I just got my PE200 and an iOptron 1.75" LiteRoc Tripod for CEM40 / GEM45 Mounts # 7623. Installing the AM5 on the tripod was very simple and took only a few minutes. I unscrewed the threaded bolt from the bottom of the tripod that secures the spreader plate and removed the iOptron pin that sticks up in the center of the tripod mounting plate. I then removed the silver plate from the bottom of the PE200 which has 3 screws holding it on. The PE200 then screws down onto the iOptron tripod using two screws provided with the PE200. Hole alignment was perfect and it only took a few minutes to do. Then I screwed the spreader bolt back onto the bottom of the tripod, attached the spreader plate and I was done. So simple and a rock solid connection. So very happy this worked. I have a Celestron 9.25 I want to use with the AM5. Thanks for your help and guidance on this Simon.
Hi Marvin. I'm circling back to this video since I want to get (eventually) a Celestron 9.25 and use it with the AM5. How have you found the guiding with the AM5 on the LiteRoc tripod with the Celestron 9.25? Have you been imaging DSOs with the setup?
Hi Simon. The EQ6 central bolt is too short to be abl to reach the m10 hole in the PE200 when the bolt is passed through the EQ6 tripod. Also, even if it was longer, it doesn't appear to have exactly matching threads with the M10 adapter. I fitted the 3/8" adapter to the inside of the baseplate and replaced the EQ6 tripod central bolt with a 1ft 3/8" 16 TPI rod and knobs from Amazon. This works beautifully. with the PE200 sitting tight on top of the tripod.
Hope you enjoy the fabulous new PE200 - love to hear how you find the new pier extension on non ZWO tripods - please let us know in the comments section and of course let us know if there are any specific videos you'd like to see
I expected to see an installation guide for the Pier Extension, but all I got was some pictures of from the manual, which doesn't show how to assembly the parts.
Hello again, Simon. I'm getting a lot of conflicting information as I try to sort this out, so I thought I'd ask your opinion. I want to get another AM5 (I really love the mount) to use with a Celestron Edge HD 9.25 that I'm planning on purchasing in the next couple of months. On many vendor web sites, I still see ZWO's statement about not using the AM5 with anything over about 900mm focal length for DSO astrophotography, but I no longer see the statement on ZWO's website. Does this still apply? In your opinion and based on your knowledge of others' experiences with the AM5 and longer focal length telescopes, would I be able to use the AM5 with the Edge HD 9.25 as long as I put it on a heavy tripod, e.g., an iOptron LiteRoc1.75" (like Marvin shared in the comments for this video). Hope you can clarify a bit! Thank you so much for all the great videos.
@@TeamAstroworkz I received my AM5 (2nd one) and mounted it on the iOptron LiteRoc 1.75" for CEM40/GEM45 tripod. It fits beautifully and feels extremely solid. As Marvin said below, it couldn't be easier to install with just two screws through the PE200 into the tripod. I also have to say, I really love the updated paint job on the AM5 (and the ASIAir Plus)! Nice and bright.
Hi Simon. Thanks for a very informative video on this pier extension. I've been using the 160mm extension for a while on my AM5 mount and ordered the new PE200, which should be arriving next week. I looked around and haven't found an answer to this: do you know if the adapter with the PE200 will allow it to be used on the tripod for a CG-4 mount? I have a CG-4 mount I use for visual observing, but I was wondering if I could use the tripod for it with the AM5. Thanks again for the great information!
Hi Greg - what does the top of the CG4 look like ?? Anything like the AVX style tripods - I am not familiar with that mount sorry but I can share any pictures / dimensions you might need in the meantime till yours arrives
@@TeamAstroworkz Thanks for the reply, Simon! The CG-4 mount has a peg on it for adjusting azimuth when polar aligning. The problem is the peg is cast right into the metal on top of the tripod so it's not removable. I didn't know if the PE200 had some sort of accommodation for that. I'm guessing not, but I thought I'd ask in case you were familiar with it.
Great news. It is difficult to find some of the Celestron tripods but iOptron seems to make several models from the tri-pier or the 8023ACC for their CEM 60 and 70. How can I tell which iOptron tripods this will adapt to? Is there a list somewhere? Thanks again
Would have been better to see a demonstration on the tripods mentioned rather than the verbal description.
agreed would have loved to but sadly I don't have anyone local with those .

That's not a review, it's a sale pitch. I was hoping to see close ups and hands on.
Does the 8-inch high PE200 pier add instability to the system? Sure, wish they made a shorter adapter to attach the AM5 to an iOptron Literock tripod.
not really - the height is helpful to avoid the scope/FW etc impact ing the leg on longer tubes - I have not found that no

I know a few people using it .. yes heavier tripod recommended but I know people are def using the AM5 and 9.25s :)

I think the 1.75 ones that match the cem range ... think they are the literoc ones
@@TeamAstroworkz so something like the “iOptron LiteRoc 1.75" Tripod for CEM40 and GEM45 Mounts - 7623”? Thanks for getting back so quickly
@@marvinwhisman3333 yup that's the ones
Will it fit on a standard photo tripod with 3/8” bolt.
it would be it would be awfully heavy ! esp then loading an AM5 or 3 on it .. don't think I would recommend that
The Zwo website says it’s only for sky watcher EQ 5
