I've been reading The Water Margin recently. In one of the first chapters, a butcher is helping a bandit lord get married by trying to put the daughter's father into so much debt that the only thing he can do is sell her. The daddy-daughter duo is crying about it in an inn where a military officer is trying to get drunk, he tells them to shut the fuck up, and asks why they're being such little bitches. They tell him, he responds by saying that shit ain't cool and that he'll take care of it.
The officer goes to the butcher on pretense of getting meat for a party at the palace, and has him cut some meat to a certain size. After a couple hours, he changes his mind and asks for the cuts to be a different size. After a couple more hours, he changes his mind again. The third time this happens the butcher catches on that the officer is wasting his time and confronts him about it, to which he says 'well ain't you a sharp little cunt' and gives him a savage beating in which his face is broken to death.
Which normally hey, no problem. But the officer's superior was kind of a corrupt guy who owed a favor to a bandit lord that the butcher was trying to sell the daughter to, so the officer had to run away before his face was branded and sent to a maximum security resort in which whether or not you eat is entirely dependent on your ability to bribe the warden into bribing the guards into letting you bribe the cook into actually making food.
Later on in the book, an obviously good guy sort of character of high moral and ethical standing has had a run of bad luck pissing off various corrupt officials, and is told by another obviously good guy of high moral and ethical standing to seek out a bandit friend at the marsh. He does so, and meets a fellow who works for him. He introduces himself as (paraphrasing) "nobody special really, just a nice fellow who murders passersby. I need to kill them so that I can have meat for my stores and their fat makes such lovely candles. Also, they have goodies that I can sell to other people before murdering them, too". The hero of the story says "cool, when do I meet your boss?"
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is from a book considered one of the four pillars of Chinese literature. The amount of murder, mayhem, good people doing objectively bad things being portrayed as good, and side plots about corrupt officials wanting someone else's wife is amazing and I highly recommend giving it a go.

You should try reading Romance of the Three Kingdoms. There's an episode in that story where a hunter murders his wife and serves her to the emperor just because he didn't have any other meat to offer him.

Concretely I think the Zhou invented the Xia and said the Shangs got the mandate of heaven from the Xia so after they have already overthrown them they could claim they now have the mandate so everything is OK.

And lest we forget the South China Tiger species, which you hunted to extinction. Also remember when like half a year ago your government proposed a law that would allow again for tiger and rhino parts to be traded freely again? Thankfully the law wasn't accepted, but it wasn't denied either, and is being held suspended to this day. I have no doubts that you have laws in place to minimize poaching, but it is very clearly not enough. Because you see, having chairman Pooh say that he will combat poaching and improve the state of ecology is not enough, as you actually have to enforce these laws, and you and me both know that Chinese have issues with following the law. Same applies to international treaties, which in this case is CITES which you may be a part of, but do not necessarily enforce it.
TL;DR Your traditional medicine creates demand for animal parts, and your disregard for ecological well-being encourages paching. Combine that with your ridiculous population and you have the ecological equivalent to the plague
