    Great job on the fence! I have to do lots of patching as well so I know how it is - it's hard to make an old fence look good.

      Thanks. What timbers do you use in Ecuador for fencing that are for resistant?

      Lot's of walking. When I start a new stretch of fence there are weeds and grass on both sides. By the time I'm done, one side of the fence flat.

    How tight should the wire be, any idea? How should it feel when you pull from the t posts? Or when I stretch it how much can it sag before I clip it to the t posts?

      The age old question. It depends on the wire, the gauge, old or new, low carbon, high tensile, etc. But the short answer is that you will know once you pop a couple of lines with the come along. The specs for new wire, 12 ga low carbon say around 800 pounds. The hard part is measuring that. When you pull old wire be more gentle. New wire take more pull. High carbon wire tightens very quickly and does not give much like low carbon wire, so once it's tight just go a couple clicks more on the come-along.
      On a 100 to 150 yard pull, loosely tie two or three t posts to keep the wire off the ground. I find it that I can put a little more torque on the wire if I support it in the middle. Even when the wire if fully pulled, it won't feel like a guitar string. Only when you clip it, will it be guitar tight as each clip on the t-post tighten the wire a bit more. Once clipped, there should be no sag in the wire from one t-post to the next. Last thing, in winter wire shrinks and in summer it expands. So if you tighten in summer like a violin string, in winter it may pop as the cold weather shrinks the wire. Likewise, if you fence in winter try to pull your wire a little tighter because in summer your fence may come loose.
      All the tightening in the world won't do you a bit of good if your corner brace assembly is weak. I have a couple of videos that go very deep into the topic. Check out the Barbed wire fencing playlist.

    So when I’m running the wire every 5 posts in just pull tight and clip it to the T post?

    • @LibertyGarden
      @LibertyGarden  2 года назад +1

      You first pull the wire tight from corner brace to corner brace. Then, eyeball the middle point and clip the wire there. Then, work your way to the braces clipping every 5 posts. If you are in very uneven terrain, try to pick the tallest and lowest points to clip.

      @@LibertyGarden okay thanks 🙏 yes it’s very uneven in a couple spots. The guide wire runs from lying on the ground to 6 feet off the ground all within 20 yards
