Definitely, my Grandma fled here to Sweden after losing most of her family during the Clydebank Blitz in 1941. She was just lucky that some Norwegians decided to smuggle her, a 13 year old girl and her sister i think she was 9(or 8) at the time, over to Norway and then they ended up seeking asylum in Sweden. She probably would had survived remaining in the UK, but taking refuge in a "neutral" country was the safer option. The bombing of Scotland wasn't as severe as in England proper but it was still devastating. It didn't take long for her to find some purpose, she worked with the White buses helping out refuges who arrived here in Sweden after 1945, there she met my grandpa who was one of the people who drove the buses. I miss my grandma, she was despite everything that happened to her such a bundle of joy to be around.

@@Savethepeople2004 I unfortunately didn't have enough time with my grandparents, at the very least at an age when i could properly comprehend exactly what they went trough. Sure they did tell me the stories but it wasn't exactly a detailed run-down of their experiences.
My grandpa died when i was just 13 years old, my grandma followed just a few months afterwards... Most of the details i know of I've heard from my father or sister(who was old enough). I wished i could had sat down with them and properly talk to them about it, unfortunately it never happened and when you are a sheltered young boy you sort of believe people will always be there and it ain't a rush to hear about things. It wasn't better that my grandpas cancer took him away so suddenly, they discovered it at a late stage and it just took a few weeks before he was gone.
It wasn't better that my grandpa distanced himself from me those last remaining months of his life. A old friend of his did some horrible things to me so i guess he felt a great deal of confusion or shame regarding that matter.

A historical note to make here is that FDR did have to deal with strong political and public objections against participation in the war against Nazi Germany, even when Pearl Harbor had taken place and made war with Japan a fact. It wasn't until Nazi Germany themselves declared war against the US that made the US an active part of the allied axis, its questionable if that wouldn't have happened that the US would not have participated in Europe.

Side note, when you two were talking about FDR and the good things stemming from WW2, you spoke of women entering the workforce largely for the first time, you meant white women. Black women had been working for a while, for much less pay of course. Alao, black americans who fought came back and mist had to fight for their GI Bill benefits, and also came home to the same racism, discrimination, less pay, assaults, and of course didnt benefit much from the new deal programs.
That's also when the second great migration happened. Some 5 million black Americans bailed out of the south for the northeast, mid-west, or the west.
It was a turning point in history for black people, much like the civil rights fight was in the 60's etc.

Yes, America remained a racist and sexist country after WWII. But nearly all would argue that the events of the war started some movements towards equality. When Jackie Robinson started to play in Major League Baseball in 1947 the country was still enormously racist but it began a long and slow process of integration in sports and that helped fuel integration throughout the country and despite racism still being a big problem it would be silly to argue it isn't any better than it was in 1940. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

First semester economy students understand that decisions here have ripples across the globe. At the very least she doesn’t understand how capital works locally and the greater implications of isolating.

I think you are essentially correct. Hitler elaborated in Mein Kampf that it was wrong, as some German Nationalists advocated, to simply enlarge the borders of Gemany, thus creating more "Germans", which is what Owens is saying HItler wanted to do. From what I remember when I read his book, Hitler explicitely thought it was wrong to give citizenship to people who where not ethnic Germans, such as Poles. The non-citizens inside his dreamed-of enlarged Germany were to be subjects, not citizens, and their fates would depend on how the Nazis classified them in their hierarchy and valuing of of 'races'. Candace Owens is not dumb though, just incurious.

I think you made Candace Owens' arguments for her: If the US has stayed out, had just allied with the Nazis, then the US today would be 'better' for Conservatives:
1. Middle class: no massive expansion means the elites wouldn't have had to fight so hard to shrink it and steal all that wealth back.
2. Women in the workplace - never would have happened, all trad wives, churning out little workers.
3. Civil rights act, Voting act, universal declaration of human rights, the United Nations itself all non-existent.
I think we're going to see more of these 'you know what the Nazis got right?' arguments from Conservatives.
