Ranking truck brands RV towing information - GCWR

- When you're shopping trucks for your new RV most people are not thinking about GCWR - or how much weight the truck can tow. But the GCWR is important, and not all brands make it easy to find! In today's video I rank the main truck manufacturers- Ford, Chevrolet, Ram, Nissan and Toyota on how easy (or hard) it is to find the import GCWR number on their trucks.
Things I talk about in the video:

Jacob, Ford has listed the GCWR along with each axle ratings for a long time. It is on a sticker in the door jamb of all ford vehicles. It is called the Safety Compliance Certification Label. Just trying to help.
I purchased a Chevy HD tow vehicle for the very reason you described in this video. I didn’t know about the Ford link, no one at two dealerships even knew about this apparently. I visited, I believe, 8 dealerships?, when I began shopping. I was told some very outlandish statistics by sales people. At one dealership, ( I won’t tell you it was a Dodge dealer), I was amazed to learn a 1/2 ton was capable of towing a 14,000 lb RV. I came to the conclusion that all dealers want is your money and a proper education isn’t in the deal.
Funny you mention this. I bought a used 2015 GMC. Before I bought it I had the guy I was buying it from send me a picture of the RPO codes and i spent about 2 hours decoding it. Fortunately it had everything I needed to tow my trailer, I can't remember what the GCWR was but I am well within my rating.
I am a mechanic so I already had a clue what I was looking for but for Joe Q Public, what a chore that would have been
Another BRILLIANT video, thank you Jacob!
Thanks for watching! Glad the video was helpful!
Call the dealer's parts department with your vin, and they will give you all the numbers. It worked for me🤷♂️
All my trucks have axle type and ratio tags on the rear differential
Somehow I think actually having to crawl under the vehicle to check some information would rank bottom of the list for this guy.
You’ll reach your maximum payload capacity before you get anywhere close to CGWR on your truck.
Not always, but the payload is typically easy to find. This video is about difficult to find numbers.
@@scottyzWith a camper this will be true 99.9% of the time.
Could you provide the link for the Ford. I like that you talked about it but you didn’t supply it for us. Thanks
Google "ford support towing calculator"
The link to the Ford site would be nice.

You're wrong my 2011 GMC 1500 6.2 max trailering has it on the door jam sticker.
My 24 Ram 3500 HO Cummins doesn't have it on the sticker, has a payload of 3860, tow 23K off hitch & 23,700 GN, 32400 GCWR & it's nearly impossible to get close to the combined with payload.
It's hard to tow anything near a trucks max rating which is best case scenario bc of hitch weights & payload.
If a person isn't smart enough to figure this out they shouldn't be towing.
Why is this critical info not MANDATED by NTSB? For that matter why is OCCC not calculated the same way on RVs?
👍
You left out the Honda Ridgeline! Just kidding we all know the Ridgeline is no more a truck than a Chevy Avalanche.
LOL, true but even the avalanche has a frame :)
Is Ram a truck? Todd from NRVTA doesn’t think so!! 😅. JK Ram fans.
Todd is 100% correct
Anyone with a half of a brain can find RAMS GCWR (and all the other numbers) on their website. In fact, RAM had me sign a piece of paper acknowledging the specific numbers at the dealership before I drove off. Those that can't find this information or don't understand the information shouldn't be towing a camper. RAM had 2 diesel engines, 2 transmissions, and 2 axle ratios for 2019-2024 and it's very easy. For 2025+ there is only one diesel and transmission option. Besides, you'll exceed payload and truck GVWR well before hitting the towing capacity and GVWR.
Ram doesn't appear to want to compete when it comes to towing, at least with recent generations.
Ram really is the worst when it comes to this 😭 they even got rid of their online tool
Could have just stopped at ram is the worst, everything beyond that is true ")
