-The day after our trips to Mattamuskeet and Pungo Lake, we stopped at Alligator River Wildlife Refuge before heading to Pea Island Wildlife Refuge. Saw a Great Blue Heron and a big flock of Tundra Swan.
-After visiting Pea Island, we headed back to Alligator River, saw the swans again, a big bear crossing a closed road, and a Red Wolf!
-The next day, we came back to the refuge. Saw the swans, another sighting of red wolf, and a big bear relaxing in the field
-On our final morning, we got back to the refuge. The flock of swans were still in the same area, and had another wolf sighting! Great trip to the OBX!

I don't know the difference, but are you sure that's a red wolf? I understand there are very few without tracking collars.

Yeah that's a Red Wolf. Around the area were signs saying to watch out for endangered animals. Also, weeks after we visited, the refuge closed some of the roads in this area to protect the wolves.
