if you take off the barrel shroud and install that short black nut ,it will expose the barrel which is threaded , so you can incorporate a compensator. it helps

Hey Joe I'm seeing this video a year late, but it's still relevant, I just got a black model, came with 2 5 rd mags ,3 choke tubes, heavy and light gas pistons, the short shroud nut, spanner wrench, mag block, and ear plugs, in a cardboard box from Dunham's in central Michigan, priced at 699 but got it on sale for 599. Great video, good info, thanks.

Killer deal Dan! Thanks a lot for sharing your find! I wish I’d had taken some time to really study a good bit more what these things were all about and learned them inside and out before making any videos, but I really just share what I do In hopes of mentioning that one question someone is searching to find an answer for like I was whenever looking things up and couldn’t find. There’s loads of videos on things being shot, and that’s fun obviously, but I find myself watching the hillbilly who sat his phone down and poorly filmed himself speaking about his new Saint victor 3 pistol for 45 minutes as a car roams the screen and a tv blasts in the background. Sometimes those videos are the most helpful for guys like me. Lol anyways..I just so happened to be scrolling RUclips when your notification came in and wanted to hop over and thank you. Take care brother, enjoy your awesome new 12ga!!

@@wtfjoe3276 thanks again Joe, and you are right about so many videos just being shoot em up stories. Fun but not terribly informative. I was wondering what that plastic thing was, and you shared how it is a mag block. Also how to change the gas piston the manual leaves so much out.

My all black came with two 5 rd magazines. I truly believe that a lot of these “gun dealers” take some stuff out that they want and and replace it with other stuff. Like the charging handle, some have a rubber grip on them and some have been removed. Some have one mag some have two. The dealers are scalping these items I have no doubt.

Hey, Really good job showing all the accessories and the front end teardown of the VR80. Also In case anybody is looking at these models today they make some cerakoted models that also have the longer handgaurd. "Burnt bronze" and "smoke" colored ones do. The white has the short handgaurd. I bought one in "burnt bronze" cerakote. It doesn't have all of his extra accessories tho. (the carry handle, pic rail adaptors and red dot or the plastic hardshell case). It does have the small parts in a plastic box, the other gas piston , 3 chokes and wrenches, 2- 5round mags do come with it in the box. The 9 round mags are the most popular and U can cut the spring holder just above the floorplate down to allow it to hold 11rounds easily. I got a deal on 5- 9 round mags at Palmetto. Many had issues with the mags dragging on the front lip of the mags on each side on the bolt as it moves and that was causing some failures to eject, heavily extended break in time, etc. Just check your mags for wear after firing it and file that front lip on each side with a jewelers file. Some have reported burrs on the gas port holes. (If U have some, use some #320-400 grit shop roll cloth to polish the barrel and rid the burrs) Mine were fine. That $799 deal he got is pretty incredible for the deluxe model with the case and xtras, my buddy got the same deal on his. I paid $585 for my cerakoted bronze model with the long forend from Exile Armory on U tube. They shipped to my FFL. They just had the standard black VR80's on sale for $499.99 here in the midwest at Rural King and it had a 100.00 manufacturers credit. (on about 7/25/22) Hope that helps some folks. . . . I almost forgot, mine came with a inexpensive set of front and rear flip up sights that the red dot model doesn't. I picked up a wide but fairly short length Flambeau case and it just fits all 7 mags and a leather strap and the VR80 in it. (I think its made for AR's)

Yeah, when I bought mine last year, it came in a cardboard box, with two 5-round mags and a 9-round mag, and the little case of three chokes. It came with pretty good iron sights, but I took those off and put on a BSA red-dot; I put the irons on an AR-15 build. I replaced the stock/grip with a mil-spec buffer tube, Magpul CTR stock, and a Hogue rubber grip; to this, I added an 800-lumen light on a 45-degree offset. This is now my go-to gun in the middle of the night, just a step away from the bed.

Owned my VR-80 and VR-81 for nearly 2 years and just a little under 1,000 rounds each. Very little feed or ejection issues. One of the first things I did when I got them was to get rid of the lame factory stock and put on a practical 6 position adjustable stock. The BRM 20-round drum mag is also a nice upgrade to the 12ga. As far as I know, there is a drum mag made for the 20ga version

From what I've seen, the black models come with flip-up front and rear iron sights. I suppose the angled adapters are for a red-dot or another iron sight at the 1:00 position. Run the low based piston. It will be fine with the high-based stuff too. I've always run my low-based piston and shoot everything through it.

The standard black model does not come with a mag well. It does come with two 5 round mags. Everything is exactly the same, except for the optic and long handguard. The long handguard just adds unwanted weight since there in no full length picatinny rail. And I would rather pick my own optic, not one preselected. I removed my barrel shroud (useless) which allows the barrel to cool better. Added a long comp, Tac-Wrap to prevent hot gas burns venting through the handguard, AR style chubby pistol grip, LuthAR 6 position butt stoch with cheek rest, 250mW day/night laser, and a Romeo5 red dot with 3X magnifier. It's a nice squirrel gun :)

Two round mag is for hunting certain waterfowl... shotgun capacity restricted to three shells in total, so 2+1. Your package looks like it is also equipped with a 2+1 mag limiter for the 5-rd magazine. The nine round mags can be easily modded to accept ten rounds, remove the mag base (watch for the spring) and remove the spring guide (looks like a shorter mag limiter), and using a dremel or fine saw, remove the post down to just above the first molded cross bar, smooth with a stone bit with your dremel, or a fine-toothed file, re-assemble and you should easily be able to load an extra shell, giving you ten rounds.

Jim Yowell I agree. 19 round capacity is ultra handy, but if you have to give up the ability to run and gun around barricades or generally concern yourself with it getting hung up on the environment, or even the ability to rest the muzzle on a wall, vehicle , anything..that’s pretty counterproductive. I personally value a solid tactical reload technique more than one chance 19 chances at the cost of all those potential hang ups. Thanks for the input. How do you like your holosun? I discovered the solar powered ones a while back. My pal uses them religiously. I need to bite the bullet and buy a few of them for various set ups I have that need glass.

the magazines are 2-5-9-19 (drum 20ea). They are correct about spring issues and the magazine hitting the bolt. Both of which are manufacture issues. Light loads issues are common that require a break-in if you do the spring (bolt to the rear) and grind down the back ends of the OEM magazines. When seeking to replace the grip and butt, be careful on which brand you buy. Some will not work.

The difference is it does not come with the hard case nor the Vortex optic, and the barrel shroud and paint jobs are different. Hey Joe right out of the box what ammo will the VR shoot? And can you explain a little bit on the break in and what choke to use for the slug and just kind of the process of breaking in the VR?

    • @dang-khoavo4648
      @dang-khoavo4648 3 года назад +1

      Mike,
The “break-in” is just merely a period to get all the components humming together like the machine that this RIA VR80-RT (and all VR80) should be.
Rock Island I believe recommends 50 rounds (12-ga 2-3/4” with the Light Loads gas piston, 3” with the Heavy Loads), but anecdotally, some people don’t experience the common issues while many others do!
The common issues with this when brand new are either misfeeds, failure to eject spent shell, failure to feed followup shell, partial ejection of spent shell, etc.. These issues arise from a very strong (and new) recoil spring in the butt stock; and nothing that time and shooting won’t solve.
With that said, some recommend pulling the charging handle open (i.e. compressing the recoil spring) and leave it in this position for 1 month to help the spring relax (it won’t weaken the spring if you do this so don’t worry). But if you start with shooting “heavier” loads…say 1250 fps or above, I thing you could avoid most of these starting issues. Lighter loads (e.g. 1150 fps or under may not have enough power to push the recoil spring all the way back during cycling when the shotgun is still brand new…hence causing the above issues initially. Likewise, “low recoil” shells can theoretically cause the same issue because they are also “underpowered”. These problems should resolve by around 150-200 rounds through the firearm.
As for slugs, you will likely see a bunch of people giving advice to go ahead and send slugs through and there won’t be any issues and they’ll show you their videos. BUT, if you care about your firearms and safety (as we all should), I would offer the following.
The VR80 comes with 3 chokes, Full, Modified, and Cylinder. Rock Island Armory recommends only using slugs when you have the Cylinder choke installed…and this is for good reasons!!!
As you know, chokes are there to control the spread in shell shots since we are shooting multiple projectiles at once in shotguns as opposed to the single projectile through a rifled barrel of either a rifle or handgun, where the rifling helps stabilize the flight path of said projectile.
Now, there are such things as rifled slugs. These can be safely fired through any standard chokes, but I would still follow the same principles below.
Of the 3 chokes that come with the VR80, the Full choke has the TIGHTEST grouping, and therefore the most restrictive passage; followed by the Modified choke, and the Cylinder choke will give you the most open grouping (hence the largest aperture that the projectiles will pass through). So, you want to fire the slugs typically through the least restrictive aperture.
But if you accidentally fired a slug through a Full choke, would it be catastrophic? Probably not…unless you do this on a regular basis. Doing so, will cause deformation in the shotgun’s barrel, in the form of a bulging out in the area just right before the choke. With time and constant fatigue from this, your barrel could crack and/or fragment and eventually resulting in catastrophic failure potentially causing injury from the shrapnels.
I hope that answers your questions!

I did the break-in on mine and it was OK but it sure did jam a lot it’s like using Cody to watch movies you spend more time trying to search to find something to watch then you get actual entertainment it took longer to load this than actual entertainment with the VR but it’s coming along

I need a cpl of those mag plug's but haven't seen them for sale anywhere and wouldn't mind finding a cpl more spacers for the butt pad if anyone knows where they can be procured. Check out Shoot Point Blank based in OH and they carry the RIA arms and mags and some other goodies. ma dude. i dont know what happened but you got the base gun parts mixed in with the aftermarket or whoever sold it to you did. this shotgun is originaly by derya called the mk12 made in turkey. the aftermarket parts are the long rail and short shroud on your gun. The base stuff that should be included are flip up sights along with the canted sights. the nut that you showed that you use when you take your shroud off is for the base version. you should have all the parts to go back and forth and they are missing. i like the version you have more and i plan on getting the aftermarket stuff too to make it look like yours.

KNO negative. I’ve bought 3 of these packages and every one of them have identical parts as this one did. Flip ups aren’t included with this because it comes with tre vortex however the angled adapters are included in case you want to run the canted back up irons. This one was my first one of these kits so I was a little uncertain but after buying the last two over the past 5 months I now know the intent with the parts. There’s definitely lots of copies out here though which is nice for people that want one but can’t find the exact one, and like you they can just piece it together and have either the same or a better one. I noticed too that if you hit the bolt release the handle would hit your hand. But in mine I noticed if you have the bolt locked back and grab the handle and snap it back and let go the bolt would slam forward and close similar to an ak. Maybe there’s something wrong with mine idk I haven’t had time to shoot it yet just something I noticed.

    • @wtfjoe3276

Brian Gammons that’s completely normal, IF you have either a empty mag well or loaded mag in it, like all other weapons. However, now that you mention it..I feel like I’ve done that with an empty mag and got the bolt to skip the mag lock myself. That may indicate the mag follower being slightly titled, or pressed down into the mag, because the bolt catch on the side of the gun works great, but once you pull it entirely back and release, it’s all up to the mag catch in an empty mag to keep. Of course that’s a heavy buffer system and bolt carrier too, so those mags may just don’t be beefy enough to do the job every time while maintaining a reliable feed rate. I like them the way they are though. I’ll take the reliable feeding over the last round bolt lock all day.
