I used to listen to jackalope all the time, such a great voice.
I have a friend that plays the Freddy version of this song a lot & it drives me crazy! I like the lyrics but thats as far as it goes.
Today, I explored this song by many different singers, including one who can't properly pronounce the lyrics & one that I'm not sure about the gender of, then I FOUND THIS!!! THANK YOU!!! YOU have helped me to find a version I can truly enjoy! Your voice is pretty & I like the fact that you chose only one acoustic guitar & nothing else. I would really like to hear a professional recording of this with just your voice & that guitar!

Nice! Good to see a young musician mining the 70s for them lesser known hits. Back in the 70s mom and dad took us with them to the VFW and Freddie was always playing on the jukebox
Try the 50’s. Good old Freddy covered his own song in 1975. He originally recorded it in 1959.

Very good Katie 8 years later. Don't forget Freddie wrote this in 1958 or 59. Of course he does it with much less effort.(You have a bigger range but of course there was only one Freddie Fender....and one Katie!!) Plus having Flaco Jiminez(forget Doug and Augie) doesn't hurt. You will note the chords are very similar to Rose's song Blue Eyes Cryin In The Rain which was Willies first #1 hit he performed.
