Honestly, one of my favorite aspects of the new timeline are how friendly Shang Tsung and Quan Chi are with each other, rather than being allies looking to stab each other in the back at the first opportunity. Both came from nothing, knowing exactly what it’s like being at the bottom, and both now know the sting of betrayal, which only pushes them closer together. They were honestly one of my favorite parts of the story mode.

I think it's more just the 3D era. MK9 was basically a retelling of Mortal Kombat 1,2, and 3 and MKX was basically a remake of Mortal Kombat 4. MK11 tried to do it's own thing, but now MK1 is getting to the 3D games (5 Deadly Alliance, 6 Deception, 7 Armageddon). That just leaves MK8 (MK vs DC), so maybe we'll get a MK vs DC 2 in a few years.
What bugs me out is that Liu Kang at one point says "a new Deadly Alliance?" when first told about Tsung and Quan working together when in truth he never faced it before since the DA never happened after the MK9 reboot, and since MK11 overrides that game it makes even less sense lol
Funfact: We can't see it due to stream stuff, but "Dark Shao" is actually called Shao Kahn in that battle. Makes sense, since he has the classic Hammer instead of an Axe.

@@carlosd.163an actor is only as good as the director makes them, even in voice acting it still requires to have a good voice director to project the scenario to the va's as they're only there to read a script and most of the time don't even know the whole context of what they're reading. hayden christensen is an example of this, george lucas is an amazing story writer but he's incredibly awful at directing the star wars prequels. people blamed the actor's performance as to why the prequels were bad despite it all was ultimately finalized by george himself, not the actors. now hayden's back to being anakin in the disney+ shows and he is killing it with his performance lately, because the directors are actually guiding him to act at his best.
I like how Quan and Shang are just friends in this one They play off eachother and have great banter, makes it feel ever so believable to have the sorcerers stand together for something else than "us ebil mwhahaha"

While Not Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa and Ronald Banks, Alan Lee and Sean T. Krishnan does a Fantastic Job preforming as Shang Tsung and Quan Chi that they nails the Voice Tones and Sinister Personalities of the Deadly Alliance that honestly I want to see more of Them, these are Villains and Sorcerers we Love to Hate and have a Lovable Devilish Charm.
So many references and callbacks to previous MK titles, both from original timeline and rebooted one. They really wanted to give the OG nerds a nostalgia trip with this one.
It does seem like MK1 is doing with the 3D era what MK9 did with the original trilogy. IE: summarizing the general plot of those games but with a certain twist given to them to set up things for the new continuity.
Dark Shao mentioning Armageddon isn't just a reference to the game, but it's a direct callback to his speech in MK9, the one before Raiden reset the timeline

Shang Tsung is easily the best MK villain. My only gripe with him in this game is the turning old mechanic. I don't get it, in this timeline he's not an old man that deages by sucking souls. The old man persona is just makeup now. So why is he using it in battle? I wish they just added those moves to young Shang and gave us the ability to choose who we transform into instead of just the opponent.
