What I was kinda hoping would happen at the end: Upon dumping the contents of the plastic bag into the collection, they then refill the same bag from a nearby pile of "ready" compost to take home, sort of like a trade-off. That would be a cool system. We have City pickup, 3 bins to the curb: 1) garbage, 2) recycle 3) compost, food scraps and such. How cool would it be if we could get even a portion of a bin in return of ready compost!? Give, and take.
Any other New Yorkers been doing the drop off option and now feel stuck? What can we do with our scraps during this pandemic? I’m running out of room in my freezer!
It is so difficult to obtain detailed information on composting properly. I have so many questions. Most people cook their vegetables, and they use oil. Does that mean these items cannot be composted at home or at the Farmersarket composting sites? She mentioned not placing citrus in worn bins. Perhaps cooked, oily vegetables can't be used in worm bins. Why can't cooked foods be used? It's super easy but we haven't been given much information. Thank you.
Sadly you can't bring compost to greenmarkets at this time because of the pandemic. Also when I could I always put them in a paper bag inside one of the orange bags they give away. The bag can compost too (no plastic bag to throw away). I'm not quite ready to do a worm bin yet.
love this! I checked the map but there is nothing by me at all - sad!!! My parents get their compost picked up by the county. Wish we had the same where I'm at in NYC!
That is so interesting! I never knew you could have your compost picked up, such a cool idea though. If there is no place around where you live maybe when you visit an area that does you could bring your compost with you! Love your channel and subscribed, let's keep in touch.
It reduces food waste being sent to the landfill, reduces methane (a huge greenhouse gas contributor) which is made when the organics are stuck fermenting among plastic in a landfill, and creates a healthy, nutrient-rich fertilizer for you to use or give away. I'm making a vermicompost series on my channel that comes out next week if you're interested in learning more! 😊
composting at home is not easy unless you enough space for that.. a 5 gallon can be filled easily within a week if your diet is compose mostly of fruit and vegetable..
I hate handing over dirty leftovers of the kitchen to Municipal waste collectors. But I find that the suggestions given are not useful. At most, people would try a method where they can compost all wet organic waste, including meat, eggshell, milk products. I bet not even 10% of people who have appreciated the video have actually started this and less than 1% are continuing. I have a better and truly low cost, hassle-free method of disposing of kitchen waste ( No requirement of Power, Worms, costly inputs, any type of machine and more than that no leachate -no bad smell). Is anyone ready to ask me?

I am encouraging composting in my Chicago neighborhood!🌱💚
I’m moving to Chicago in August and came to the visit to learn how to do it in my apartment ❤️❤️
victoria greenlee yay! Welcome! What part of town?!
Joi 2theworld Logan Square :)
Just moved to Logan square last month and searched for this video to start composting as well!
Doing container gardening using a regular rectangular bin. We throw in kitchen food scraps an we are happy with the results.

Have you tried the app ShareWaste? It connects you with others in your area who are looking for compost 😊
Worms love shredded paper.
Adding paper can help balance out the emissions of the methane gases as the scraps break down.

Quick and useful video :) Thank you
Thank you! This was a great video. I'd love more videos like this!

I'm confused so does she have worms in a small container to compost her scraps???
Yes but I would hope she’s just using that tiny container for demonstration purposes. That would barely fit the scraps from a single meal I cook.
What about fruit and vegetable that’s gone bad like moldy would you be able to use that for composting?
Yes, that's totally fine. It actually brakes down faster😊
Great tips about composting. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching!
aaaaand it's an ad.
Still some good info for beginners though ^.^
Thanks! Great idea to start.
Is there anything similar in NC?
Do you have a Whole Foods near you? I've seen compost bins there, near the other trash & recycle bins
There are no drop off locations in Philadelphia. :(
Have you heard of ShareWaste? It's an app/website that connects you with others in your area looking for compost!
4:07 Who else notice there is Corona in the map 😂😂😂
me
I heard you can feed them raw egg shells?
yes you can!
Don't use plastic....
great idea, but some of your info is off.
Wait why do I want to feed worms? I’m new to this and just trying to learn more
the worms turn the food scraps into compost or useful material when they eat and poop it out

amazing! just subbed to you!
Thank you for subscribing! Welcome to Pildora!
So it won’t give off methane at home ?
The worms go through the organics faster than the organics can decompose and create methane! 😊
@@Leanntelope thanks it’s something I wanna get into ... lean....n..telope ... hmm what does it mean ?
@@Carpenters_Canvas i've been reading it as leah antelope. not sure if that's how it's supposed to be

Can I do it without the involvement of worms
I wanted to see how to compost at home not how to gather items and take it somewhere to be composted... so stupid
Worms? I think I'll just put the leftover inside the dirt around the tree.
what if worms don't want to be imprisoned in your garbage bin and prefer live their lives outside in nature?
I doubt they could tell the difference.
@@clairet5636 between a garden and a plastic bin?
They aren’t smart enough to know the difference
I have mine in a bin in the garden. It has lots of holes in the bottom, so the worms could go away, but they stay where the food is😁
This is pointless if you cant add the other foods
I have scoleciphobia.......
Total waste of time watching this video with misleading title
Nice video, but PLEASE DO NOT encourage to use amazon!!! come on!!!!!!!!
that's what happens when you have sustainability as a Business. kills me every time.
they will also eat their own poop up to 2 or 3 times
