I think something nice about trains is that they take longer and are often not cheaper but you take it for the view and for the added comfort (most of the time they seem to be way more comfy than a plane as a big and tall person) plus the added the perk of no TSA and bag check to go through which adds a lot of stress and at least for over planners like myself add easily 2-3 hours to a flight. If I go back to Orlando I really want to take this.

She also came up to me first and said “you’ll get a better photo from down there” and I said “thank you” because I thought it was unsolicited advice. So I kept taking a photo. @@enjoystraveling These type of people are selfish, and only think about themselves. They forget that people lacks cars, can't drive, or have justified fears of driving. This is the problem with transportation in America. It's not the "oh transit is not fast!" It's the lack of transit that is the problem. There is no other option but driving.
Brightline should have never started to be "high speed" to begin with. It should have been a commuter service and have stops all along the way. Every city between Orlando and West Palm Beach. All of this state needs to be connect, not just select places. Brevard County that s home to NASA, "The best zoo in Florida" (A lot of people tell me Breavrd Zoo is the best Florida zoo) Port Canaveral, the biggest ship port in the world, and adding a station here is apparently "Not worth it"
Breavrd also lacks a good public transportation, the busses are crap, the drivers are garbage, the bus schedules run off oif a 1 minute time window. ALL THE BUSSES. Meaning if one bus is late, it causes an entire chain reaction with the entire bus system. The buses also do not leave the county. It doesn't cross into other countys like the neighboring Orange County or anything. Back to what I said before: No alternatives. You lack a car, you have to suck up whatever BS a city throws at you.
People like @MagicalHijx are too privileged.

It's not just the day before departure that the Smart fare (economy) changes. I looked at Oct. 22 several days ago & some one way fares from Orlando to West Palm were $134.00, $159.00, & one train was $184.00 (again, that's economy). In Premium, checked bags are free but you have to pay $25.00 per checked bag in Smart class. Not too many families of 4 will be using the service if costs continue to be that high.

    • @tpajay
      @tpajay 5 месяцев назад

True about the small carry-ons. Their website gives the dimensions of luggage that needs to be checked. You are also correct about the many sales Brightline is doing(as a user of Brightline, they send me several emails throughout the week), including your stated 1 adult fare & 1 free child. The fares have really come down in recent weeks too. The 3 times I've taken Brightline between Orlando & West Palm in Premium, I paid $149, $189., & $229. one way & Smart (economy) fares started at $79. Now, you can travel Smart for as little as $29.50 & Premium for $99. The trains I took were not that full with the higher fares. As one that finds them convenient, I wish them success. However, Brightline isn't going to slash fares & do a lot of promotions to entice ridership if they can fill the trains with the higher fares (especially during high season). They have a big initial expense of new track, trainsets, etc. It will be interesting if they can sustain 16 daily roundtrips in the long run. I like using them because I can fly into the much busier MCO with nonstop flights & take the train to West Palm. @@enjoystraveling

I wonder if they're trying to recoup construction costs by charging such a high rate. Where I live we had toll roads built with private bond money. When the toll roads opened they were considered pretty pricey for the area (I'm from NYC so I thought they were quite low/reasonable, hah!) but, now that the bonds have been repaid, they actually lowered the cost of using the toll roads to encourage more people to take advantage of them.
A bit of an "If you build it, they will come" mentality. The flights are cheap because we've already got the infrastructure to allow small airlines to operate at low costs without having to do the upkeep to the infrastructure of airports/tarmac/roads/terminals. But if this is an all-in-one company that built the train lines, stations, routes and now owns and operates the trains privately, then that's a huge investment and the prices (unfortunately) make sense. I just hope that once they've recouped their investment, and there is more existing infrastructure, the cost goes down as demand rises. Only time will tell, but fingers crossed!

@@MagicalHijinx I think you may not know this since you were so surprised, but this inconsistent/nonsensical pricing happens in flights too. You can often get a cheaper flight if you get a connecting flight with a halfway stop to the airport you want, instead of going direct, even if technically you pay for way more distance. Some people actually do this, they know certain connections are discounted by airlines due to competition from other more convenient direct flights; sometimes to the point that the two legs connected are cheaper than either of the flight legs separately (!), so they take the connecting flight but get off at the first leg. I think the train is just a bit more obvious about trying to adapt to demand, especially because I hear it's popular so prices tend to go up. I bet the distance is not even the main factor, if there is a certain stop where people take more train trips and pay more for them, they will match that even if a prior stop takes more distance to get there. Orlando trains are not as many as the other trains, and they have way more people searching them than seats available so they try to find the price that gets a reasonable capacity filled up and gets them as much money as they reasonably can. Planes do this all the time, but we've just accepted it and comparing distances is often not as obvious since there aren't as many airports one can pick and choose from as train stations, which like you said are just 20mins from eachother.

Brightline is fooling people in Florida, & must make their investors money. The bigger problem with brightline is its slow, due to partial shared track, but it's slow overall, in comparison with modern inter-city connecting rail networks like the ones all over Asia, & Europe that go 180mph & more making it another defeat, & an underdesired option, that forces us to use cars again or fly due to the time & cost savings. Brightline would have benefitted slightly more if the track was a dedicated right of way, & faster like TGV or shinkansen speeds along the whole rail network, because it would increase travel, & tourists would use it, because anyone could be in Disney, take a trip to Miami for the day, & be back in Orlando area that same evening within

There is absolutely nothing mysterious or sinister about the pricing differentials. The airlines have been doing this for decades. This is something that I would expect an experienced traveler to know.
I live in Los Angeles. Most days, I can fly to NYC, cheaper than to Fargo or Indy or Nashville. At least a dozen airlines can take me to New York, whereas only a couple go to the smaller markets. The system has much more capacity for the NY route, so supply/demand dictates a cheaper fare.
And yes, even on Amtrak, your fare could vary according to the time of day or which day of the week. And how far in advance you buy.
Yes, your flying time from MIA to MCO will be less. But this is a silly argument, all around; for an airline, you can't just show up 10 mins before departure and step on to a plane. This train has no long security lines, and you don't have to remove your shoes. You won't have to check your bag, or pay $30 for it. Even for coach passengers, no airport terminal has such a nice waiting area.
Me, I rode the premium class from Miami to Orlando a couple of weeks ago. I booked my trip a week out, and paid the regular fare. I wasn't chained to my seat; I could walk around all I wanted. I chose the train because it's an entirely different experience from planes or cars. Unlike a plane, I had plenty of room to spread out my workspace and get a lot of work done. (Even the Smart class had this option.)
I loved (almost) every minute of this trip. I was disappointed in the inexperienced and poorly trained crew (almost inevitable for such a new operation), but at least they were friendly and honored my requests. I plan to return a year from now; and when I do, I will expect the system to have these small issues smoothed out.
As for you getting escorted out? Again, not unreasonable. They need to keep the traffic moving. You could have called ahead, and they would offer you all cooperation. I know because I did just that.
You prefer Uber? Or an airline? Clearly, you have the power to make a different choice next time. But from where I sit, it seems silly to complain.

Agreed. The approach of the hijinx lady in this video is unfortunate. Left me thinking:
How much should a ride with this experience from Orlando to MIA be priced? Did you attempt to discover why the fluctuation in pricing? Can you provide viewers an illustration showing the price volatility over a longer period of time and compare it to other options such as Uber surge pricing?
From what I understand about Brightline's "too long to drive, too short to fly" focus, they aren't targeting customers like you (hijinx lady). Possibly, they'll fail. Possibly, it'll make sense to enough consumers to warrant continued growth. Bottom line: Consumers win. Brightline's offering does not reduce driving, ridesharing or flying. If anything, it'll hopefully take more cars off the road, keep rideshare fares comparatively lower as you've observed, and relieve the volume of traffic at MCO.
I'm looking forward to my first Brightline experience tomorrow (Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale) for 2 nights. I'd much rather pay the fare than drive -- keep me energized going and returning. Flying would be my 2nd choice but that has become a dreadful experience, especially out of MCO. I love seeing MCO's growth but the lines and congestion at the gates take away from the convenience.
Hopefully, the pricing finds a place that makes more sense for more people. If not, hopefully it remains an option and while keeping its high class standard.

If you can't afford $79 to $125 one way between Miami and Orlando then this isn't for you. There are alternatives for 'budget minded' travelers like Spirit Airlines (always on tiktok showing fights among the passengers, cancelling flights, etc.), Greyhound bus lines, Flixbus, etc. By the way you knew what those prices were when you booked your ticket. So why ride it in the first place? Every other reviewer lets you know what they paid for their ticket at the beginning of their review. You told us ticket price at the end. Was it because they asked you to leave the platform that you decided to rip them a new one on ticket prices?

1:20 I tell you my price and all the prices. And I spoke ALL about prices before them asking me to leave. So your entire comment is inaccurate and classist.

Ok. I reviewed the video, and you did mention price at the start of the video. So I apologize for saying you didn't mention price until the end of the video. But once again, why would you, knowing that the tickets were 'over priced' buy one anyway? You no doubt had done your homework and compared the other travel options. And it was clear that those other options were much better choices in your opinion before you purchased your ticket. Why buy the ticket? 😕. But to your credit, you did a great job in editing the video, and I look forward to more of your videos.

Such a weird comment. Have u ever left the country ? A round trip ticket on actual high speed rail in italy would cost you around $30 - $40. And its much nicer than our amtrak trains which cost 100’s of $. Public transportation needs to be affordable and efficient in order to be effective otherwise theres no point. It’s supposed to serve the public, not just the wealthy.

@colinbauer1538 This is not 'public' transportation. It's privately owned and operated. It happens to be open to the general public. They could if they desire price their tickets such that only the privileged few can afford to ride it. The Italian railway you refer to is subsidized by the Italian government, just like Tri-rail rail in Miami and Amtrak.
