Usually welders like a little tint to their glasses because you are often working around other people that are welding as well. Welding rays are ultraviolet light just like the sun, so the tinting provides protection from other welding rays just like sun glasses do from the sun. I wear glasses that transition from clear inside ,to a #2 darkness in sunlight. Clear glasses offer a little protection around welding rays, but not as much as the tinted glasses. I wear a # 8 or # 9 dark filter lens and a # 2 or # 3 shade glasses. You add the two numbers together and that gives you your total tint protection when welding. So, I am usually welding with a total 10-11 shade eye protection. Thank you!
Wish we had Les Schwab down here
