As a musician and an armwrestler I totally get what Evan's saying about alcohol helping his performance. I used to play drums sober and had to learn play them drunk. After years of playing drunk, I had to re-learn to play them sober. Also the state of mind, the flow and feeling can also be easily acquired by alcohol consumption. It can help you get "in the right place" in your head, or just get the right flow going, help with stage - fright etc.... In my own experience, alcohol can help you in both playing intstrument or armwrestling. I'm not saying it's for everyone tho...
Agreed! Alcohol can put you in that sweet spot, but if you consume too much, it's over lol I've played in bands for years and finally came to terms that my playing is sloppy overall while drinking, even after trying to get better at it. Some guys are way different though, and Dimebag was a good example of that.
In terms of focus, yes in some extent considering it's a stimulant but in terms of strength it really doesn't. In your case it seems more of focus/concentration so yes it does help though it may effect differently depending with the person's mental state.

This guy has a very high alcohol tolerance, build up from decades of heavy drinking. A few beers and some vodka will probably calm down any nerves and in return he'll get enhanced focus. Pain tolerance also goes up. Which can be very beneficial. Drunken boxing is a real thing too. But there is a very fine line. Once you cross this line and are completely inebriated, uphill battle.
Alcohol also slows down motor-unit recruitment and reaction time... so it's the reason why people don't use it in sports. But I guess he has very high tolerance it doesn't bother him.

It might actually be a genetic thing, seeing as my dad was a drunk, but I believe it has more to do with tolerance. It takes a few months of constant drinking or smoking weed to build it up. Once you build it up you can THEN use it to an advantage. People have a huge misconception with weed making you dumb because they're not used to it. If you build up a weed tolerance you can start to use that laser focus and increased senses in general. With booze I know I can tap into that aggression and ignore how injured/tired I am easier. I don't drink anymore, but I have practiced both ways when I was drinking or smoking often. Kind of on the same page of being able to build immunity to poisons and diseases, which works the same way for the most part... considering alcohol is literally a poison.
