Excellent Video -- to hell with being outdated!! It was nice to remember the good ol' days of being stationed there (1992-1996) 21 SOS.
I was a TDY refueler (63150) for Global Shield 1978 at RAF Mildenhall. Hot defueling the SR-71 was fun.
During the early 60's the USAF was not a sideshow with units such as 48th Tac Ftr Wing, 47th Bomb Wing, 10th Tac Recon, 53rd Weather and other units and support bases. As I recall it during the early sixties more than 60 thousand people and many tons of freight passed through the base. Times may have changed but it is still a large operation. .
This brings back some good memories. "Will you sign me in please" in front of the Galaxy Club
What is a television tax?
The comment that Mildenhall became the airhead for the U.K. in 1948 is incorrect. That function was transferred from RAF Burtonwood in the early part of 1958. I closed RAF Croft which was a transient base around March 58 and transferred to the Air Traffic Coordinating Office monitoring passenger and freight traffic through that port. I really hope for my husbands sake he didn't have to watch this video lol, how old is this video lol very informative though. It had the old notes that we used to have and it didn't have 2pound coins on it either.

Can the British public shop on the base? If not, they should. Each family could buy a card which would give them the right to shop on base.
Then perhaps you should never be allowed off base or preferably in the uk
