I've wanted a Trail 70 since I was 9. Traded for one once but let it go. Finally got a Trail 90 off of CL. The guy rode it out to the road but I don't know how, must've filled the carb bowl prior to my getting there as both fuel lines to the carb were cracked with age and there was no gas in the tank. That was the beginning of my Honda 90 journey, I pulled the tank, which involves pulling the exhaust. Pulled the carb and found stripped out intake bolt into the head. Cut down the right metric bolt to the right length and JB Welded it into the head so I have a good stud there now. Changed out all the seals that were leaking. Needed a tuneup as the timing was off and the valves were tight. A spritz of new paint, new tires on perfectly chromed wheels (they really did a good job chroming things in 1969) and a tune on the spokes, a little lube on the chain and a new air filter.. I've got some money sank into it but I have a "like new" 1969 Trail 90 that I trust completely as I went through just about everything, and man I am glad I put the time and money into it because it is SO much fun to toodle around on both on the trails and on the street.
Great stuff guys. This is why videos like yours are so much better than mainstream TV stuff. No bad language, no being overly dramatic..... just two friends having a proper adventure. Nice work. ❤
What a mudfest, you guys got a helluva workout. The 90s did great. My spk plug popped out some 8kms up a mtn. After coasting back down I stuck the stripped plug back in with my fingers and nursed it the rest of the way home in 2nd. What a champ! Tons of spirit for sure.
I have the 1970 CT90 bought new and still have the sales receipt, tool kit, touch up paint that came with, (yellow). It’s the bike I learned to ride on! Has under 3000 miles. The sales recipe says new , out the door $280.00 !! It’s become a family heirloom As it sits out there proudly beside my Custom Harley’s and Buell !
Back in the 60's, I had a Trail 55 and had a similar experience - we were out riding and it started to rain -we headed back, but the mud just rolled up on the tires and the bike wouldn't move. When you cleaned it out, you only got 10 feet and were stuck again. I ended up having to leave the bike and come back the next day to rescue it after the rain.
23:20 - Were you using ethanol mixed fuel? If so, it suffers from "carb icing" worse than normal fuel. Basically the water content (ethanol is hydroscopic) in the fuel freezes due to wind chill, making the bike stall. You then stop to work out the issue and the residual heat from the engine (now without the wind chill) defrosts the carb and the bike will run again. My 2006 Honda XR125L has a carb heater specifically for this issue. It's a tiny little eletrical heating element that screws into the carb and there's a thermo switch that turns on at 10C or less.
What a great video and adventure, I felt bad for Red, I thought it was dropping compression or something, the snow at the beginning made an awesome opening, along with the gorgeous bikes and stunning mountains and magical music, was the setting for a promising video, excellent! I went on a muddy trail today on monkey so feel your pain, but mine was soft and liquid mud, so slippy but not clingy!..
I have a 2020 CRF 250 Rally and a 1981 Honda Trail 110. I took the 250 on the Oklahoma TAT this year and I will take it on the Arkansas TAT next spring. But when I need a smile put on my face, I go out and fire up the 110. I like the 250 because I know it will take me to far places and back. But when I need some real fun, it is th 110 I reach for.
People bitch and laugh about how slow my CT is and Is mention how 35 is fast enough for the roads I like to be on. Usually I leave out the part about how nice those places are without them around lol.
When I'm headed out to the trails I always pull the mirrors, easy to do and you don't need them
Hell of a time . This is what memories are all about . Camp fire stories .
As a CT70 owner, I approve of this. These are such epic bikes!

"When you're in a rut...best to stay in it." Love it! 😊

Thanks so much @stefanm67
What a great, muddy adventure, now I want an old CT of my own ::P

Good job gents! Glad you had a great time and made it home safely!👍👍👍
Excellent video Excellent 90s... looking forward to seeing more.
i love how you twist the throttle wide open and then a second later they start moving
Great trip lads, a little envious of the trails you boys have on your doorstep

I bet it was tougher on the trail 55? I haven't ever seen a trail 55, they're more rare than the ct90 apparently!

That is good info, and on that day it could have easily been that issue! Thanks for the reply!
What a great video. Great edit with your audio music mix. I have the modern version and they are just as fun
What a trip! I’ve only been on the back side of that canyon! Looks sweet tho! Gotta love a Honda!!

I LOL'ed at the sound in fast motion. lol

So true!
Only running with the choke on could be a blocked pilot jet.
Yeah, I think some mud possibly got in the carb lol!
Were you in high range or low? Sounded like a lot of heat being put into the centrifugal clutch.
Low Range until we hit pavement
Multi part across your state? Next time?
That is a plan we have, currently planning the next one!
Awesome!!! I have a 2021 trail 125 and love it... Showing my wife these Chad bikes and she wants one now! More of these trail videos please!
More to come soon!
10:00 No Ed March singing? Shame.... :D
I love Ed March's adventures!

Until you've been on a CT going 35, you don't realize how fast it feels on one of those ha ha ha!
I just got one of these with the hopes of doing this same sorta shenanigans 😂
I'm excited for you! We took them out in some harsh and rough areas, but they really do great on dirt roads and trails.
