To give some context: All those robots are human engineered weapons that are as you said, clones, made for war. All of them wear a type of that suit and are part of the "iron calvary". However, this is the kind of legion that is absolutely heartless. Known rules are as followed
Article 1: Knights should feel honored to be born.
    Article 2: Remain on guard.
Article 4: Leaving the cockpit is strictly prohibited.
Article 8: Surviving Knights should immediately return to their units.
Article 22: Knights must give all they have to Her Majesty, the queen. Including their lives.
You can see here, it's mostly born to fight, then forced to fight, and then only death will be the end.
However, Glamoth's "empire" is sort of fake. The empress is basicly a hivemind of all the units that telepathically commanded and controlled the knights. In their dreams, the sole meaning of their existance is to guard this fake empress and the empire. However, this non existent empire fell, probably due to the percentage of old humans in Glamoth's territories falling below a certain percantage. After this whole endless war of death, there's just remains of mechas and insect limbs in the star system of Glamoth, floating around as debris

@@Zolwiol They are basicly clones though. Genetic build up is likely similair enough to them being classified as "clones". They have different looks to distinguish identity, like the glasses girl said. It's also worth noting Firefly's hair is longer than most, because she has survived longer, making her also unique

The reason they live and die is for Glamoth as Living weapon. They were used to the Swarm and the Swarm almost ended the universe since they keep on mulitplying that multiple Aeons(Gods) needed to band together to the Swarm. Firefly now wants to be more than a weapon she wants to be “Firefly” not as “Sam” (PS: Sam is the name of the armor she’s using to disguise herself and and fight with!)

Firefly is a Stellaron Hunter, and of the new characters in Penacony, she's arguably the most important, comparable only to Acheron in terms of story. She was a genetically engineered clone of the Glamoth Iron Calvary, which was created to fight against the Swarm, the creation of the Aeon of Propogation, Tazzyronth. This takes place roughly 4700 years before the current timeline of Honkai Star rail. As far as we know, Firefly is the only survivor of the Glamoth Empire.
Glamoth was a large empire that came under invasion of the Swarm. These soldiers use S.A.M. suits to fight off the never ending Swarm. However, Glamoth purposefully engineered these clone soldiers to never have long lives. These soldiers were given orders telepathically by a genetically engineered "Empress". Glamoth was one of the few civilizations to actually succeed in holding back the Swarm for a very long period of time. However, the fighting came at a cost. The constant fighting caused so much spacial debris that Glamoth's sunlight was eventually blocked from the planet. Also, the "Empress" rebelled against Glamoth's government after revealing the governments mjstreatment of her and the S.A.M. soldiers. The planet fell not long after that due to all these issues.
From birth, these soldiers were only made to fight, and only seen as weapons. They weren't even given names. Firefly's unit name was AR-26710, and the name Firefly was probably only something she gave herself after this event. These soldiers were forbidden from ever taking of their armor out in the field, and in a previous trailer, we know that there are different types of S.A.M. suits.
All soldiers are afflicted with Entropy Loss Syndrome, a condition that will cause their physical structure and senses to slowly deteoriate if they stay outside their S.A.M suits for too long. Essentially, they are trading life force for power.
This animated short shows one of the last battles of Glamoth's Iron Cavalry. They were given directives to keep fighting even if their home planet fell. Firefly ends up as the only confirmed survivor of Glamoth. It seems that blast of power that enabled her to destroy a planet kept her in stasis for 4700 years, so she didn't age while she was floating through space all that time. Elio directed Kafka through the "script" to find Firefly here.
Firefly's goal in Penacony is to find a cure for her ELS so she can live as a normal girl. Having long been freed of Glamoth's control, she wants to decide her own life. However, as long as she is afflicted by ELS, she won't ever be able to leave her S.A.M. suit for very long. She and the Trailblazer became very close during Penacony, and given that she's a Stellaron Hunter, we will see her again in the future.

Adding to what everyone else said, SAM is both a weapon Firefly uses, and a shackle on her very being. She wants to cease being defined by it, and instead live her life as herself, all the way to its end whenever or however that may be. It’s because, since she was genetically developed specifically to pilot the SAM mech, she is unable to dream, which is a valuable human experience, and she expresses that all she is ever good for is destruction. She wants to be more than just that, and our time with her in Penacony has her admit that, even though Penacony itself is a dreamscape, her experience in it with us is real, something she’ll treasure forever.
With Firefly and her background, I get vibes that are a mix between Nier Automata and 86, both stories dealing with themes about how it’s pointless to fight depending on who deploys you in the first place, and how one ultimately should choose to fight for something other than a nation that may be disregarding your existence.

The soundtrack in Firefly animation is closely resembled with Eighty-Six (86) anime soundtracks, titled "Hear My Voice", composed by Kohta Yamamoto. Both tracks have the piano and "Long roll" drum being played for the main buildup of the soundtrack, and both tracks have that motif resemble Hope and departure for the fallen soldier, and to those who still march on.

I highly suspect that everything after the explosion is highly metaphorical, rather than literal. Hoyo likes to really show metaphor visually, like internal conflict shown by a character fighting their alternate form, and the tree growing out of nowhere and the instantaneous planet destruction doesn't exactly make much sense as a literal action, but metaphorically its a much more easy to understand.

2: 29 My favorite moment. She's in awe, in shock. She's not even a firm believer and she joins in on the pledge because what else can you do when your comrade goes completely and utterly last stand on an insane behemouth of...bad. The whole situation is primal, and her reaction to the sheer heaviness of it all is to react with what is at the core of her existence; and for her it's being a Glamoth Knight, for better or worse.
Going through something like that is bound to give you a flash of insanity in the moment. Love that she looses it like that. Perfect absolute cinema moment.

One bit of the Tree scene that always struck me: They make sure that the last soldier to die, collapsed in seiza, is still in the frame and facing the tree as it grows.
Like a Believer praying to their God. Which, given the surge of Abundance-tinted flames, feels appropriate. Not to mention the unspoken desire based off the other short, that they do in fact desire at least some amount of freedom. A wish that Firefly possibly inherited as the last of their kind.

Firefly has been floating in space for thousands of years by the time Kafka finds her.
Kafka is led there by Elio, as Firefly has some importance to the script, where she picks her up and makes her apart of their family.
All the clones are made up of the genetic material from the "Empress" but the Empress is a lie.. what the clones fight for is a lie.
They are engineered to degrade rapidly overtime so Glamoth didn't have to worry about a uprising. Thats why they are all so young.

The Swarm (bugs) began propagating rapidly, infecting living organisms which then became hosts. Eventually they were a force large enough to destroy the Glamoth solar system.
Glamoth's Iron Cavalry (mechs), were created to combat the swarm, but eventually they lost.
The way they portrayed the character's desperate exhaustion and unwavering devotion to the mission during the battle was insanely well done. When she repeats the creed seemingly out of reflex "For Her Majesty", even as she's emotionally torn, sent chills down my spine

Act 3: The Rebirth is more vibrant which represents life.

Everyone's already said it all in the comments here. But the long and short of it is that our main character here- Firefly, is a member of the Iron Cavalry. They are a group of soldiers created explicitly for the purpose of fight back against "The Swarm". The Swarm are those beetles you see in this trailer. It's a tragic story because these girls live as weapons with no further purpose. And they were all genetically infused with "Entropy Loss Syndrome" as a failsafe to ensure they cannot be used for other purposes.
Whats funny is that the ending of this trailer calls into question previously established lore in regards to certain chronological events. But that is a topic not for here and now.

This is the second trailer in a series, even without knowing anything about her you would know enough by watching the previous one. They're all clones biologically engineered to pilot that power armour. But instead of being engineered to be strong they were made with superhuman reflexes, eyesight and processing speed to make them the perfect pilots. It worked too, Glamoth were the only ones to win against the swarm without divine intervention but by then they had lost their interstellar empire. The propagation swarm exists only to spread and turn everything into themselves, kind of like Tyranid or Zerg.

The Swarm Disaster happened in Amber Era 13XX, and the present era is 2162 (im sure someone will correct me on the current one of im off). Since each Amber Era is between roughly 70-250 years ling. This means that Firefly was floating in the debris of the planet she destroyed for roughly 7,000 to over 10,000 years before Kafka finds her.
