- In this tutorial, I'm going to teach you how to make a super cheap and easy wasteboard for your cnc router. Next, well install a set of scrap wood guides, and finally well go over a few methods for securing your workpiece, including 2 different tape methods, and scrap wood clamps.

Actually I am getting ready to run my first flag for my dad. I bought a shapeoko3 to make little signs for my fence company. My mom asked for a sign for her office door. Couldn't say no so I watched you and couple other to find a flag design to disgn it and then tile it to run on my machine. Paint is a little tacky still (kinda good cuase I am hesitant to run). Your videos have helped me alot. I run a cnc punch for a manufacturer but you have helped become comfortable with my machine so I thank you.

I’m crying!! I can NOT get the spoilboard right. Countless failed attempts and I have no idea what I’m doing wrong. I’m so sick of rpm, ipm, Chip load, post processor, zeroing repeatedly. Seriously about to throw away this Onefinity cnc that I wanted so bad and waited forever for. I’m sure it’s not the machine, but operator error. I’ve watched ever RUclips video and read every forum. I’ve never felt so dumb.

Nice video. What do I need to do if I am making larger 32-33 inch projects? I am going to try your method.
The max travel these have is 32x32, but the wasteboard would have to overhang in the front.
Chris great video i am ready to do a nes waste board and squaring rails. Good tip on making sure the squaring piecers ar square ti the router..
Did you just put the bit in and set a depth and start the router an jog it manually.? And that was an 1/8" bit right. Also I see that you have one of the rear dust port dust shoes I have one also and am having trouble attaching the hose to something solid on the back side to keep the hose in place. Could you share ho you hold your in place . Thanks Jeff
Thanks. Yea it’s an 1/8” bit. I just got it close by eye and touched off on the top of the guide. Then I just lowered it and jogged it manually.
I just run it up the back and use a hose clamp to secure it to the top z axis pulley cover.

That was the first thing I did when I got mine. What a mistake that was.
I am watching this video again .Chris looks like you have a piece of mdf that has tee nuts in it that the new board you just installed over it . is the one with the tee nuts in it the original bottom for the machine or a second piece of mdf Jeff
That’s in the original wasteboard. I made the mistake of installing those when I first got the machine, and never used a single one.
@@ChrisPowellFSD Does the new spoil board come up to the top of the front and back rails so you can do tiling if you have a project that calls it. just wondering I make custom cabinets for a remodeler
that are longer than the cutting area on the xxl So I use the tiling tool path in VCarve Pro.
@@resorter66 I just put them in the machinable area so the whole surface can be surfaced. Otherwise you wouldn’t be able to tile a project.

It’s just a little within the max size. You don’t have to come in a full inch, you just need to make sure you take the radius of the bit into consideration.

Just an extra step that I have found it very effective is to use diluted varnish/sealer for the base board especially as The MDF or Chip Board is very sensitive to Humidity. Honestly it makes a difference also keeps board looking nice and easy to clean. I actually use 2 pack automotive clear, seal edges first and back of the board, flip it over mount and install insert nuts ect, Do a suface cut then seal top and edges again give a light sand and one full coat of clear at 10%. All just brushed on and throw brush away after. I live in Melbourne Australia so our humidity changes a lot in a day.
