- If you are due for new windshield wiper blades check out the newer "beam" style blades- amzn.to/31L4fnP The model I am installing is from Rain-X and it is their Latitude line of blades. Instead of an external metal frame that holds the rubber blade against the windshield "beam" style blades have an internal metal spring frame that works better for keeping the blade in contact with the glass on newer vehicles that have curvier windshields. I install the new wiper blade and go for a drive in the rain.

I just bought new wiper blades today. And i've never been so excited for it to rain before!
I usually gauge when I should replace my wiper blades by the language I use during driving; if I'm mentioning mothers and sons and fecal matter a lot while driving in the rain then it's time to change out the blades.
This is the most helpful video I have seen on how to do this, thank you. I was finally able to change the wipers on my car for the first time thanks to you!! I could not for the life of me figure out what to do with what connectors until I found your video. Thanks again :)

One thing I missed was any mention of the (supposed) uniqueness / benefits of the RainX brand of wiper over other beam blade brands. I thought I had read it has some RainX additive built into the rubber. How this compares with other plain rubber beam blades would be good to explore.
I just bought a pair of these blades for my Honda Element. I will have to wait for the next rainy day. I strongly recommend treating up your windshield with a rain repellant like RainX or Invisible Glass with rain repellant regardless of what type of wipers you use.
I just checked a parts store for some new blades for my car and noticed these style blades weren't more expensive at all. Definitely going to try them out. Even if they don't noticeably work better, they look a lot better for sure.

I've been using these blades since they were first introduced. Ive noticed that because of the design the blade remains out of the direct sun as the upper beam acts as an umbrella. Because of this the rubber is less prone to cracking and warping from heat and oxidation. I've gone as long as 4 years before even considering changing the blades. However, I do also live in Texas so the use of them is limited to rain and sleet. Snow and ice may reduce the wear considerably.
Also, I recommend that people wipe/clean the blades at least every season. It doesn't require any kind of cleaner, just a damp cloth or paper towel to wipe the edge of the blade. Proper care will keep the edge clean from any particulates that might cause etching in your windshield and prolong the life of the blade.
Exactly. And going one step further, I employ Pan the Organizer’s method: using a 50/50 solution of distilled water and isopropyl alcohol (70%, 91%, or even 99%-it’s your call, really) in a plastic spray bottle and a Scott Blue shop paper towel specifically for auto glass), I saturate the towel with the aforementioned solution and simply glide it back and forth along the blade’s contact edge itself multiple times, removing as much crud and road grime as possible. Not only does this make my wiper blades actually perform much better and last much longer, but it also reduces the blades’ tendency to squeak and squeal significantly. If you get a chance, I highly encourage you to check out Pan the Organizer’s channel here on RUclips, as he easily has THE BEST auto detailing advice around. Luke Wilson (Wilson’s Auto Detailing) is another good resource as well…
EDIT: Another helpful windshield wiper maintenance tactic Pan has is for a driver/vehicle over to use WD40 to lubricate his/her wiper arms. Simply take a can of WD40 (preferably with the flip-up straw nozzle) and give a quick shot of it directly to the hinge of the wiper arm, then very gently raise and lower each arm for a set of 10 repetitions, not so unlike a person doing biceps curls at the gym (LOL). This will allow the WD40 to penetrate each hinge more fully. Finally, as you’re performing these super-easy maintenance tasks, the most important thing you must always do with your wiper arms is to place a thick towel under each one, so as to protect your windshield should you accidentally bump into the wiper arms and they suddenly fall down
I bought the Rain-X Expert Fit beam blade for my Honda Element. Not complaining and no noises.

Some this style were put on my car without me being able to see what they were. It turns out that the armiture assembly sticks up above the sight line of the windshield. So two black bumps to look at while driving. Newer cars and SUV's may have a deeper well where they are less visible when not used. I appreciate this video as I figure out what to do. And liked.

Replaced the blades on our '06 Sedona mid January 2012 with Bosch evolution's. Longest lasting and best wiping blades I have ever tried. Just replaced them now with Rain-x latitude blades. We'll see how they compare!
How did they fair?
Well that Sedona has been gone for almost 2 years but looking at my service notes I replaced the blades again in 2016 with Bosch evolution’s. I recall the Rain-x were good but I believe the Bosch wipers were better.

Beam type Rain-X on Impreza windshields tends to have too much pressure on the ends and not enough in the center... so the center of the wipe has a "smear trail" of water as if a leaf was stuck underneath it.
The frame-type is far more even with the pressure across the entire blade.
I work in a tire and lube I deal with those on a regular basis unfortunately some of the newer cars only use those types so they end up spending almost 40 on wipers bout as much as an oil change .. also quick tip be careful leaving the bare wiper arm up i have seen them fall down and crack Windows always have a hand on it

I bought some of those for my 03 Accord and after the first rain I took them off and put my old ones back on. Where my windshield was flat the wiper didn't wipe in the middle and where the windshield is curved it didn't wipe the edge. The blade just wasn't flexible enough for any part of my windshield. $35 in the trash can.
I put these on my 03 Camry and they work well. They clear much better than my old wipers, however, I did notice a little streaking on the top left of the windshield. Please note the driver's side wiper is 24 inches and the passenger side is 19 inces

I notice that the beam blades often miss the bottom passenger side of the window. I prefer conventional blades. On newer Hondas, you're supposed to replace the rubber insert and reuse the plastic wiper frame. I've discovered that other wiper blades don't work as well as OEM. The only problem is that you have to drive all the way to the Honda parts department just for wipers. Nissan wipers look similar but I'm not sure if it's the same story as Honda.

I bought rain x latitude 22 inches wiper blades for my 2002 Buick Regal & installed them but out of a curiosity do these Rain X latitude wiper blades clean better than the cheaper wiper blades?
NAPA has them on sale for $12.99. Easy to install on my Toyota Camry. Just slide it in the hook and click. Consumer Reports magazine test found is the best blades and lasts at least 6 months - more than a traditional blade
Good video. Wow 85mph! The highest speed limit I know of here is 75 and thats no tolerence om the turnpike. They did talk about raising it to 80 couple years ago but they never have.

Can't you have it installed while you are not using? I mean.... you know it's not gonna rain, if you let the protective piece there, your blade will keep "health" for more time. Or am I wrong?I'm in a Tropical Country, at least here, because of high incidence of sun temperature, our wiper blades do not last too long (some times you have to change twice a year, or you use some "bad" wipers in some season, haha).
I don't know if we have this Rain-X brand over here, probably not. But we do have some quality Wiper Blade brand, made by Bosch (probably you guys do have it too).

The rubber glue in the windshield, and this damage the wiper blade =/.
If I use something to let the rubber from wiper blade away from the glass, I could improve its health.
I don't know how to speak this in english, but.... A lot of heat in a area in touch with rubber, it just "solder" the rubber into the glass (windshield). So... Yeah, I think you got it.
For reference. Wal-Mart brand blades are $4.50 each for all sizes.

No, I typed in Tridon premium complete blades and RainX is a great product, I use the Rain X liquid product on the 36 Ford coupe making it no need for the wipers.
I live in Savannah and find it works very well and last years.
What is the difference between the Latitude and and the Expert fit beam other than the mounting system which seems to be compatible? The Expert fit beam mounts the same way as the Honda Civic OEM.
Should always be careful with those U type ones in the up position while changing. If bumped they will slam down with enough force to break your windshield.

Water Repellency blades work by transferring a Rain‑X water repelling coating from the wiper squeegee to the windshield during initial use. For optimal water repellency activation, run your wiper blades on a clean, dry windshield for 2 minutes. Once activated, the water repelling action will last for months!
I'll stick with $7.40 ANCO wiper and manually apply a coat of Rain-X on my windshield. Even if i have to replace ANCO wipers every 6 months, it beats paying $18-20+ for each Rain-X Latitude wiper.
I picked these up at my local walmart for $5 each for 22” blades. Figured it was time to change my 4 year old blades as the rubber part was half falling off the originals. For $5 Canadian can’t beat it lol
You got the rainx water repellent coated ones for 5 bucks each? I bought a pair a month ago and it was like 35 dollars

I favor Bosch Icons over these latitudes. They just seem to yield better results in heavy rain than the latitudes. Bosch Icons and Rain X Washer fluid additive are the way to go

I've never been satisfied with my wiper blades. They all streak like crazy. Especially during light rain with the wipers on intermittent. I figure I've got nothing to lose at this point.
probably wiping them to fast to accumulate enough water for the wiper blade to work. or take rubbing alcohol and put it on a rag or cotton swap and wipe it. just because it eats rubber also so only swipe like 2 or 3 times and done
I'm on a year and a half on my beam style blades. Note: I am a taxi driver with AWD. I drive through everything and often.

There's left-over water at 5:00 on the passenger side because the driver-side wiper flung some water on it.

I bought the slim line blades for my car. I heard their is a prep for the window before usage! Is rain x in the rubber? Most of my use would probably be with the washer fluid to clean rather then water.

I prefer Trico "Ice" blades... they are Teflon coated to prevent mud/snow from sticking to the blade and making them dirty, and are very long lasting

I haven't watched the video to know what its about, just found it funny that I returned these same blades the night before because the part #22 that was recommended Did not come close to fitting my 05 chevy truck, and I don't believe the piece used to attach wiper to any vehicle would last long in Ohio winter weather.

Those retrofit beam wipers are quite irritating to me because of the huge bulky adapter. There's a hybrid style blade around now which is far slimmer and let obstructive to look at. My Mazda actually left the factory with this type of fitment. But you can always fit conventional blades if you choose to do so.

for me it took a year and more. I changed my just today. I live in Florida so i use my wiper a lot.
+Michel Roque I ve bought my Nissan pathfinder wipers at WipersDirect . com for like 6 bucks, and 10 months today still in shape, but probably going to change it soon just for the Snow Season, the best brand its "Brand New" Don't overpay for those miracle wipers, paying more than 10 bucks. Not worth it.
Took me around 6 months. Similar style from Goodyear is literally 5$ a blade at Costco. Never wasting my money on these again

I had to take them off my vehicle. They kind of sucked when it snowed and lifted when you traveled faster than fifty.
the reason they lifted is not the wiper but the springs in the arms are weak, you can try a stronger spring or new arm
So you're actually comparing a brand new 'beam' wiper blade with a 4 year old 'regular' wiper blade, and then say the new 'beam' does it's work better....... that's not a good comparison... you should compare only new wiper blades...But sadly looks is also a point, and to me the beam blades doesn't look as 'cool' on your car as the regular ones, but that's just a matter of taste... (I'm driving a 1996 Jeep cherokee)..

Well, I thought I'd never buy traditional metal frame wiper blades because I was afraid that the metal part would scratch the windshield if the rubber part was to break off the metal. LOL

If you have a honda vehicle keep your oem blades and just change the rubber inserts.
The beams are far better than the frame style. And if you live in an area that gets snow during winters the beams dont freeze up like the frame styles do. Much easier to clean ice/snow off of

I have been involved with wiper engineering and development since 1980... any time you replace the original design wiper blade with one that is totally different (such as replacing OE frame style blades with beam blades)... you are asking for wiping problems. Auto manufacturers spend millions to design wiper systems, and one of the critical design criteria is the proper amount of arm pressure for the style blade. Beam blades are naturally curved and require more arm pressure to lay flat than a frame style blade. SO... if your system is designed for a frame blade, and you replace with a beam blade, do not be surprised when the center area of the wiper sweep does not contact the glass or smears leaving water deposits. Wiper complaints in the industry have skyrocketed because of this simple "switch" recommended by testers who have experience with one or two model vehicles. Try them if you want, but be prepared for possible problems. Bottom line, replace the blades with the same style that engineers designed for your vehicle and you will minimize performance problems...
but isn't your glass curved so shouldn't it find it better to get your window better and normally a wiper blade or a squeegee require little force.

Looks like it's another case of deceptive marketing. I bought some of these bar type blades for my wife's Honda, it's doing exactly what you described, missed spots and smears, she hates them. In my experience, if there's a problem with improper contact pressure, the missing area NEVER appears in the middle, but at the sides. The solution is to simply run a wiper that's 1 inch shorter on the affected wiper.
For instance, my 1990s Pajero had 19 inch conventional wipers on both sides. The 19 inch new beam style wipers wiped perfectly EXCEPT at the extreme outside edges of the windscreen. A simple change to 18 inch versions of the new beam style silicone wipers completely solved the problem, with no significant change in effective wiped area, while enjoying the aerodynamic benefits of wipers designed NOT to lift off the windscreen at high speeds.
From what I saw you left the old blade on the passenger side. Of course it will smear a little. The beam blades are nice blades but hardly worth the price difference. The rubber dry rots at the same rate and just makes the maintenance more expensive.In a region like Washington state where it rains most of the year I can see using these blades, but most other areas, the end just doesn't justify the means.

Unless that Rainx really gets placed onto the windshield (like the bottled liquid) I'd never pay that much for blades.
The actual blades have a rainx coating on them and they are $15.99 a blade at walmart Rain-X latitude water pellency blades
I think I care more about how long they last, then how well they clean. I mean the higher price could actually save you money in the long run right.
I think their replacement recommendation schedule is the same as traditional wipers- so the rubber still hardens in the sun and doesn't work as well after a few seasons.
i know this is a old comment but if you still read this the rain x latitude wiper last me 1 year. The reguler wiper last me 3-4 month.
I've reverted to traditional spring style. I didn't like the mechanism attaching blade to hooked arm. I'd rather look at a smear for a while than look at a broken, unusable wiper.
I just use regular rain x on my windshield. The wipers don't last that long.
I like Toyota wipers, just buy from the dealership (will fit any car really), the quality is good. I've been using them for at least 2 years and you need them pretty much every day in the UK...

Any car with the same fitment bracket and size. They won't fit cars that come with OEM beam wipers.
Well of course, get your old wiper with you and ask for the same if they haven't got it, then you're unlucky one, but I'm talking about the standard old fashioned wipers -)

"more smeared" Why didn't you give the windshield a good cleaning before putting the new blades on? That way you remove all kinds of sap, bug remnants, oil, w.h.y. and not introduce them to your new blades.
Just buy the silicone rubber inserts on Amazon for $4.
OOPS! You left out one of the MOST IMPORTANT features---the Latitude blades also apply a Rain-X coating automatically onto the windshield. See the outside of the package or watch one of the Rain-X videos like: ruclips.net/video/cnk_5hOTF-w/видео.html. The yellow cover keeps the coating product from wiping off the blade. Per the instructions, after installing the blades on a clean and dry windshield, remove the yellow cover and run the blades dry on the dry windshield at medium speed for 2-3 minutes to activate the water repellant product. Then BRIEFLY squirt while continuing to wipe and you're done.
You are referring to the rain-x latitude 2-n-1 wiper blades. Those are the blades that put the coating onto the windshield. The product he reviewed are the normal rain-x latitude wiper blades with no windshield coating.

Worst wipers I've ever had, and they cost the most I've ever paid. Packaged like a premium product, priced like a premium product, but streaked out of the package on a properly cleaned wind screen. Not a premium product.

I bought my first set of Rain-X blades several years ago, and I will not buy anything else... Every vehicle that I buy I switch out to the Rain-X blades. I see a visible difference, and greater longevity. .... The extra price is very much worth it. Its a safety issue to me, and there isn't a premium on safety..... vehicles.... ? Here's my list ....1987 Ford F-250, 2001 Ford F-150, 2004 Ford F-350, 2011 Ford Ranger, 1989 Acura Legend coupe, and 2013 Mercedes SLK350..... Quite a list of Ford pickups in there, but the cars get them too.

Great product but customer service sucks. Wrote three months ago asking about warranty period, no answer, again one month ago, no answer. Website says will reply in 24 - 48 hours. The rubber part should not fly off in the middle of a rain storm causing a safety hazzard just two months after purchase. Of course I dont have the wiper any longer as it has been three months but just a simple question never answered !!
Those wipers were expensive and garbage. My mom and I decided to get rid of ours early for PIAA SiTech blades.

I decided to buy these expensive wipers thinking they must be better quality since the price is higher. Wrong!!!
They are so curved, that I don't get coverage in the middle of my windshield. I mean, windshields are slightly curved, so I see the point in having wipers also being curved, in fact, it's good to have them more curved than the windshield since the point of pressure is in the center of the blade. These Rain X Latitude 2 in 1 blades are so stiff in the bow-shape that they just don't wipe the middle portion clean. There is still water smears right at my line of vision!
They're going in the trash can now!
#1 - Latitude wipers are MORE than just a beam type blade. #2 - If installed properly, which you did not do, they allow the rain to flow off the windshield without even running the wipers. In HEAVY rain, you have to run the wipers but between swipes you can literally see more clearly than with ordinary blades. #3 - Cost. The cost of these blades is higher than ordinary blades because of their ability to basically add a coat of rain-x on your windshield. Regular beam type blades, with no special features, are priced similarly to the older style wiper blades.
Overall review of this review - It show how to install on the easiest type of wiper mount... no big deal. It shows how a new blade is better than an old blade (doesn't really matter if it's a beam or old style wiper). It shows the Latitude wiper, but doesn't talk about how to properly install it (which includes running it first without water on a dry, clean windshield, then a little water or washer fluid to start the process of spreading the coat of rain-x on the windshield, so you never get to see how the specific wiper works because it wasn't installed properly.
This is the first review I've seen of yours. I have to say if all your reviews are half-assed like this one, they aren't worth watching. I bought this particular model of wiper blade, and I love it and fully recommend it. There are directions to tell you ALL the steps you need to take to get your money's worth from this blade. Follow them, and you'll be pleasantly surprised and happy about the value of the blades. Just my opinion. Everyone has one.
