I just go, 'What?!'” he told the Quietus. “I like to think that what we do, we do f*cking well. Them writing a song about a f*cking tree? Give me a f*cking break! A thousand year old tree? Go f*ck yourself! Gallagher added: “You’d have thought he’d have written a song about a modern tree or one that was planted last week. You know what I mean?”
I dont understand why so few people reccomended moon shaped pool, its a top 3 radiohead album, but i think you should just do what the other guy reccomended, let it for the last one so you can see the evolution of pablo honey from moon shaped album

I like this album, but the Live From The Basement is more superior, the arrangement is beautiful (there is also a B side in there but trust me it's really good for being a B side).
I really like this album but it would have felt properly substantial if they’d included The Butcher, Supercollider and Staircase which all fit perfectly and maybe the Daily Mail (good song but doesn’t fit so well)
