We backed away and tried to talk it off the trail for over 100 yards. We had bear spray ready but since no aggressive behavior was displayed, I didn’t use it. It got about 5 yards away from us when he finally, and gracefully, bounded up into the woods. If he had gotten within 5 yards, I would’ve sprayed him regardless. Nature is lit.
Whew glad you both took the precaution. Being on hikes like these always can be a reminder that nature is NATURE, you're vulnerable out there but it sure is beautiful.
@@a7suspended4 it depends on the bear. This was a black bear so it’s recommended to make lots of noise and to try and appear large and menacing. If it does try and attack, fight back. If it’s a Grizzly bear (hump on shoulders, dished in face and short/round ears), you should back away and make sure your presence is known. If the grizzly bear is aggressive, drop a backpack and try to remove yourself from the situation (he’ll hopefully be curious and examine the backpack). As a last resort for a grizzly, play dead, curl up in a ball and cover your neck, then wait for it to go away. All in all - carry bear spray.
The amount of people who are claiming this to be a brown bear is pretty funny. If you are trying to judge a bear species by its color, you really should not go in the woods.
Well done.. So refreshing to see someone stay calm, composed and working WITH nature. Glad you had spray at the ready but wasn't necessary. Neat video and again, thanks for being a GREAT example.
I am really glad you guys had the ability to keep the calmness in the little universe you were in. Thank you so much for explaining the situation during the walk. Calm Energy within the universe is a great thing to achieve!!!🦍🐆🐅🐻❄️🐻🌍
I am beyond terrified of Bears. To me there could be no worse ending then being eaten alive by a grizzly monsters. If we're them I'd likely collapse in fear.
if you are in bear country it's quite unwise to not have firepower, bear spray can be counterproductive if the wind is crazy, might just blind you while the bear mauls you. don't underestimate mother nature
You do realize bear spray is a statistically much more effective than firearms right? I own guns, ccw, ect Been hiking for a long time and few just fine with a can of bear spray. Safer and lighter for everyone.
For starters, that will trigger the bear's prey drive and make it *more* likely to chase you. Secondly, bears can run over 30 mph, so you'll only die tired
In black bear country a park ranger informed me that brown (Grizzly) bears will false charge and retreat to test you. But not black (they come in a variety of colors) bears. When they charge you, they WILL attack.
Brown bears are very territorial and protective of their babies. So often their aggression displays are just to chase you off. Black bears are not so territorial and actually mother black bears are not very protective of their cubs. So when a black bear is charging you, it's likely because it wants you for food, not to get you out of the area.
I was once hiking with my wife and kids in the woods. We had bear spray with us, I had a 🗡️and black cat fire works. A black bear came out the woods just like in your video walking towards us, reach for my fire works lit it up threw it in front of it, that bear 💩 itself while running as fast as superman back in the woods, I still remember it.
Whatever you do Just don’t run walk or stay still but if you don’t feel comfortable walk not fast but slowly it will understand you don’t want anything to do with it but run if you wanna get eaten alive
I've seen a vid of a bear approaching to motorcyclists revving their motorcycles, it spooked the bear at first but the bear just started approaching again after a bit. Somemtimes loud noises don't always work especially if the bear hasnt had a meal in a while
For everyone watching this: talking to a potential predator which is following you in a calming and inviting voice, and talking about how beautiful the bear is, is not the right move. From the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources: "If a bear follows you, act boldly: yell, raise your arms and throw things directly at it. The more persistent a bear is, the more aggressive you need to be. If you have bear spray, use it. If a bear attacks or tries to make contact, fight for your life."
Black bears can range from a blonde/cinnamon coloring to black. You can tell it’s a black bear because of the elongated/pointed ears, longer face, curled claws and absence of a hump. A grizzly bear would have shorter-rounded ears, a dished in face, straighter claws and a hump on its shoulders.
Why do people always say “Hey bear” in all these bear sighting videos? Did a bear expert tell them that that prevents you from getting killed? And why not “WHOA!” or “BACK IT UP!” or “GRRRRR!” (not that I think any of this will work) but why specifically “Hey Bear” in every bear video? Is it just an involuntary reaction when you see one you say “Hey Bear”? It sounds as if they are persistently trying to greet the bear and that his name is in fact, Bear.
True, but it’s good to remember that there’s less than 1 black bear attack per year in the US on average. Statistically dogs and bees etc are much more dangerous.
You wanna bet? Bear spray has been proven more effective at stopping a charging bear than a gun (because you don't have to aim it or be very accurate, and wounded bears are far more dangerous than bears with a snout full of pepper spray.)
If you think that then I hope you never go to bear territory….because chances are you’ll try to shoot it and your shot wouldn’t be accurate and you’re gonna lose your life all cause you wanted to be ignorant…..bear spray is 10x safer than a firearm…..over 50% of cases that involved firearms the bear left the person injured…..98% of bear spray encounters, no one was injured….do the math bucko . Bear spray is a stopper dropper and I guarantee it would work on a human 🤣🤣🤣🤣 .
Nope. I had bear spray directed at him the entire time. We were more than prepared. We were also making noise the entire time. I explain the entire situation in a comment
Why does everyone say hey bear? If u trying to scare someone away u do it like u a marine drill instructor especially if I'm gonna be eaten by a bear I'm not gonna talk to it like I'm grizzly man
I was just trying to stay calm, but in hind sight It probably would’ve been beneficial to be more assertive. Especially since it was a black bear. But everything worked out in the end

Now come on, this might of been a warning shot situation, but no need to kill the bear. This might actually be an acceptable time for bear spray. Then if that don't work, the 10mm comes out
Little trigger happy, Glade Goodrich? No need for that based on this footage. Bear needs to get where he's going and some people happened to cross paths with it.

“Just calm down”. Saying that to a woman is more dangerous than the bear
