Kate lives in Pennistone Barnsley, I took my ex and our daughter to the Halifax gig last night 14.09.12 and it was a pleasure to be there. There is no comparison with any other artist, she is just an incredibly down to earth yorkshire girl who has the gift of making songs in her own way with passion and pride and reworking old songs in a very individual way. Her next album has a track featuring Paul Weller, how cool is that.

She just plain nailed the emotion of this lyric. I wonder what Dean Martin would have thought of this performance? The folksy sound lends itself to the "dreamy longing" of the lyric. The drone adds the sadness....the bright strings....hope. The sweetness of her voice,,,,,vulnerable. Brilliant!

I like every single version of this song that I've ever heard. There are many versions and it's not often I can say i like all versions of one single song. This one is great. In my humble opinion.

It's qite humbling to listen to someone so talented from someone not only from your own town but your own village... Kate is not only so talented that she makes the village of Cawthorne so proud, I speak as one who has moved from her home village to live in France but export and promote Kates music to the masses. My dad bough this song back in the 50's on a 78 by Jo Stafford, I liked it then and still do. Jo's version was Jazzier as was the fashion at the time. I love Kate's version one of her best.
The film is called Heartland and features a solid British cast. Michael Sheen in the lead role with some lovely performances from people such as Ruth Jones, Mark Addy, Celia Imrie and Mark Strong. And of course it features the wonderful music of Kate Rusby who also appears in the film singing in Mark Addy's pub. It's a really sweet little British film. Enjoy.

On the strength of this video and a couple of others I went to see Kate play in Sheffield last night and was well impressed. She has a shedload of backing musicians but her singing comes through clearly and it's right what they say about her: she draws the audience in and is so natural in the spotlight you feel as if you're in her front room having a chat. I imagine she's the modern equivalent of someone like Gracie Fields.
