We continue with the second part of Denis's ramblings as steam traction comes to an end on Southern metals with Denis being fortunate to being a fireman on the final passenger services over the Portland Branch. Following steam's demise, and unsure of his future at Weymouth, Denis along with three of his firemen mates, successfully apply for driver's positions elsewhere and all become drivers at Dorking North. Will Denis find his true vocation in life?...................
Great narrator. Brought back many memories
Excellent recounting of truly authentic life experiences on the railway. Thank you Geoff for your hard work. Being able to view the photographs, and relive the stories with your help really make my day.
Excellent memories as always Geoff thank you for sharing these.
Geoff, these are truly fascinating accounts of bygone careers, with what must have been a massive transition away from such a historically ingrained way of life. Beautifully recounted, thanks.
Lovely recollection of a time now sadly gone forever.
Again, thanks. With sadness. Ah well.
Would love to hear about his time in the police
Sadly passed away this year RIP Denis.
