The Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital in New Delhi, one of India’s largest hospitals that only treats coronavirus cases, is so overwhelmed by Covid-19 cases that patients are being placed two to a bed. India had reported record-high cases of more than 200,000 new infections on April 16, 2021, as the country continues to battle a second coronavirus wave.

Its not only during corona...During most times govt hospitals are overflowing...But now even privates are overflowing...Now middle class are seeing what poor go through in govt hospitals..no beds,less time by doctors for patients...But yes respect for health workers irrespective of govt and private all are working hard
That's not true. I'm an Indian and here hospitals are rejecting patients telling them to go somewhere else. Many patients are losing their lives on ambulance or on their way to hospitals. Those patients which could have been saved. Hospitals only admit those who are not so serious, those on the verge of death are left to die coz no hospital wants to take the responsibility of a mortality
They have to take them in or else their family will attack the hospital with machetes or clubs. Don't you know anything about India ?
All thanks to our government who is busy in election and not improve the health system even are after 1 year.

2 Months ago i was infected by Covid-19 n hospitalized for almost 1 Month (from February - March). What's happening in India makes me so sad. When I was sick it feels so uncomfortable even i get 1 big bed,, i can't imagine sharing my bed for another patient like in india 😭

These doctors, nurses and healthcare workers are the real heroes working under such trying conditions. Kudos to them. If only their politicians spent less time than thumping their chest about how great they are in geopolitical matters and spending more time fixing these issues.

This is so frustrating. There was no need to host the Kumbh mela and the election rallies. 1000 people tested positive in a day. Some states like Bengal are not even reporting the cases. People are crazy. They are putting others in risk as well

Staying at home can really make a lot of difference. But we cannot blame those who need to go outside just to provide for their family's needs. Salute to the doctors and nurses who do their best to treat all of the patients despite lack of enough space and resources. We really can't blame people who are forced to go out just so they can give their family food. That's why people who don't need to go out, shouldn't go out, they should prioritize their safety not parties or travelling.

All Government had to do is to restrict unnecessary public gatherings which had no impact on the economy but our Indian government was itself indulged in the conducting election rallies and festival celebrations. My exams are going on so I went to college yesterday and most of the people outside weren't wearing masks. It's so frustrating to see people in India taking Covid so casually. And I was shocked on seeing even educated people not wearing masks.
I feel so agitated on seeing people roaming without masks whereas I myself am scared to death to go to college to appear for exams.

Post graduates and house surgeons should do straight 24 hours / 36 hours duty even in normal days. Bcoz of this corona their life is more miserable. Only the senior professors spend little time.

As an Indian I can relate my family took all precautions and we don't know how my father got it but he did and so did my family, my mother had it fully spread in her body so she went to the hospital and some patients were on the ground and it was hectic she said but luckily she is doing great now. Please be careful guys

The vaccine doesn’t stop you getting the virus. It just helps reduce the symptoms. You can still get covid after the vaccine and still spread it to some who doesn’t have the vaccine
@JL H Cancer cells can't be killed by the immune system . Immune system only Develops antibodies against certain antigens only when the body is attacked by it once. So if you get covid for the first time, the immune system won't be able to finish it , medical treatment is needed.
@JL H I didn't say we should take care of immune system only when we get sick. Immune system should be strong always. Like , I eat nutritious food everyday. More than 14 days ago, I was in contact with covid person for an hour without masks as I knew him. 2 days later when I found out that he is positive, I got a lil scared. I knew my immune system was strong but I still took immunity pills. I didn't get covid, I don't know if it was due to my immune system or the virus from the other person never entered my body. But you are right that immunity should be strong, I never meant that it shouldn't be before one gets sick.

Yup, people in India initially think they were immune and refuse to wear mask or wear them inappropriately. This becomes the situation today. The problem gets exacerbated with larger population where social distancing is harder to enforce.
They will never understand. The second wave is thankfully becoming flatter each week however healthcare is overwhelmed. I hope that this situation wont arise in any other country, most importantly countries with the same/ worse level of infrastructure

India has actually done a phenomenal job of containing the pandemic compared to the US (where I live). It has had only 173,000 deaths compared to our 560,000 despite having 4 times the population. That's impressive by any standard.
