    It's hard to believe that these card keys are supposed to give us a sense of safety. It's also shocking these men had been regularly stealing from the rooms of Hotel guests for what appeared to be a lengthy time and hadn't been caught. I would think the first report from a hotel guest especially in such a ritzy establishment that this would have been made a priority and a very tight rain would have been put on access to these keys.

    • @jacquelinejohnie2598
      @jacquelinejohnie2598 Год назад

      Exactly! Very difficult to comprehend that nothing was done about theft from guest's rooms. Shocking! Had something been done initially to curb the ongoing theft, it could have been nipped in the bud and prevented Michaela from been murdered. My opinion is that the suspects that were released are definitely guilty seeing as the one worked security - they were all in cahoots with each other. It appears that corruption is obviously rife. How they got off scott free with the only witness (who is now deceased), boggles the mind. I truly hope justice prevails in this sad case. May she rest in peace.

    We’re the owners of the hotel ever investigated? I had an acquaintance that told us he quit his job at a luxury hotel because the owner had them steal. Then if they got caught they’d “get fired” and “disciplined.” “Blacklisted” in the industry. But as soon as those guests were gone they were back at it. He did it once and felt guilty when he heard a couple arguing over who’d misplaced their belongings, each blaming the other, and got really nervous about it so he quit. He got a lot of threats over divulging information to police even though nothing got done, so he moved to the US. I don’t remember the country he said it was but if it happened there, it could be the case in other places.

    To think there is someone out there that did this. There are probably 100s or thousands of people who've killed or did something terrible walking amongst us.

    I remember being in Mauritius and was speaking to a few locals. When they heard I was Irish they spoke about the case. They kept saying the husband did it. I was stunned. She was so beautiful and her Dad adored her as well as John. 🇮🇪

      The thing is around the time of her death, he did follow her to the room, then back to the pool then to the reception because he “lost his key”, then found her body. If it wasn’t for the staff key card being used he would be number 1 suspect and who’s to say he didn’t lift the card from cleaners trolley

    The crazy part is about certain countries that rely on tourism. You're totally right about them having to work overtime to ensure guests feel safe. I never thought about it that way but it makes sense. If that's the only thing they have to offer and people don't want to go because they don't feel safe, it hurts their country as a whole.

      that's probably a big part of the justice system corruption there. more emphasis is put on finding someone responsible than making sure the correct person is found.

    Wow, first time I’ve seen Mauritius on this channel! Thanks for covering this. It’s so awful she lost her life on that beautiful island with many beautiful people. I’m half Mauritian and I don’t think a lot of people even know where this teeny island even is 😅

    • @AthyDuGard
      @AthyDuGard 11 месяцев назад

      I'm half Mauritian, too. Currently there right now on holiday. I've never had any trouble with crime personally. But my family are always warning me and they don't allow me to even take a short walk alone at night.
      My brother did get scammed online, though. Fake accommodation scam.
      It is a beautiful place to visit. Sadly you can't avoid scum humans that commit evil acts wherever you travel to. RIP Michaela. 🙏🏽 🇲🇺

    Horrible story, as a Mauritian i remember that story, we were so sad for this young lady. Unfortunately my country is corrupt to it's core. PS: some of the image you used are not of Mauritius (at 2.20 that's not Mauritius )

    Thank you Adrian for the care and compassion while discussing this case. I still remember the shock of hearing the news of beautiful Micheala’s murder all those years ago. It shook our small community in Tyrone to the core. My heart goes out to the Harte family and John McAreavey and I really do hope that Michaela gets the justice she deserves. She was a bright light in the community and is deeply missed ❤
