Okay, I just saw this full-page ad for Gretchen Menn in Guitar Player. So I checked her out. Though Gretchen can play stuff neither Allison nor I could play - I was bored out of my mind, and there was NO soul. The more I watch the Donnas, the more I see that she is the 100 percent real-deal. Full-on rock star guitar player. Not in the Hendrix/Page league, but in the Joe Perry league, at least.
every comment i've seen on youtube about Bretts vocals have all been songs from Gold Medal. the girl can sing, but its obvious she had to put alot of time and effort into these songs that pushed her, so yea its gonna be hard to be flawless on a one take live. LONG LIVE THE DONNAS!
She surely lacks a certain range I would expect of a lead singer. But she's got this IT factor that's SO hot, SO perfect, that she's thrilling to watch and listen to. And as long as she keeps the actual singing above the Mendoza Line, she's the perfect frontwoman for a very exciting band.
i have seen many bands that i love on talk shows, and the sound always sucks...brett has kicked ass everytime i have seen them live in the past ten years
