I am a lawyer by profession and I resigned from my job today(and I didn't tell anyone). I feel sooooo free! Because the career was chosen for me, I never connected with it and I have been miserable for 11 years and struggling to be successful because I felt I was never good enough. But now I have my joy and power back.
It's hard to find out what you want as there are so many options out there, most of which you don't even know. Plus the same job can be completely different just by working in a different company. I think a lot of the time it's about knowing the right people, good timing or just luck.
that's all very true, and yes a lot of it being good is down to providence, but i think we can all do what we can to make our work experience as positive as possible, and that includes "shopping around enough", due diligence and careful thought into choices!
Hi Jean, Same situation.. quit the job two years back and built my own life. Only a few people realize this concept. Keep working to build up someone else life. It's sad to see people selling their valuable lives for a few bucks. Have a great life enjoying! Subscribed.
Jean, some of us never had a choice. We had to take what was offered to us and that usually was one choice, which we had to accept because we needed money to live on!
oh Abbie that's not true i'm sure.... we all have our own strengths if we dig down into it, and we just need to know how to package it and get more opportunities for ourselves. We always have a choice!
@SuiGenerisAbbie I guess what jean meant was that yes we all need money to survive and live on but at times, when we have the money to get by, do we or would we want to change it? Sometimes we humans get into the comforzone of being able to provide for the family and we tend to get stuck in that vicious cycle without us even knowing it and we live a unhappy life 😔
@@thecowegg I did not have money to get by. I needed the only job option I had or else I would have lost more than just my comfort zone. Jean is endearing, isn't she?
Sue we have different life circumstances. But we do have choices , sometimes we do not see them or believe that we can. I wish you the best on your journey.
Thank you for this video. Post covid I left a company I'd been with for 10 years and bounced around a few different roles and am now staring down the barrel of walking away from my corporate career entirely. Hopefully can find a role/career that energises me rather than drains me.
Cheers, I was once at those crossroads too. Here's a useful quote that may help you. "If you're in doubt about something that's not in your life, try it. Things are so different in practice versus in theory. The only way to know is to experience it yourself. ... Err on the side of yes. Try it. If it was a mistake, at least you'll know first-hand, instead of always wondering. If you're in doubt about something that's in your life already, get rid of it. Not just things, this goes for identities, habits, goals, relationships, technology, and anything else. Default to not having it, then see how you do without. ... Err on the side of no. Get rid of it. Start with a clean slate. If it was a mistake, you'll get it back with a renewed enthusiasm." - Derek Sivers
Thank you Jean for taking the time to make this video! this was helpful and reassuring to me in where I find myself at the moment. It came right on time to remind me to follow my heart and wait for the right gut feeling and opportunities ahead instead of rushing for the known for fear!
Hi Ines, glad the video resonated :) I've been in that place before as well - the fear of "missing out" vs the desire to hold out for what we truly want. I did hold out in the end, and i was finally rewarded also w an unexpected job offer in a lateral direction that i ended up really enjoying for 1.5 years. all the best to you!
Same, I had childhood trauma so always had my mind on a “normal” and hardcore job as a ticket out. It worked for a while, until the trauma caught up w me, & I “settled” for some jobs I didn’t care for. Now, I’m trying to finish my upper-level degree & truly soul-search to find a job I love for this latter part of my life :) Thank you for your perspective!!
You don't need an advanced degree to follow your passion. That's still Matrix thinking regarding "legitimate" work where you need "credentials." You can create your own business showcasing your talents.
I work with a lot of lawyers in my company and some of them I would say don't have healthy family lives e.g. sleeping in the office for days and even sometimes weeks during large transactions. And all they do is read and analyze legal documents. I feel sorry for their husbands and kids 😞
thank you Nicky, I'm glad the video resonated with you and was useful! It made a lot of sense to me when i came across that point about how we view and define our strengths too. So important to do what appeals to our inner nature as opposed to opposing!
I think im stuck in between the phase of trying to understand my purpose in life. I have goals but it cost money to want to achieve and obtain them. With doing so I need a job to fund my goals. I'm stuck trying to find my purpose because I spent last year working for a company where I lost myself and my happiness. Now in my 30's no kids im just depressed not knowing if anything in life makes me happy.
@rasjeidwade225: What is your dream that costs money? Another degree? I think that's a trap. If you are an artist or have spiritual gifts, it's better to acknowledge that and go from there rather than fit into a world that is cookie-cutter and not unique for your needs.
Hi Jean, I will be finishing up my studies and just received my first full time offer, I had an interview with the manager and really our conversation went well, and he was impressed with what I do. The job description sounds exactly like what I enjoy doing, and the location is really beautiful. I can also see myself working in the team. The only downside is the salary, it is very minimal. I have been struggling to give him an answer. Do you have any advice for me?
Hi girl, I’m not a professional career counselor, but I’ll share what I’ll do for myself in the situation in case it helps. Beyond a certain level money ceases to hold much meaning, but at the other end of the spectrum I do think it makes all the difference. If ur starting take already is that it’s “very minimal” it sounds like either u feel ure worth more and/or it’s not enough to cover your living costs. Either way that’s not gonna work no matter how great the rest of the job is. U cd figure out how much more is needed for you to accept the offer happily. Then go back to him, tell him about how u feel re the rest of it (v eager etc etc) but convey your salary concerns and ask if he can work out a package to meet your requests. If nothing else u will get good experience and respect from him over this communication, if u handle it properly. No loss if the offer goes away in the end. On original terms it was never going to work out well. We shdnt be working for minimal wage. It causes discontentment in the soul. I know the job market out there is hard too, but I also believe there r many combinations of swinging things one can do to get a happy balance (part time, free lance, entrepreneur, travel, other industries), n sometimes u never know what the universe has planned for u in the end even though your present moment isn’t easy. It may just be a part of the journey to smtg really nice at the end. Just my 2 cents, hope it helps though bear in mind my take is based on my personality…. U hv to consider who u r n what truly makes u happy n stable

Jean seems the type of woman men are searching for. Strong yet, nurturing and feminine. Capable but loving. Men don't need a woman who make millions of dollars but, make millions of smiles and memories. They want a companion who makes them happy and content. A good meal also helps!
Singaporeans' parents place high expectations on their children on career advancements, achievements and climbing the corporate ladder. How did you manage to overcome and convince them to allow you to enjoy your life in Bali?
Hi Jean, I hope you're doing well. I wanted to compliment you on your fantastic RUclips channel and the awesome video content you create. Your presentation skills are simply fantastic! However, I wanted to bring to your attention that your channel's SEO optimization performance could use some improvement. By addressing this, your videos will organically reach your targeted audience through the RUclips algorithm, resulting in more subscribers and views. Feel free to reach out if you need assistance. I'm here to help you. Best regards, Rezaul Bari
I don't have a background in law, but I know it is a lot of paper work. Also we have to pick a job that really makes us happy on with our coworkers and income as well. Jean you are correct just because you are good at something does not mean you are passionate about it. This is why I love your channel. Jean do you have telegram?
Hi Dominic! Happy Sunday! V uses Telegram but its kinda lost on my generally older friends and family circle so i don't use it - no point haha! Glad the video resonated with you, and happy Sunday! have a good week ahead on your end :)
