- I really did not expect to find a ton of bass in this section of the river but shoot! I guess that’s why you never judge a book by it’s cover! Such a fun day on the water….. thank you all for watching and subscribing!
Keep on keeping on!

I remember the reason for the reason why the river is so shallow: the flood of 1978 when, among other things, the Mayowood dam had issues that sent a ton of water downstream and flooded large swathes of downtown, into Silver Lake, and further downstream of the Broadway Dam that was so overtopping that the Broadway bridge was underwater. My grandparents who lived 4 blocks from Silver Lake had their entire basement flooded with water stretching another half block beyond. Aunt & uncle lost their house when river further downstream left a pile of mud to the ceiling of their one story house.
Rochester designed and built current water system to ensure a repeat performance was not in the cards. In almost 50 years what they accomplished in river mgmt is awesome testament to good design and planning.
I’ve heard of all the changes since the 70s. Pretty wild to think how different it was back when! I’m just happy it’s not flooding peoples homes anymore!
Super cool, I fished across from where you put in and never had a bite. Glad to know there are fish down there.
Definitely!
Lived in and around rochester most if my life. The root ruver, back in the day, was some premier small mouth fishing. Hit the area off 63 stewartville. Or, put in south of chatfield, hwy 52, kayak down river. So many good spots.
That’s awesome! Yeah I have hit the root a few times and done well for smallies - I’m realizing that just about any river around the general southeast Minnesota area has some good fishing! Hard to beat a good smallie bite that’s forsure lol
I fished that area when I lived up there in the early 90s. Try the little dam by soldier field. Caught some good ones in there. Mostly on small Rapala husky jerk or a white twister. 1/16 Oz. The root also rocks for smallies.
Awesome! Yeah I’ve done well in almost every spot I’ve tried through the zumbro in town… quite the underrated fishery!
love that new camera angle dude!! 💪
Thanks bro bro!
Would have never thought to fish there. Right behind the civic center!!
I know right?? Funny how that works sometimes. lol
Below the silver lake dam where cascade creek runs into the zumbro is a good spot. It's fished alot but holds good smallies and walleyes
Yeah it’s a good spot especially in the spring - I usually do well out there! Thanks for tuning in to my video!! 🫡
Bro big pike below the dam!! your good man its all public!!
🤜🤛
I live around that area i have never seen anyone kayak that part of that section of the river
Yeah me neither. I have not been back out there for a long time to check on how it is now. I was told by several people it may not be ok to kayak that section so I haven’t in forever. Pretty cool though, eh?!
@LoOutdoors yeah right now it's super low and figured out where you were and at that spot is even more shallow that in this video. But I do have a couple videos on my channel but they have been at my campsite at wisconsin and so far it's been good but none yet on video
Smart approach. Over here in Lakeville, haven’t been to Rochester yet but interested in checking it out.
Have you ran into any issues launching or fishing from this spot since then?
Yeah I’ve had several people talk to me about it but no official “kicked out”. Last time I tried I had a police officer park and watch me for about 20 minutes before I packed up and left. Haven’t tried since lol
@@LoOutdoors Haha, that's just silly man. Minimal noise and don't bother anyone but I guess he had nothing else better to do. Thanks again for the share!
Definitely! Thanks for watching, JLieu 👊
Eagle Claw is the best!
Yessir!!! They sure are!! 😬
Couldn't the one bleeding... been fixed up at the Mayo Clinic?... since it's right there.
Now that’s a smart idea! After the initial emergency room visit it could have went up to the plastic surgery department to get some work done! Maybe add a few pounds and be the biggest bass in the water!
Lo Outdoors I’m from the Rochester area would you ever want to meet up and jump some ponds
Definitely! If you have IG, let’s connect there via DM. lo_outdoors_fishing is my handle
Is 3 a crowd?
Yessir!
