- Welcome to the Scrapyard. Space Engineers where what you can't build, you must find.
Curious about the audio? We've been utilising Remaarn's Teamspeak plugin for Space Engineers to communicate with each other while getting positional audio without the glitching that is common with the inbuilt system :)

this series was my gateway drug to splitsie, now i’ve nearly gotten through AA and started the impossible series and i can’t stop watching
Same
Maybe is better imo. Definitely recommend. AA, Wrong Way Up, and Survival Maybe are the top 3 for me.
Impossible is incredible and where I started. It's a lot like Scrapyard. But Unlikely is a classic, one of the best series on RUclips.
Survival Unlikely for me. It's their longest series, intro to Capac, 3 seasons heavily edited (in a good way) plus you'll become acquainted with some of the best ships from the channel that get referenced from time to time. Highly recommend.
I recommend Survival Maybe!
Tbh, the flyer looks more like a vulture now, pretty appropriate for a scavenger.
Either way loving the look of it!
I was thinking the same, a Golden Vulture
:)
A gilded vulture looking for that nugget of gold buried in the sand.
i was thinking of the name osprey like the v22 osprey lol
I dont even want to play regularly after watching the challenging ways you need to build in here.
This is so true. I can’t play without some type of mod because the base game isn’t that great
Though it still is a good game
Awe the bigger flyer platform could have been called the tender, like a chicken tender
yea .. and really cheap one is just LG solar panel grabbed via magplates :D
This scenario that you have created is far too addicting. I can't get enough. I play the scenario as well and I must say, well done! 👏👏. Floating around space waiting for a good spawn, "Is that ion thrusters I see? Don't mind if I do." 😁
I'd honestly LOVE a episode all about the base, just tidying it up, repairing the buildings and making it look better.
It's about damn time they added truss beams. I love spaceship designs with lots of antennas and blinking red lights.
i like that you include your mistakes on building your ship, as it is so easy to do
Yeah! I also like to see how he fix things. Small lessons and ideas... 😄
You can probably have a cargo module that gets sandwiched between the merge blocks on the headless chicken and nugget sections. You can call it the stuffing.
I love the "like nothing ever happened" at 38:15 - that just asks for a soundbyte.
Small thrusters only have 1 block range of damage. Ours are spaced 1 block each, and had no issues. But may still be good to have more room if you intend to undock and dock back to the thing.
Number of thrusters and batteries is similar to our rig, so it will likely lift up to 175tons to 150m high, or 150tons over the mountains. (weight includes flier itself)
I'd suggest building a platform between the forks for when you need to leave the cockpit mid flight. Or if you press F by accident.
For cargo, how about couple of those barrels at the sides? Not everything have to be piped ;)
Oh, good point. A few barrels could look quite nice 🙂
Man, I'm really loving these Sunday morning releases. Wake up, grab some breakfast, and sit down to watch Splitsie :p
I need these more often. I am checking for the new one constantly.
Been looking for it all week.
Cargo on the side of the batteries. And i suggest an antenna and remote control, you never know when you're gonna accidently get out of the cockpit at some sort of elevation
I think he already put an antenna and a remote on the nugget part last episode
39:45 I also enjoy the engineering aspect of Space Engineers even if it seems like Keen are not fans of it themselves. I want to have to build things like cranes and other utility vehicles to eventually build a ship with them.
I really like how games like Interstellar Rift did cargo. Cargo in that game is pretty much always a PHYSICAL thing you have to put on cargo pads and stuff. I want to have to take a crane and load the cargo containers on my ship in many scenarios. I find that so much more satisfying and actually adds a challenge that is not just thrust on a cube = win. I do find it odd that the game was released with not very much actual gameplay in it. Oxygen is not difficult. Pressurization of environments is not necessary for pretty much anything. There is no food. The "game" aspect of this game is pretty lacking compared to its "lego" set feel.
Suggestion: If you separate large thrusters by 3 blocks between and rear ones move slightly back, you can bring them back (shrink the wing span) by 1 block or 2 making the way for the left and right thrusters exhaust, and also, you will have a room for one more directional thruster on each side and make it 3 instead of 2, they are also down one block compared to the middle point of large ones.
Love the series btw keep up great stuff Splitsie
As a way to conserve battery life on the Chicken:Nugget, you could either disable the large (or Nugget's lifting thrusters) until you're actually lifting something.
A couple medium cargo containers in the "elbows" of the Chicken's wings might just fit without lateral thruster issues.
Hey Splitsie, if headless chicken doesnt work, just call it the dulahan. Headless knight
If you are going to send the crane out after something you should have a spot to plug the nugget into. Or even a new chassis for the nugget to connect to. Make it all Diaclone where the cockpit is interchangeable with other vehicles. Crain, flyer, miner etc. One cockpit a fleet of vehicles.
[8:44] Ah yes, the reliable transponder snail
Splitsie says "eeehhhy" so many times this episode that I feel like I'm watching an episode of "Happy days."
lol :D
alternate title: Splitsie learns to lift with his legs
Idea: hook up the street lights with action relay blocks so you can have them turn on and off based on proximity to the base!
I was thinking that too. And have a central script/timer/event that switches them off at night 🙂
Do love the idea of "exchanging whole light bulbs tho"
Same here, having a hard time finding trains (only found 1 in a week), but the "skeleton sky handler" I made with 4 large (small-grid) thrusters for lift looks promising, it managed to fly home with a large crane "strapped" under it (so I think i could fly a bridge home with the trains on it), still thinking to convert it "vector thrust" setup. Tough the default size of the planet limits the usefulness of any atmo-flyer do it can barely reach 500m altitude.
As a player in scrapyard mode... once you got aerial, The search is way easier covering so much more ground !
to be fair, a little work on the Base to make walls/roofs complete if a bit rusty.
the Telehandler is handy for many things, but there are still times when a Static SG Crane with full articulation is just better.
suggestion = the front pair of lift Thrusters could go a block or two forward to clear the side thrusters.
the back pair can be flipped to the back of the wing arm spreading your lift thrusters out making them less vulnerable of having several taken out at once.
You could easily make a cargo module to fix the issue and keep the design efficient for both roles of transport. Maybe something that wraps around the bottom like a Hornet stinger that connects to your back connecter, heck you could put a grinder or something on the end to add functionality, that way you keep center mass. Then when you don't need it you can detach it and focus on it's ability to lift full grids.
@Splitsie - you can always add a couple barrels to the Nugget's landing struts. That may be plenty of cargo without too much alteration...
Nice bin chicken, although personally I'd have raised the large thrusters up a bit so they were above the side thruster. That way they could be closer to the main body.
flyer is now looking like one of those centre of gravity toys that you hook onto the edge of a glass
At around 33:00, where the cryopod was found...
Don't know if it's possible, but if you could put a suit (body, statue, mannequin, etc.) inside, you could roleplay that you are selling Capac to the highest bid. Seems like it could be a cool decoration or conversation starter ("...oh this? Yeah, it's just my Capac...").
:)
@Splitsie, I think the truss blocks are a perfect way to reinforce the ‘wings’ while improving their look.
Jumping makes it work because the jump is a force imparted on your character and that force is transferred through the grabby hand plugin the same way walking is. It's a larger force and the plugin is probably set up to do things cumulatively.
Though it works well as a parking space for the telehandler, I recall that shed being at one point intended for a disposable scout vehicle, which would still be interesting to see - after all, every vehicle sent on that first polar expedition was lost save one, and other meetings require travel over long, dangerous distances too.
20:59 I think we lost something.
29:17 Finally seeing the cargo plane, it's a lot stubbier than I expected. Its tail and wings are still really nicely designed.
The flier I will have to agree with another comment about reminding me more of a vulture than a chicken. Or if you want to go another route, the forks of its landing skid would work well as talons. It definitely needs a little integrated catwalk you get into it from, so that you can use it as a mobile platform when you get out of it in midair; and another such walkway near its survival kit if that gets added - if you suffer a lethal fall from it and need to retrieve it, it would be no good for the respawn point to also be equally high in the air.
I would recommend putting 2 large atmo thrusters in the front and 2 in the back. Make it look like a quadcopter. Evenly spaced out and it leaves room in-between for the left-right thrusters. 😁
I was trying to avoid the quadcopter look, I wanted something a little bit different since it's a style that's very common these days :)
What you could do in the future, if you want storage and a survival kit on it, its make modules you can connect as needed, sorta like the Tug-O-War from the AA serise, but more, flush with the original design, so instead of looking tossed on, it sort of continues the shape of the chicken, but going backward.
The nugget probably only needs a couple of small cargo containers on the "Skids" as you may only want a couple of bits and pieces, and then pipe it up to the connector.
If you put a small connector on a telehandler and a small connector temporarily on a light post, you can drive around a push charge into them.
That flyer did not look the way I had envisioned when you described it before. Also, I would add at least a bit of cargo for important bits that you might need like motors, medical components, battery components, ect... Then, once you get some more thrusters, maybe you can make another module for it that gives it more storage, more power, and maybe even a place to set larger items. You could even call it "The Nest" and have it be the place where The Headless Chicken stores all of it's scavenged bits.
Looks like i am chopping up my existing flyer to make this module in the morning... Way cooler looking..
The slight slope is why I prefer the Sci-Fi Thrusters over the original.
Now looking more like a gull or buzzard, if you keep with the Chicken name, though, we'll have some fun when it... Clucks...
Loving it. Maybe some extensible outrigger support for the crane one day ? :)
That flyer is a LOT smaller than I thought you were going for.
I thought it was going to be a floating platform to lock stuff to, possibly with its own crane.
Honestly that thing is small enough it could have just been all one piece.
And slapping a single medium cargo on that wouldn't be hard, just move the connector out a touch.
I thought something similar. Only instead of a crane, I thought the Nugget would be the thing to pick stuff up and put in onto the platform.
A dump truck might be a good thing to collect small grid blocks with.
Maybe with a lid, so that nothing falls out.
that's just inviting klang episodes,
The RBLF asks for a moment of silence for the Two Innocent Batteries wantonly Murdered by the Criminal Splitsie before they could serve their purpose in life of giving power… Such a terrible shame… 😢😢😢😢😢
Maybe you should put a couple heavier blocks at the back of the tellihandler so you can lift more with out tipping
awesome really like this series great job
Thanks :)
Nice vulture😊
you could call that flyer the "chooksie" if you wanted to continue the theme of the liftsie
I just watched this and I had an idea you might like. Since the nugget can search for scrap quicker than the crane, why not design the nugget to place a beacon where the crane can go to pick up scrap the nugget can't.
@42:40 Use build vision to toggle the merge block off and on. Usually works for me.
Project creep due to creative enthusiasm can be an issue, however in regards to your lift crane, I think a wrist rotor can be justified. After all, the lift crane is not merely a lift and carry machine. Anything that is regularly used to connect merge blocks is going to benefit from added range of motion.
38:00: hey that cheating! :D 42:00 what helped me a lot was remote control & anthena on crane, so i can see better whant im doing ....
@5:44 It kind of looks like a light bulb though :P You'd have a "bulb" you have to change out once a month :P
It does, but it also feels like a lot of extra pain :P
Grinder pit! Bring full trucks back grab the parts you want off and toss rest in the pit for disposal.
45:00 I guess he doesn't plan on adding more batteries ...
I hope the idea with the gaate continues, sin e it sounds very interesting
Splitsie: keeping the theme of modular vehicles, why not make a head for the telehandler that can rotate? you can swap them in and out via the hinge. for day-to-day work keep the current one, but swap out to the rotor one when you need to do building like this.
You can make the tally a bit heavier by putting 2 batteries cloaser to the rear and a few smal armoured blocks.
the bars on the bottom of the flyer kind of remind me of a forklift, you have a flying forklift. you are flying forklift certified
The Headless chicken-nuget😂
you could make a second part to the flyer with 2 or 4 exstra thrusters and some cargo containers ... and add to the current build, so you have various options for useage ( fly and grind / collect ) or just recon and pickups
I love these vids i wish my computer could actually run this game
the rear of the flyer looks like a screaming chicken once the gyros got put on lmao
When you find mor trusters and feel that the chicken is missing something you could maybe replace the connector with another merge block and create another modul that would add cargo and lifting capacity.
Also remamber that connectors can hold decent cargo themselfs
On the base design I think it would be cool to add the constuction crane that you can find out in the world. I think you could use it to hold the sign you want maybe it can be even on it. And there is always potential to make it usable as yard crane or when you want to position your aquired buldings, whole cars and what not
I think that you should build another crane that's smaller just for the base
should've used the new lamp posts for the sled on the flyer. and maybe to attach the thruster assembly to the main fuselage.
well technically headless chickens still jump around xD
that light pole you were making gave me an idea about storage.. making the storage hang from some poles ( pre packaged ) all you'd need is to lift them straight up to the magnet and they stick.. out of the way. a new way of storage if you will. hope you can get use out of this idea i had splitsie.
Calling it the Dodo and the Egg would also have been funny. A little bit derpy, a bit less morbid. 😅
looks like you have to make a small crane for more articulation but at the same size as the telehandler
You could name the modules like sauces, ketchup, BBQ, Honey mustard etc.
After all, what do you do with nuggets?
Also gives you color schemes for each one.
I chose to not put storage on my flying thing. I just picked up a storage container with my landing gear if I need to get scrap parts or ice. That way you can have the best of both worlds.
What if you have a gantry crane that can track over the building area that can lift up most to any vehicle in its space
I think this is a record amount of time in a series to achieve reliable flight.
lol You mean this is one of the fastest times? :D
The flyer kinda looks like a Hornet from Halo
The RBLF notes that the Splitsie still does not understand that he should Always be looking for Batteries. Especially Red Batteries… Until he does, he will continue to fail… 😂😂😂😂😂
ive noticed that things fall through the world more often if it is not attached, was building a ship on land came back and it was gone 2wice, hence dont crash anything and come back to repair
Would be so cool if the small lift vehicle could rotate its wheels to be able to strafe into position :)
Large grid with the small element may work for any passage archways - ie at your enterance with angled ones
Maybe this is a noob-sh idea but here it goes: what if you create detachable "heads" to your telehandler? Then you can mag-plate them in walls and detach the rotor when not in use. You could have one for yawn, one for pitch, etc. At least the complexity stays at one axis.
I think you might regret not having some cargo capacity. Not anything significant like with your crane, but just somewhere to stash bits and bobs from sites it's not really worth driving back out to.
Have a look at the sikorsky sky crane helicopter, it might be a good scorce of inspiration for the flyer you're thinking about building.
I know *you know* this.. but.. You CAN put all the upward thrusters asymmetrically. So you have one whole side of the chicken to be dedicated to attaching and lifting that is completely safe from thruster burn.
I find asymmetrical lifters can be very awkward to control, just the visual signals for direction being more subtle makes it feel worse
@@Splitsie Good thing you never seen my sky crane from back in the day then..
You would look at it and ask HOW on earth that works...
The only answer would have been "Space Engineers Physics" ..
Realistic Thrusters mod would have killed me.
Would you be able to make an in depth video explaining how to setup and use the inventory system you use for your ships and bases? Me and my friends have figured out some stuff but have not been able to get some of the commands to work.
Pull those panels off the batteries you used to cover the emblem and add searchlights over them.
i think a "carry-all" type craft from dune II the game would have been awesome :) but maybe that's just me
about that power issue, maybe locking the front part to the carrier part could disable the upward lift small thrusters ?
Your flyer is looking rather menacing, but in a good way...?... I kind of think you need to make a couple of mini drone ones, that you can remote control to pick up small items from inside the buildings you are looting. You could call them Popcorn Chickens...
Hello 👋, I use your magnet plate tips to install my plush engineers 🧑💻 on my large grid. Thx 🙏
I believe that the gyroscope fell onto your grinder and because there was so little of it left that it got grinded away
Yeah, I think you might be right
i thought you were going to make a the nugget into a barge, where you put a large platform down on the ground and pick stuff up with the nugget and drop it onto the barge part. then hook back up and continue onto the next scrap.
Chick N’ Nugget or
Chick & Nugget both sound like
Chicken nugget together so that could be cool
I would've put the thrusters on a rear extension which would've given it a more "firefly-like" look
Since the planet is dessert, why not go with a Dune theme with the nugget, and make it look more like an ornithopter, more dragonfly like?
The main reason is that I'm likely to go horribly wrong trying to get there, so I thought I'd just do my own thing :)
Build something like the Sikorsky CH-54A Tarhe. That way you have a recess area for your payload
Why not just add a connector to the top of the flatbed cab and dock your flyer there for outings. You could speed scout and return to your heavy hauler while in the field vs back and forth.
Why not just have a Piston central with mag plate on the CHICKEN NUGGET , fly over target lower Piston , way you go.
Watched and Liked 👍
Might be stupid ,as I don't play the game ,I saw some of your old videos where you get current directly as long as it's connected the block together , is this not the case here ?
